Let me try explaining my thoughts another way. Working with electricity my entire adult life, there are certain anomalies that are strange, yet consistant. For instance, a standard A/C 60 cycle 120V system. Unless the mechanics break down, or we deliberately alter the frequency, electrons in the wire move only fractionally. D.C. is another animal entirely, of which I'm sure you understand. But then, I've never seen an empty (wire) conductor. What if the Higgs boson becomes a factor to begin another chapter in our universe? How do we cope with it? Supposidly the Higgs keeps everything in prospective. A baseball thrown at a 100 mph. A bullet @ 3,300 fps and a rocket, 17,000 + mph. My question is, a photon striking earth at this very instant, is it the same one that left a super nova 13 billion light years ago, a replica, or just giving another photon a boost?

I can't fault your convictions since you seem quite religious, and thats your business. But you see, vermin such as this cannot in any fashion be defined as soldiers. That's why I suggested when we catch them, we snuff them. People who stoop to such a low level of depravity and humanity deserves nothing more than what they give out. Now, were these guys guilty only by association? As a conspiracy group? Or a cadre, far mor sinister? Does it matter? "Hell No". Right now we have several of them in custody. We can't kill them so long after the fact. If so, then we share the same guilt as this murdering bunch of bastards who initiated the piracy. So, what do we do with them? I know, let's put them in jail where we can feed, clothe, bathe and buy them school books. And when we do send them home, which we will; there will be a more educated bunch of pirate to deal with. I would say something more constructive, but you know me by now.

I honestly liked your answer. So, let me rephrase the question in another manner. Does a radio wave speed up or slow down in frequency over time, or eventually fade into nothingness? And is there anyway to substantiate this as fact?

Deferential? If you've followed my discussions anywhere on this forum, you know I'm not the sharpest nail in the keg. But when I feel I'm being 'coat hangered", (screwed with); I simply become hostile. Not physically hostile of course, but emotionally so. I don't know how to moderate simplicity, since that is my mind set. If I read you wrong and was offernive, I apologise. Just be easy on this old boy and give him rhyme and reason he can understand. The topic was more of what I was trying to stress. Four innocent people murdered, why?

I ask such a question simply because I haven't arrived at an answer. I've searched and searched into everything I can imagine and have yet to find anything conclusive. If someone has a viable answer, please let me know?

Golly gee! at seventy eight, I hope you're right! Since I'm not onto platitudenal replies, don't hold your breath. Told you exactly what I meant, so don't push it, unless you're willing to put your bra, dress and shoe size on the forum.

Somalia, with over 1,300 miles of coast line.

I was gonna jump outa here, run to Taco Bell and get some burritos, but saw your reply and a foot of snow outside, and decided it was a bad idea. Yes, I'm an old fart with a lot of demerits to go along with the time. Mean? Begrudging? Can't say I would like to be saddled with such a description. Vengeful? Well, you read my disposition, and if the shoe fits, I simply have to wear it. "I wish the world" could look at things in the simple manner many of you folks do. Wish I could!, sorry.

Pardon me Jackson!. I did see your reply, but sometimes it's hard looking at a single tree while scanning an entire forest, even though that tree is a Maple shedding in autumn, and the rest; all pines. The American system has changed constantly as far back as I can remember. Do I like all of those changes? No! Do I try keeping up with all of them? No! But it's Americans making these changes, not some foreign power. My hope is that it stays that way and we don't awake some morning to find that the rules are totally alien. Now that would be a shock and revelation to many, while pleasing others. History tells us, complacency is the greatest downfall of any nation. Let's just don't drive bamboo splints under our own fingernails and blame it on the other guy. There's enough guilt to go around. I've said it many times, just don't know where the expression came from. But, "water will seek it's own lever and eventually find it". America is no different than any other super power that has ever been. It will only remain super as long as there is a moral purpose and a decorum to match.

I sincerely hope not!. And probably sounding like an old bastard with an ax to grind, you may thank of us elders as a bit crazy and senile, and you may be right. But to me, brutality can only be counteracted with "more than equal brutality". Is this such a case? Is it fair and just? No, only sensible and necessary. If the shoe were on the other foot, these people would desimate our nation in a heart beat. We merely have to get their attention, and demonstrate that, if you kill even one of us, we will destroy you in toto. Not your nation, not your family, "but you as the individual, you, the pirate"! Unless we realize and accentuate such a forcefulness, we're in no better shape than a guy doing life in stir. We're behind bars! and held captive by our own emotions and indiscretions. Our military is brave, honorable and have the tools to do any job. But what drives or doesn't drive them to completion, are weak administrators.

