  1. One "BIG BANG" or a Cyclical Universe At a point in time some thirteen to fourteen billion years ago, our universe supposedly became such, and continues speeding along at a seemingly vectorial constant. Questions of contention are; Into what is it flying? Is it a closed or open system? Will entropy be the end of it? If so, why and how will that end happen? Can it be said without equivocation that a GENESIS did not occur at that precise moment those aeons ago, as merely the half cycle of a continuously pulsating "universe"? In a word, is our world "eternal", or just passing through? Since there is no possible way of proving or disproving such conjecture, I would like to see as many opinions as possible for others to read. So, take yours off the shelf and run with it. Who knows, one of them may be the answer to many unsolved questions.
  2. A different look at the un-meaningful scourge of nature! http://nation.foxnews.com/culture/2011/03/28/most-insane-tsunami-footage-yet
  3. Devastating and scary, under the best conditions. http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=c3rqPPJPwLg
  4. I'm told that it's pretty "hard" to keep your mind on something that isn't very hard , and even then; you can't make babies.
  5. Another tid-bit John B. We lost President, John F.Kennedy to an assassin some years back when Lee Harvy Oswald used a cheaply bought Carcano rifle to accomplish his deed. A person wanting to commit mayhem doesn't need an arsenal, just a bit of luck and a little skill. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGOQ2oebB2M
  6. Glad you don't need snopes John B. I sort of felt like an idiot, jumping up and running with the news that an old lady had "de-nutted" a couple bad asses for hurtin' her kin. It actually made me feel good to think it could happen. I'm sure glad you Aussies are a hell of a lot smarter than what the snopes reply lets on. Was dumb on my part for even sending it forward without further checking its validity. Especially to the forum. Brrr! I feel a bit bad for my mistake, but for me and most Americans, all international apologies must be routed through White House diplomatic channels at present. I wish the same thing AJB, but snopes "done" shot me down on this one. Thanks, I'm glad we have a thing like snopes around. I could likely stay out of much trouble by checking with it once in a while. No hoot!, only the vociferous voices of three hundred million + people who say that it won't happen here.
  7. Thanks. It only shows how gullable one can be when taking someones word as gospel. without checking the source. It was just to beautiful not to believe! "Daaa"---
  8. No matter how you look at it, she demanded justice. DEPORT HER TO AMERICA! The Rambo Granny of Melbourne , Australia Gun-toting granny Ava Estelle, 81, was so ticked-off when two thugs raped her 18-year-old granddaughter that she tracked the unsuspecting ex-cons down.... And shot off their testicles. "This old lady spent a week hunting those perverts down. Finding them, she took revenge on them in her own special way," said Melbourne police investigator Evan Delp. She then took a taxi to the nearest police station, laid the gun on the Sergeant's desk and told him as calm as could be: "Those bastards will never rape anybody again, by God." Cops say convicted rapist and robber Davis Furth, 33, lost both his penis and his testicles when outraged Ava opened fire with a 9-mm pistol in the hotel room where he and former prison cell mate Stanley Thomas, 29, were holed up. The wrinkled avenger also blew Thomas' testicles to kingdom come, but doctors managed to save his mangled penis, police said. "The one guy, Thomas, didn't lose his manhood, but the doctor I talked to said he won't be using it the way he used to," Detective Delp told reporters. "Both men are still in pretty bad shape, but I think they're just happy to be alive after what they've been through." This Rambo Granny swung into action August 21 after her granddaughter Debbie was carjacked and raped in broad daylight by two knife-wielding creeps in a section of town bordering on skid row. "When I saw the look on my Debbie's face that night in the hospital, I decided I was going to go out and get those bastards myself 'cause I figured the Law would go easy on them,"' recalled the retired library worker. " And I wasn't scared of them, either - because I've got a gun and I've been shootin' all my life. And I wasn't dumb enough to turn it in when the law changed, about owning one." So, using a police artist's sketch of the suspects and Debbie's description of the sickos, tough-as-nails Ava spent seven days prowling the wino-infested neighborhood where the crime took place till she spotted the ill-fated rapists entering their flophouse hotel. "I knew it was them the minute I saw 'em, but I shot a picture of 'em anyway and took it back to Debbie and she said sure as hell, it was them," the oldster recalled... "So I went back to that hotel and found their room and knocked on the door, and the minute the big one opened the door, I shot him right square between the legs, right where it would really hurt 'em most, you know. Then I went in and shot the other one as he backed up pleading to me to spare him. Then I went down to the police station and turned myself in." Now, baffled lawmen are trying to figure out exactly how to deal with the vigilante granny. "What she did was wrong, and she broke the law, but it is difficult to throw an 81-year-old woman in prison," Det. Delp