Not being religious, it's difficult for me to not take a non-religious stance on this issue. However, a view of GOD as being nonexistant leaves me a bit shaky. How do we know for a fact that a supreme power does not exist? We don't! Yes, scienctist have proven many theories as to why things exist in the universe as predicted. But even the most remote possibility that a (GOD) exists should scare hell out of us non-believers. And for those of you who believe, believe what you will, but keep your faith until "proven" otherwise.

I'll have to say one thing, the Mayan (calander) scenario has given me pause to think. But after reading a ton of transcripts relating to it, I can find nothing stating that the end of time is near, as we know it. However, a "flip flop" of earths axis' does makes a lot of sense to me. Many Pseudo-scientists are convinced that this has happened more than once in our past history. Do they have a clue? Is there enough research to make an affirmation of such a possibility? Is such a reversal possible? If so, what might be the cause of earth doing a 90 degree flip in just a few short hours? The book, Adam and Eve has a running discourse on how such an event may have happened, but nothing conclusive. Any ideas?
-
Thank goodness, i thought there was only one of me left since we lost Dick Clark today. Yes, that's it! I remember reading a very short book some years back called, "Adam and Eve". It had something to do with the earth flipping on its axis because of a magnetic pole change. Is that what the Mayans were talking about?

That's alright. But is there such a thing as gravitational reversal? And if so, how could it happen?
-
And all I was wondering about was: What will happen to my relief check, come January??? Silly me. Just what is gravitational field reversal? I really can't find anything of substance on it.

Hey! I'm actually concerned and don't even smoke. What do we do if everyone starts getting light footed and things start floating off into space?

I wouldn't worry much rigney. There are plenty of other legitimate things to worry about. Like what?

A few days prior to Christmas of this year, 2012; something of cataclismic proportion is supposed to happen concerning earths gravity. Supposedly "it", gravity will be reversed and everything will be cast into an eternal void. "WOW"! That scares hell to me since I'm going to be eighty come Dec.11. I have read tons of material on the subjest but am totally in the dark about it. Could someone please be informative? The below link is about all that I have to go on. "HELP"! http://www.2012danger.com/

Joatmon, I would much rather go to combat with a well trained Pvt. than with a Salesman, Wall Street tycoon or Religious leader. The private usually has had a High School education prior to entered the military and now has been schooled in warfare. Most of our morals and ethics are learned at this early period of our lives, not when we become suscessful and jaded. I think Vent just likes pulling the leg of unsuspecting yokel? The following gives a descent account of how military morals and ethics stack up as compared to those of a civilian. http://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=SVG2tWbIGTEC&oi=fnd&pg=PR11&dq=military+ethics+and+morals%3F&ots=tpKV42VOSY&sig=de_1le0y-jy5CkiHqH2u4FomqI4#v=onepage&q=military%20ethics%20and%20morals%3F&f=false

We can look at experiments down through history performed to make a capital point of an idea. But it goes back much farther than Pavlovs' Dog, and philosophy has little to do with it. Civilian or military, we all must follow orders to some extent. When I made the statement that even generals have bosses, you ran with it. Civilians by and large set regulations for our military. General MacArthur evidently forgot that, as did Army Air Force General, Billy Mitchell. When moral and ethical standrds of a nation are compromised, whether civilly or militarily; that country is in trouble. The following may shed some light on my thoughts.http://www.armedforcesjournal.com/2012/03/9563756 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian_control_of_the_military

Unless you have been in the military in some capacity other than a full time KP; you're simply talking apples and oranges. Yes, juris prudence is left primarily to the higher echelon and not to the enlisted man. And why? Do you think General D. MacArthur got his ass booted to the curb, (fired); by a corpral or Pfc? No! President Harry S.Truman cropped the generals horns as a reminder that even generals have bosses. As I related earlier, command decisions come from the top. Fortunately we have a military system that is morally and ethically sound enough as not to let one or two idiots destroy the foundation it was predicated upon.

No trues words could be spoken, unless you're working for the likes of a Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hussain and a few other nut cases I could readily mention. Disobeying those guys or their henchmen in any respect would only get you shot as a traitor. It takes moral courage to stand your ground, but you best be right when you do. Ignorance and/or stupidity are no substitute for courage, and just won't get the job done.

