Who isn't somewhat hypocritical in one way or another? I don't care a rats a-- about the guy, his movies or philosophy. But if I had his money I'd live where ever the hell I wanted to. Moore wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

El Stupido! Mistake on my part folks, this was supposed to have been the link. http://www.angelfire.com/ak2/intelligencerreport/obama_at_bat.html Can we put it back in Politics now?
-
No matter which side of the fence you're on, if a chuckle of amusement doesn't escape you once in a while; life is too grim. http://creation.com/atheism

What a pity such brilliance can't rationally embrace intellectual differences. Me, I still believe in Santa Claus each Christmas, and the Easter Bunny every April! But Carl Sagan, is his words verbatim? Even the documentary this this young guy below offers, scares the bejabbers out of me. I suppose that's why I'll always be an agnostic. Too dumb to understand science, and too smart to try religion.

Believe me, I'm not trying to build a science around my ignorance of whatever gravity is or isn't? But other than seeing it as an offshoot of magnetism, I simply haven't the rationalization to see it as a force. If I continue to read, perhaps that might change.
-
Wish I could understand the statement with compentency, even a little.
-
I have no idea who the guy is other than by reading his anti-convictions. As I've said many time, all I have are questions. If I might ask, how do animals and plants withstand this constant pull of gravity? Surely there is an explination, and if you can point me in the right direction, I'll make an attempt to understand it. Thanks

I have spent the past 4 days reading on gravity alone. Not understanding the mathematical physics of what is called gravity, I'm still at a loss. Many professionals question both Newtons and Einsteins theories. This guy, being a physicist surely makes a lot more sense than me.http://www.philvaz.com/apologetics/p67.htm

The speeds I mention are not exact, nor the calculations done by me; since I haven't a clue, but by mathematicians who have made them for years. Myself, if I cut a board three times it would still be too short. I'm sure the calculated distances from our earth to the moon, sun or other planets are correct, since the calculations were done by professionals who have worked on them for years. Me, I just don't know the how part, nor really feel the need to do so. But by reading, there are thousands of questions I ask and ideas that come along as I read. Speculations on this forum is a place for ideas looking for answers, not the use of concrete evidence as a trap. Some of the questions I ask or the ideas I offer may seem trivial to many of you, just not to me. To answer your first two questions, I don't believe a statement was made to qualify either. But what scientists do say is that, "every atom" in the universe seems to be magnetic by its own intrinsic nature, and below that level there may be many questions.
-
I give up. What is your time frame, concept and reference of: "Universal Time"?
-
You referenced everything perfectly, but if you noticed, I didn't try giving an overall speed to the universe.
-
Are we supposed to relegate these brilliant "scientists" who calculated and defined such speeds, to a looney bin? Ok! Starting at 2 P.M. (x), The hog drinks a quart of buttermillk before he starts, (y), runs 30 minutes and two miles before he farts. (z) With 20 miles to the finish line, at what time should he stop to sh--t?[/b]
-
Relative, yes! But relative to what? Can you quote a specific time that these speeds have changed to any degree, unless one body has slammed into another body?

If the universe slowed or stopped in its tracks tomorrow, would gravity exist as we view it today? I think not, since to me, it is a product due to static electricity caused by the constant speed of our universe. But I do believe magnetism would still be viable, since everything is made of atoms, and atoms are an intrinsic part of all matter.
-
All I'm saying is, magnetism is a known factor that can be changed to meet qualifications such as electronics, motors and many other applications. Static electricity can also be altered by speed to include the effects of one material on another, and lightning is only one of them. I'm not knocking gravity. I just cant bring myself to believe it is a force in itself, but a facet of magnetism. Even electricity is only an extension of magnetism.
-
To let you know how dumb I think, let's say the universe slowed or stopped in its tracks tomorrow. Would gravity still exist or not? I don't think so, since to me it is only a metaphor of magnetism. But I believe magnetism would still be viable, since everything is made of atoms, and atoms are an intrinsic part of all matter.

I have read, read,(reread!) and (reread!),until at times I wish physics had been my prize. Likely I would have had a better shot at Russian, or 20 different dialects of Chinese. I realize that nothing is perfect, but formulation without absolute stipulation stuns me. How can a formula be true for one application of a situation and not, for another part of the same event; even though they concern the same thing? I'm referfing to gravitational and magnetic shielding in sub atomic findings. And how can anything be so absolute when nothing is at rest in the universe? This is just one of many. Is the guy just another crackpot, or on the level? It's just too deep for me to understand. http://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ciencia/secret_projects/project124.htm

To be absolutely proof positive in reasoning isn't a rational way of doing business. I love the market, but never buy on a whim. Science itself is a mystery to me since I understand so little of the innuendo used to explain it, so I'm always asking questions. And to say that God exists without absolute proof, takes a lot of faith and hutzpah. To say he doesn't, takes even more of both. Is there a God?Does such a supreme entity exist? Does anyone know for sure, pro or con? I sure as hell don't!
-
Yes, it wasn't very bright of me to offer a well established scientific fact as a parallel to religious beliefs. Regardless of what the unknowns of gravity eventually turn out to be, it does work unerringly and never kills anyone or anything other than by accident or stupidy. You can't possibly say the same for religions. And while I'm no Theist or Atheist, I hope the riddle of this vast universe can be solved so it can be put to rest.
-
I apoligise Mooey if it appears that way. And meaning no disrespect, but if you could qualify an axiom as to what gravity is, other than some mathematical equations, I would happily concede defeat and declare atheism my choice of conviction. Heck! even I know that what we call gravity-works. But how? Where is the proof that it isn't just the subset of another force? If I find that answer, I will either have, or will not have a God. 'till then, and with all due respect; I simply don't know.
-
Absolutely! It's unfair to beat a dead horse, regardless of whose silks he was wearing when he fell.
-
Knock yourself out, since you have the upper hand. Just trying to reaffirm my position that I'm neither religious or an athiest and simply don't know the answer to the question, but don't want to be hemmed into a position where I must make a definite yea or nay. Damn, but you guys can be a tough crowd!

This may or may not be the proper place to display such a topic, but on occasion we must look back at our recent history and wonder why things exist as they do. The following is only a glimpse.
-
Then, can we rightfully say that we are agnostic; rather than atheist?
