And that is why I suggested your level of english may not allow you to communicate successfully on this site.

Why does an electric car needs so many more chips than an IC car?
zapatos replied to TheVat's topic in Engineering
Yes, I know. But you said "The people who buy new cars have no incentive to favour cars without the built-in redundancy." Can you explain what you meant by that? You make it sound like built-in redundancy is somehow a bad thing. On the one hand it appears you don't like built-in redundancy, but then you follow that up by saying entire cars have to be scrapped due to a simple failure. Wouldn't built-in redundancy eliminate or reduce the need to scrap entire cars due to a simple failure? I don't believe it. I mean, a lot of parts on a car ARE designed to wear out (brake pads for instance), but I don't believe manufacturers are purposely making crappy cars so you'll buy more of them. There is a reason people quit buying so many American cars and started buying Japanese car in the '70s and '80s. It was because American cars were crappy and Japanese cars were good. What kind of dope is going to tell their engineers that next year's goal is a 10% reduction in reliability? And what kind of dope is going to buy the same crappy car they just had to junk because 'simple rubber seals' fail? Over the years, automotive reliability has INCREASED. Your claim doesn't pass the smell test. -
Spin off concerning reliability and safety of electric vehicles.

I'm curious how you know that. Do you have a citation? -

Yes, and as I said, you can't replace it once your personal supply is depleted. -
Which part of the following did you not understand? I'll try to rephrase the questions. "I can't tell what you are saying. Can you please say it a different way?" What does the term "O-O" mean? I don't know how to respond to your question because I do not know what you are talking about.

It is a common problem in hurricane prone errors to be unable to use home generators that run on gasoline when the electricity is out. This is due to the fact that gasoline is pumped out of gas stations using electricity. If the electric supply goes out over a wide area, it doesn't matter if your vehicles run on gasoline or electricity. You won't be able to replace either once your personal supply is depleted. -
I'm afraid your English skills may not be sufficient to communicate on this site.

It seems unlikely that making bad products on purpose is a sustainable business model. And why would they? Built-in redundancy is a favored engineering concept for safe and efficient products when the cost of failure is high. -
Is "G-d" a god? Which god are we talking about here? Is this from a particular Christian sect? I've never seen any reference to a god named "G-d" so would like some clarification.

I believe the answer is that no one knows for sure. https://www.insidehook.com/article/vehicles/electric-cars-more-likely-catch-fire -

LOL! I also got on his shit list for asking him to support his claims. I think there are enough of us now to form a club. 😆 -
Interesting. CNN reported today that the Omicron variant is prompting travel restriction across the world. Since that is fake news, are you saying there are NO travel restrictions due to omicron?

I have perhaps 20 very large trees in my yard, mostly oak and maple. That yields a LOT of leaves each year. I pick them up with the lawnmower and deposit them in the garden, on planting beds, around landscaping, etc. The maple leaves tend to pulverize while the oak leaves just seem to be cut down to size. This year all of my leaves will make it to these locations and I will not have any left over to put on my compost pile. They are an excellent cover to keep down weeds, provide a lot of organic material to the soil, and also provide plenty of nutrients. All for nearly free. Because the leaves have been cut up they don't fly around unless put on a high spot that has nothing growing in it to catch the leaves. By the next year the leaves are all gone and I get to start over with fresh leaves. In past years I have put leaves on the driveway and run over them multiple times with the lawnmower until the were sufficiently broken down. If they didn't think I was nuts I'd probably go collect leaves and pine needles from my neighbors. On a side note, when I want to create a new planting bed I take those cardboard boxes I get from Amazon, break them down and lay them over the spot I want to turn into a planting bed, then cover it all with leaves. By spring my planting bed is ready to go.

Do you have any data to support that claim? I ask because when I was a kid through young adulthood I remember cars breaking down regularly, not starting, and being ready for the junk pile by the time they hit 100,000 miles. The biggest issue I can think of with my past several vehicles is a light that went out on display, and all those I got rid of still ran fine when sold with over 150K miles on the odometer. -
I suspect that may be a cultural thing. Generally speaking people are seen as male or female so to fit in you would desire to be one or the other. If society actually had more accepted categories then your friend might finally find their happy place in a third category.

When? Can you provide a citation? Credit Suisse seems to still be fighting charges related to money laundering as of last year.
-
Perhaps you can set an example for us and quit pointing your fingers at the few nations you are singling out. The irony here is killing me.
-
Well, I'm glad I didn't then. But thanks for the heads up.
-
You asked if reason worked. It's kind of hard to prove it does if I cannot use examples.
-
deleted Yes, it works all the time. That's is how we got Infrastructure passed and how we've gotten this far with Build Back Better. Admittedly it works less well with gun laws as so many are on the extreme right, but it is how you get the people in the middle to move one direction or the other.
-
And others do. But two people telling each other about their opposing opinions doesn't accomplish much. If you want to convince people to change the status quo you need a reasoned argument, not personal belief. If I tell you that some guy I know sees a reason for a non-military person owning a semi-automatic weapon, I'm pretty sure you'll not change your position on personal ownership of semi- or automatic weapons.

Yes, you stood up and did the right thing. Fifty years after you stole money from Jews. And only after being sued. Talk about being hypocritical.
-
So because we discriminated against blacks, we should have stood silent as Jews were murdered? Give me a break.