said, "especially when 3 million people in the city want to nominate her for Mayor." DEPORT HER TO AMERICA, WE NEED HER! ******************************************************************************** Australian Gun Law Update Here's a thought to warm some of your hearts.... From: Ed Chenel, A police officer in Australia thought Yanks would like to see the real figures from Down Under. (I don't know the exact date?) It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced by a new law to surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed by our own government, a program costing Australia taxpayers more than $500 million dollars. The first year results are now in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 6.2 percent, Australia-wide, assaults are up 9.6 percent; Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent)! In the state of Victoria alone, homicides with firearms are now up 300 percent. (Note that while the law-abiding citizens turned them in, the criminals did not and criminals still possess their guns!) While figures over the previous 25 years showed a steady decrease in armed robbery with firearms, this has changed drastically upward in the past 12 months, since the criminals now are guaranteed that their prey is unarmed. There has also been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly, while the resident is at home. Australian politicians are at a loss to explain how public safety has decreased, after such monumental effort and expense was expended in 'successfully ridding Australian society of guns....' You won't see this on the American evening news or hear your governor or members of the State Assembly disseminating this information. The Australian experience speaks for itself. Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws affect only the law-abiding citizens. Take note Americans, before it's too late! Will you be one of the sheeple to turn yours in? WHY? You will need it. DON'T BE A MEMBER OF THE SILENT MAJORITY. BE ONE OF THE VOCAL MINORITY WHO WON 'T STAND FOR NONSENSE
  9. With all of the precautions taken, it does make you wonder about the location? My hope now is that they can do a quick fix to cool the monster before it become another Chernobyl. Japan just doesn't have the luxury of fifty square miles of land lying fallow.
  10. Even with the deepest of resect, nature is still our most formidable enemy. http://www.abc.net.au/news/events/japan-quake-2011/beforeafter.htm
  11. Still experimental, but it works. Many of you likely understand this process completely, but to me it is a fascinating marvel of science. A 3 minutes video you will want to see. http://www.thatvideosite.com/video/the_skin_gun
  12. Had to go back to your previous statement about the "box" to make a reply. Scientifically, there is little in my life to call successful. Theologically, probably even less. So, for me to make a competant statement regarding either, is out of the question. Since I can't make such a judgement, it allows me to free wheel my thinking. While this process may not impress anyone, it makes me feel ok. If someone latches onto something I say and proves it, I'll be happy just knowing it worked. Anyway, there is ambiguity enough in any pholosophy that using a box to describe its shortcomings isn't needed. Someday an answer to your second question may be found.
  13. (Supernatural) Definitly a poor choice of words. But it does leave religeous folks a crack in the door. 1. Of or relating to existence outside the natural world. 2. Attributed to a power that seems to violate or go beyond natural forces. 3. Of or relating to a deity. (Phenomenal) Even as many theories are concluded as fact, much remains unknown of the atom and our universe? 1. Of, relating to, or constituting phenomena or a phenomenon 2. Extraordinary; outstanding: a phenomenal feat of memory. 3. Philosophy Known or derived through the senses rather than through the mind.
  14. My opening "Poser" was not intended to extend a religious, scientific conflict. That goes on well enough without my help. My use of supernatural was to express something that can't necessarily be seen or fealt, yet suspected of being real. Without that search for knowledge, science would have ended once fire making had been understood. Scientist go through miles of speculation before making a defenite conclusion of anythig. Without that self enforced dictum, Science would be a laughing stock. Strings is such a theory. Wild? Yes. Black Holes, the same, as well as The Higgs boson and many others close at hand, not even counting an entire universe. There are tons of theories without answers, of which all remain supernatural to me. Only wish I understood more about them.
  15. Perhaps I should have used: "unobservable" or phenomenal? I hope humans or our successors have at least another 10 to 20 thousand years to clear up some of these answers. I'm glad you are using and furthering your knowledge. There was nothing meant as subversive in my statement, "use it now". But it was an accusation to those who harbor secrets until they are no longer viable to an industry. I've seen it happens time and time again, as I'm sure you have. Greed is a "Bitch" and it's only money.
  16. If a can of worms such as, second-order delta or "uncertainty" was opened by even the least; we wouldn't be around long enough to know it happened. Yet we keep searching and searching and searching, for what? Knowledge is a fantastic thing, and some folks have more than their share. Use it now.
