I think he was quoting Genady when he asked about the train of ships.

I'm only going on what Einstein said: "Space-time does not claim existence in its own right, but only as a structural quality of the [gravitational] field". Not to be rude, but you should look up the definition of "inevitable".
-
Well damn. That's what I get for jumping to conclusions. 🤣
-
"Spacetime fabric" is not a physical thing. We are. My wife and I are married. We exist as a team. Does that mean our partnership was inevitable?
-
I can't comprehend your thinking on this one. Are you talking about God, Mod, or your mother?
-
Damn. My colleagues and I have been found out... Unfortunately, much like with god, finding evidence that a conspiracy is NOT true is often a tall order. While I have no evidence that @TheVat's conspiracy is false, I still feel pretty comfortable dismissing it. I was particularly amused/horrified by Canada's development of a Gaydar machine. 😁

Gravitational waves inside the Earth(or similar object)
zapatos replied to geordief's topic in Relativity
Is there some threshold above which gravitational waves will be created? Or do small objects, say a couple of asteroids colliding, create gravitational waves that are just too minuscule to measure? -

Thanks for the additional detail!!

Papua New Guinea has the highest rural population in the world (86%). I suspect that makes it difficult to surveil the population.

The US has 51 constitutions, 51 sets of laws, and their 51 corresponding judicial systems. One for each of the 50 states plus one for the entire country (the Federal system). Violations of state laws are tried in state courts with the state supreme court having the final say. Violations of federal laws are tried in federal courts with the US Supreme Court having the final say. Cases that start in State courts only move to Federal courts when there is a question of whether or not the state law in question is in violation of the US constitution. There may be some specifics I missed in this summary and am happy to be corrected if someone else knows better. Washington D.C. is a special case but I'm not clear on how that works.

Life is an test where someone gets easy question and someone gets hard question but only those pass who prepared well for test. it is not necessary easy one will pass and hard one will fail but those who give up on little possibility of success will fail

If I were down to my last cup of coffee as I was starving on the side of the road and some stranger stopped by to give me some pithy unsolicited advice, I think I'd go ahead and pour the coffee on them. -
I'd start with a thorough understanding of the person in question.

Depending on what is meant by "...isn't going to work...", it will also work for those who don't want to recover. If the goal is to get a roof over the head of an addict and keep them off the main thoroughfare, then having them in a tiny home may work just fine.
-
I agree. I'm surprised to learn that anyone has even done a study showing that giving a tiny house to an addict won't work.

What is the political gain you see here? Is it to the Democratic party because Trump was in office during the outbreak? Is it to the US because America benefits some how if China is responsible? Or is it to the FBI in some way?

Restaurant food (split from Heat Regulation - Obesity)
zapatos replied to Michael McMahon's topic in The Lounge
@CharonYI didn't mean to suggest I can put together every dish made by every restaurant in town. What I am saying is that with curiosity, a little effort, and a bit of talent you can make authentic tasting dishes from a multitude of cultures at home. Our tamale making was taught to us by a Mexican girlfriend of a nephew, and our pot sticker making was taught to us by a Chinese friend who had a party where everyone was encouraged to sit around a table and make them themselves. I think people are often limited by fear of the unknown, whether it is fixing a fan, building a coffee table, or cooking Thai. But doing a little research and finding a Youtube video or two can go a long way. -

And I'm just saying you don't have to go to a restaurant to do so. Restaurants don't have exclusive rights to the ingredients and recipes that go into their cultural foods. Try cooking something new at home once in a while. It's not magic. -
Restaurant food (split from Heat Regulation - Obesity)

I really am spoiled when it comes to meal time. My wife searches out and tries new and different recipes on a weekly basis, and is comfortable making up recipes herself. She also insists on 'getting it right'. A year or two ago she decided her caramel-pecan sticky rolls could be improved. She made them probably twice a week for about two months till she got the dough/caramel/etc. just right. Of course I spent the two months after that getting my pants to again fit just right... 😁 -

I have the exact opposite view. My wife likes to cook and is very good at it. I just told her the other night that 'if you can cook well, there is no reason to go to a restaurant for good food.' Other than at high end restaurants, my wife normally out-cooks restaurant 'chefs'. Not everyone likes to cook and is good at it (like me), so if I had to cook for myself all the time the quality of my meals would go down quite a bit and I'd be looking more fondly at restaurants. Interestingly I now find that restaurant food has lost almost all appeal to me. -
Advertising Teams and Contests
zapatos replied to Trurl's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
I may be mistaken but this doesn't feel like a 'capture the flag' sort of crowd. You can post most anything in the lounge so you could post a contest there and see if you get any traction. If you violate any rules I'm sure the mods will let you know. -
Just curious, but was there a characteristic common among friends that lined up with their thoughts on nature/nurture? For example, religion, politics, education, etc.?

My understanding is that missile aboard aircraft carriers aren't armed until a mission is assigned and the missiles are about to be attached to the jets. I cannot imagine armed, fueled rockets being transported by train in open cars. That picture seems like some kind of joke.