Since no one seems to be discussing the issue, thought I'd toss it out for conjecture. Were these people, right, wrong or simply stupid? But then, who gives a rats ass? I just want an opinion. Me, without an army onboard for protection, no way would I get involved in those waters off Somalia for anything. It's a dangerous place with a mixed cultural bag. I feel for the deceased and their families, and a shot to the cranium can't be a fun thing. So, if you're going to give out bibles, best you do it on land. These guys are pirates and really don't give a damned about you or your religion. And the thirteen pirates captured? Manacle their hands behind them, and at twenty foot intervals, put a double knotted noose around each neck, get a thousand yards off shore with a good intide running and kick their asses overboard! If others paddle out to save them, "snuff" their asses also. We may lose a few good idiots who have gone into those waters, but piracy would soon be a thing of the past. Being genteel just doesn't make it.

Where Does Space End? It Must End Somewhere!
rigney replied to Edisonian's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Might half a quark be considered a "QUAUQ"? And could that quauq then be further sub-divided into a pair of "s'UQAQU's'"? Is there actually a dividing line between matter and ? Unless we are lucky enough to submit to a dream world, and live in it as the Aborigine, we will always have questions without answers. Yes, to me our universe is a continuous and cyclic event going on and on in a "forever" continuum. Please don't quote that as fact, I stay in trouble enough as it is. -
Why is there no forum for (insert field here)?
rigney replied to Sayonara's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
Several people on the forum have been defrocked, deported, banned, beheaded and the like, for violating forum decorum. Descriptions as to why they have been banned are vague to me and don't ring a bell. Is there a glossery, or small dictionary somewhere that I've missed, explaining such violations and degrees of punishment? I merely want to get a better understanding of things. If there is one, please tell me where. Thanks. -
There are hundreds who may have posted this differently and better. Unfortunately I made the ignorant statement "Is this something we want our children to learn"? That statement hasn't been answered not even once. Everyone wants to talk about the big issue. Today Feb, 21 2011, the issue remains insolvent. Listen, I've worked both sides of the fence for years, and watched a maniacal display from both, and the middle; "I want to kick some ass" to show who's boss. Until that frame of mind ends and goes away, we're in deep do-do! pal. There is no way to have your cake and eat it to, regardless of which part of the triangle you represent. Should we pick on our teachers, firemen, police, politicians or the poor bastard trying to live and pay your salary? "Hell no"? Let's kill off this whole damned miserable system, put everyone on a subsidy of sorts, turn America over to another country and let them deal with it. The way we are going, it's only a matter of time anyway. Wake up thieves, have nots, and want mores, there's a fork in the road, just up ahead.

If I've read you right, thanks. Appreciation from ant quarter should nor be taken lightly in any form. It's just a bit tough here on the forum trying to read into a motive you're not quite sure of. What we know on occasion may not supply an ant with sustinance, since few of us are genius, yours truely included. But my questions and answers are very simple, which may not always fit well with some. But to others, they might offer an alternate perspective. There are no absolutes out here at the moment, only meaningful and some proven hypothesis. Hope this don't sound like a preach?

Wrong? no not wrong! just inquisitive. But without proper knowledge of the rules, it's dangerous. And the mere thought of senility doesn't do a thing for me. My knees are what hurt, not my mind. But I do in all honesty dislike and even distain some people who think they know every thing there is to know. Not that I'm saying that you fit that mold. But some folks, bless their hearts, they do. If I may, I'd like to ask you a question that only this morning I posed on google. Did our ancients like, Einstein, Hubble, Voltair, Newton and the like, set standards for what we today are still trying to figure out? But then, just how far can you unravel the mystery of our solar system as compared to that of an atom? And while both may seem to function somewhat the same, they, as far as my opinion, are not.