Vent Posted Yesterday, 04:06 PM rigney, on 5 April 2012 - 11:37 AM, said: I really think we should get back to my original intent. How are morals and ethics engendered to our next generations unless we move in that direction? I honestly believe our military is a Godsend in reviving views in many lives. Many people have this view. It comes from the idea that, for example, the US has the moral high ground with regard to ethical conduct in various cultures and countries and therefore it's justified in using military might for ensuring that other cultures value what the US values. With regard to your question, and your assumed assent to the above paragraph of mine, the military is a vehicle for a commanders' opinions and decisions. The guy following orders will follow the orders the vast majority of the time irrespective of the ethical nature of the act. Moral responsibility is deferred to those higher up the chain. [rigney]: Other than under total duress in combat situations, few; if any commanders in the US Military can take such assertive actions. Only when communications are totally unavailable between field positions and a higher echelon does the situation allow an officer of any rank to make the final decision as to what is good or not good for his command. But those decisions are rare without being discussed with other ranking officers. Even the decision to execute Pvt. Slovik by firing squad during WW!! likely didn't come from the local command, but straight from the White House as President Roosevelts decree. Morally and ethically, was the execution justified? I'm just glad it wasn't my decision to make. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eddie_Slovik#Court_martial Lt. Calley and the: My Lai Massacre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Lai_Massacre Can anything be morally justified in a War Theater? Kids on the USS Stennis are not at war, but could be at war on a minutes notice. I believe the regiment of training they are subjected to will be both morally and ethically helpful as their return to civilian life.

Rivalry to me is simply a: brother/brother, sister/sister, or sibling/sibling thing. Most nations nurture this type of rivalry. Until the white men came and changed their vernacular, Indians of all nations in upper America played it out to the hilt. We retain this hegemony attitude even today with our sports venues in grade schools, High schools, College and professional sports; male or female. No! Symingtons proposal was not an attempt at cohesiveness, but to convert a soverign nation into a limp wristed bunch of pansies.

I really think we should get back to my original intent. How are morals and ethics engendered to our next generations unless we move in that direction? I honestly believe our military is a Godsend in reviving views in many lives. And that has nothing to do with religion!

Wholesale is as wholesale means to the individual. If a person point a pistol at me, they best be prepared to use it. Morally and ethically, to me; the act is a wholesale onslaught.

Yes, the USA propped this bastard up, pursuing his oil. After all, we developed it for him. Now, does it really matter how many people were killed in Israel by scud missile attacks during Saddams reign? Hell no! The fact that this maneiac had an immoral attitude against anyone, including his own people and the Kurds, shows you what a piece of crap this despot was. "Off with his head". Get real, John boy.

Do I detect a bit of visceral hatred from you, for those who gave their lives to have kept you from slavery? But, if I did that, then you would have nothing to bitch about.

#35Today, 04:30 AMJoatmon Baryon I would just like to say that, certainly in my time, military personnel were subject to the general law. But in addition, not instead of, they were subject to military law. So individuals could, and are today, be held to account if they break either law. While the U.S. Codes of Military Conduct and Justice were written to enforce existing civil law, they are only as good as the people using or dispensing them. That's why I started this post by asking that each of you take a look at 10 mins. in the lives of 6,000 young people in a constant, tactical situation. "A few" will break under pressure and have to leave this ship. Some never made this trip due to their incompatibility with rules and regulations, while others didn't sail for lack of ability shown in the time allowed for basic training. But you can bet there was a psychological screening for all of those who went aboard. I wish every young person living today had a chance to be part of such a team. Morals and ethics are strengthened by association, and scruples; a combining of the two. The three are board games to be learned, if given time; and pointed in the right direction. But the one intangible, codifying all others is; "conscience". Without that ingrained and humane direction, everything else is a fools errand.

Would you consider Israel as being a puppet government of the US, or anyone else? Saddam was pumping Scud Missiles into that country "wholesale', as a trecherous reminder of just how powerful he was at the time.. Israel is a friend of ours, not a crazed bunch of lunitics wanting to assail everyone outside their borders. Why do you consider it such a strange reply? And to agree with me? Au contraire!, I thrive on consternation. And "Testy", only when someone thinks they have the upper hand.

Personally, I have questioned our leaders ethics and morals, historically; going back to Jeffersons time. Does the United States look out for its best interest? Bet your sweet ass it does. No!, I didn't mention: Tibet, Georgia, Bosnia, and the Falkland islands, among others, simply because I didn't mention the Aleuts, native Alaskans, the Innuit, Hawaiians or Samoans. Tell me, is there a country anywhere in this world, who; having had some sort of power, didn't screw up morally and ethically, somehow? Please don't try explaining to me what your concept of screwing up, means.
-
Believe me Captain, I didn't start this post for your edification. My only intent was to explain that training and cooperatrion are good examples of how to improve ethical and moral fortitude, not that either is a cure all.
-
No John, you evidently never got the point to start with. You see, "We have the power!", and malicious hatred is something we leave to others, so that when we do see fit to kick their ass, the reasoning is obvious. Thank God we do not seek conquest, only justification for our actions. Are we right all of the time? "Hell no". But the only land America owns in any foreign nation is hallowed, where many of our troops will lie for an eternity, in defense of those countries. Perhaps this kind of assistance will also stop when the US finally realizes the jealosy that is harbored by those who think of us only as a cash cow.I may not know the full meaning of morals and ethics. But I do know that being unethical and immoral is when you smile at a meaningful friend, and stab him in the back.