  17. What if "Supernatural and Physics" have the same meaning, but revelation(ary), opposed to conjoining by major groups of hardheads? Might gravity then remain forever, the single unsolved mystery of our universe?
  18. Personally, as one of those white eyed bastards of whom you speak, I would much rather have been 7' 1", and in the NBA making $20,000,000 bucks a year. Or maybe 6' 3", 220 lbs. @ $10,000,000 a year as a wide receiver for the Steelers. Barring that, 6' 1", 195 lbs. with a good arm and playing shortstop for the Yankees, would have been just fine. Don't get much better than that! And we needn't go into ethnecity for such a backdrop. Just count your blessings each day. Nope!, has nothing to do with religion or science. Only "Nature".
  19. I'm just the messanger! but I remember when intergration actually meant something. My God, it was a big thing some years ago. Happened to me in the military, to my children in school, and is happening to my grandchildren and great grandchildren as I speak. C'mon let's knock this benevolent B.S. off and get back to living. Sensible Blacks, Whites, Hispanics and whom ever, have come to realize that no one owes anyone a living today. Yes, there was a time when America was not fair to certain ethnic groups. And yes, we can put Blacks at the top of the list, after we acknoledge the desimation of an entire Indian Nation. I saw it and lived with it, but was too ignorant to understand it. That was sixty, seventy years ago. But then, when is enough; enough? When do we as a united nation say, "it's over"?????
  20. Well, this morning, thanks to you; I have another outlook of the BB theory. "Lamda CDM". Yesterday I wouldn't have had a clue as to its meaning. Even the words, cold dark matter are formidable. Went on the internet earlier trying to get a read on it, but at my speed it would require a couple years to digest the basics, if even then. But why is it we seem to have such a fatalistic attitude when it comes to the universe? Perhaps all of the calculations point to a dispursement ending in an eventual nothingness, but could there be some other alternative? Do we actually know what either dark matter or dark energy are at this time? Are they actually a part of the universe, or hypothetical? I hope someone will soon come up with a practical calculution that matter may revert to its original form after having becoming a physical part of the universe as we know it.
  21. Actually, I've come to depend on your input. Honesty and simplicity is this forums finest attribute. More important, it's knowledge the world needs to know and understand. Now back to my BS. I believe our universe 'was a solid", and more than a billion miles in any direction, when the BB began. Jackson, Since I keep everyone else on my butt, why should I expect anything different from you? Seriously though, other than some well thought out, aged formulations, does anyone have a real clue? Hell no! If simpatico rules the roost, best we find another way to get our points across. Not to be nasty, but I would disagree with GOD, if I thought there was a possibility of my winning.
  22. Yea!, but when the middle finger of my right hand comes down on that shift key, I haven't a clue as to what's gonna happen? Spent 10 days in typing class back in 53. Seriously though, other than what science have deemed to be gospel, do we really know what happened?
  23. When our universe began, supposedly it was accompanied by extreme heat in the millions or perhaps even billions of degrees Kelvin. Did this event actually take place? Who can say, other than scientists; who really want to solve the issue? For simplicity's sake and the fact we are here, assume it did happen as such. Being a pragmatist with nothing to accentuate or back up my reasoning, it's quite possible our world sprang from such a nothingness? If so, then wouldn't it be rational to assume it will return to that same nothingness? Don't get me wrong, this has nothing to do with science or religon, yada yada; just a question. And all of this, from a primordial soup? Yes! I believe it actually happened just that way. "Big Bang", you have my vote. Anyone want to refute it?
  24. Five words connote the worlds immeasurable chaos. Lust, Greed, Envy, Avarice and "Power". Take your pick. Underneath, they all intermingle. What can only be hoped for in a fractured peace, is control of a bad situation.
  25. As a professional you are likely not to see the humor as this layman does. Over the years it was fun using the empty wire gag, plus Wiggies and Hickeys while working with electrical apprentices. But I'm sure you are more attuned to the Higgs Boson theory. A well thought out theory, but theory nonetheless. Supposedly, we are restricted to light speed due to the Higgs Boson permeating our entire universe. Without it enveloping our world, it seems light speed would be like a walk in the park. If the theory should become factual, what happens then? Do we just write a new book and toss everything else out? Doubtful. But if we find a way around "this barrier", many theories will have to be altered, if not totally scrapped. As a scientist, do you think the Higgs theory has merit?