Do appreciate your testimony John B., but gotta tell you; I'm just a grizzled old Hill Billy Coot with a mentality of the forties and a head to match, hard as a rock. Sometimes I jump in the water before checking how deep it is, only to find after taking the plunge, it's over my head and I can't swim. Then, the Gators and Crocks in that hole are usually a lot tougher than me. That sort of lets the fun slip away real quick. Just kidding! In the past few months I've come to fully understand my ignorance of the universe, not my stupidity, which there is plenty of. And while I'm not too swift at calculations, I do follow the reasoning of many of these theories. But questions without a preponderance, don't ask. Wow! Some of these guys are a little touchy and with good reason I suppose. So, for the time being, I'll leave it right there and be more cautious when bringing a penknife to a gun fight thinking it will do the job. 'Thanks." I'll try watching my Ps and Qs for a while, but it's doubtful that I will ever learn even a bit of etiqutte or decorum? And that dashing savoir-faire thing? Been lots of years since I've seen it in the mirror.

I don't directly blame the young folks of today, they have been coddled, pampered and taught that what they can't achieve will be given to them, which is far from true. I do sincerely believe working is part of life and to ignore that during the time young people learn the things needed in life (their childhood), is an injustice to them.

I suppose being bald, fat, old and ugly, plus senile, should give you pause for thought. Ok! senility, anyhow. I realize the concepts of magnetism and gravity are quite different. What science has done in space over the past fifty years would have been impossibe without understanding how gravity functions. There would be no satellites, space stations, moon walks, missions to Mars or shots out into our galaxy. The USSR would have probably snuffed us long before now. Having just a smidge of knowledge as to how our universe works, I probably should have kept my mouth shut. From now on I will try understanding more of what's going on before jumping in with both feet. At least, I hope so? Thanks J.B. To the rest of the forum, you can see what you're dealing with?

Poll , What do you think about Egyptian Revolution ?
rigney replied to Silence Resonance's topic in The Lounge
I believe Egypt will do just fine as long as they are not inundated by meddling countries. (Ours Included). Their army seems strong enough to maintain control and I think the average Egyptian is looking only for stability, not tyranny from anyone. -
Whoo! Hold on there for a minute and keep a few of those stocks under your hat. Shucks, I'd like to diversify a bit myself. Just don't send a prospectus though email, some folks out there will steal anything they can get their fingers on.

A governor of a state is the chief executive and they command the police in their state. I'm not sure how that really plays out, or any of the particulars, but they're supposed to have control over their police forces. The police would not arrest Miller, if I understand correctly, since they are in session. The issue is that they cannot have a house vote without at least one present democratic senator. But perhaps they should be able to arrest him, because - in theory anyway - they could hold up emergency legislation using the same tactic and could paralyze part of the government in a crisis. Some might characterize this budget issue as such a crisis.

Please, What does the statement mean?

Who sent that Jackson? I simply loved it. But you just can't quite relate it to a work ethic. I spent a couple summers in a machine shop on weekends. Eh! well, more than that when they needed me. And that, depending on what they had going on. From home, I could hit the building with a rock and there was no down town to worry mom and Dad. Never got paid a nickle, other than a bottle of Nehi Cola and a pack of Nabs every day. I had begged Leo and Ed, both machinists; to show me the ropes on how a steam engine worked. I was eleven that summer and the war was on full tilt and ka-ka was happening everywhere. Both guys talked to my Dad, who told them, yep! as long as you don't pay him or get him killed. Now, is that a Dad or what? I received an education on that field trip and two pairs of jeans, a denium shirt and new shoes, all, after the fact. Even Pop got a couple fifths of good booze out of the deal. In all honestly, I wouldn't have traded that experience for anything in the world. Bothered my Mom quite a bit, but Big Alice was mine on the weekends, even though Leo and Ed never left me alone with her longer time enough to go to the Johnny house. Well, you know what I mean? Come Snday nights, I'd be sweaty and tired; Ed and Leo, sweaty and tired, brothers Charley and Clarence King, sweaty and tired, but w'd have Alice stoked and ready to push empties up to the mine and "push back" on the loads going down to the river. On qccasion, before my head hit the pillow, I'd hear that one scream of her whistle after the switch was thrown as Ed and Charlie was taking her up the holler toward the mine. I was a kid, but memories like that are few and far between. And no regrets.
