I'm with you Steevy. I like to call that spacious place, the "Continuum".

As you say Lad, A true spirit may be extinguished, but never broken. Wshing all of you 'Down Unders" my best. Just one question, how can someone make a donation without delay? And the poem, it says a lot!

How about we get back to the subject. Just what kind of face does a normal, or "mad" 22 year old murderer present to the public?

I'm gonna work on it, and thanks. I have never been into computers, and typing is a chore for me at best. Went to typing class for ten days in Heidelberg, Germany back in 1953. The teach then threw me and 3 WACS out. I'll leave it go at that. My best ability is probably 12/15 words a minute, cheating to the + side. Put up with me for a bit and I'll try getting it right. Thanks again.

Thinking that may have been for my benefit, I would appreciate you giving a tutorial on that (quote thing), bringing new folks and myself up to square one. I got on forum in late May of 2010 and hacked around a bit trying to get my feet firmely set. No, I never did learn to use the quote feature since it was in transition at that time and I am not really that sharp at anything anymore. But I'm sure, after watching my inadequacy for a bit; some one will explain the system to me, and how it works. Just no pity parties please! Thanks.

I'm not sure if we are better off for having helped those middle eastern countries defeat the Russians? Perhaps we would have been better off to have let the Russians win? Don't believe there has been a Russian soldier killed in any of the mentioned countries over the past fifteen/twenty years or so. Heck,! I don't think they're even mad at the Russian's anymore? Of course they still have one of the bad guys, "U.S." Picked this out of CaptainPanic's link. http://www.brown.edu...ions/Oppose.htm The United States became the sole representative of the West after 1972, when Great Britain, poor and humbled, could no longer afford to maintain a full military force in the region. Anxious to protect oil supplies from the Soviet Union, Washington propped up the Shah of Iran and the Saudi Arabian government in the ill-fated "Twin Pillars" strategy. This ended with the Iranian revolution, leaving America with a messy patchwork of military and political detritus. When Iran went to war with Iraq, the U.S. supported Saddam Hussein to prevent Iran from winning. Anxious about Soviet incursions into Afghanistan, it propped up the Taliban. These two monstrous forces--Saddam and the Taliban--are very much an American creation.

Man, that is scary. Where are you located in relation to this disaster JohnB? I've seen floods and flash floods in my time, but nothing like this on flat ground. Just picked this off the news a few minutes ago. A torrent of water swept through Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley yesterday afternoon, devastating the region with flash flooding and leaving nine dead and 66 missing. Brisbane, Ipswich and surrounding areas are preparing for flood waters. Crikey will be updating this story tomorrow. Update 8:40 pm The death of four-year-old boy swept into the floods at Marburg during a rescue attempt of his family takes the latest flood death toll to ten, announced Premier Anna Bligh. The missing persons number has risen to 78, with “grave concerns” for 18 of those people. All of those missing are in the Toowoomba/Lockyer region

Well, I'm not going to contridict a word you say, just question. But when you see bold type, it will be your annotations. And really, my questioning will not be trying to trap you into something you're no comfortable with. And religion, I would rather it had not been part of the post, but it was the statemen I saw. I was searching through google and ran across the item and it looked interesting. But your statements: I reject the premise that everything had a start or that that suggestion is even based on evidence? What does that mean in layman terms? Then your second statement: Secondly, there is strong evidence against god: the entirety of science, all of which works fine without god. A god is unnecessary, provides no predictive value, is extra... and that's at best. Me? I'm not concerned by a hypothesis in either direction. Just looking for some subtle truths. Preachers and televangelist's scare hell out of me. But so does unnecessary intrensic and unfounded rhetoric.

Why would the BB necessarily have had to be the idea of a creationist? I personally have thoughts as many of you, about how this universe could have came into being without god being in the mix at all. Yes, we know the "whole enchilada" came from somewhere, but where? And that's understandable! We just don't know!We hardly know enough about our own solar system, let alone making an overall assessment of a universe we know absolutely nothing about. And that's not selling a bunch of great minds short who work on it daily. Wish to hell I had the knowledge to do it myself. My problem is in trying to figure out who is most stirring the stink? This dichotomy will never go away as long as there are two people left to differ. Will someone either prove to me that there is a god, or there isn't one. Careful now, I just can't take someones word as gospel, one way or another. And the math, it's beyond me.

I suppose that's why the first statement puzzles me most. Quote: In our everyday experience, just about everything seems to have a beginning. In fact, the laws of science show that even things which look the same through our lifetime, like the sun and other stars, are running down. The sun is using up its fuel at millions of tons each second. Since, therefore, it cannot last forever, it had to have a beginning. The same can be shown as true for the entire universe. While the observable universe is a total mystery other using infrared and some extremely good telescopes, it is observation with limited answers. Questions like, "Where did everything come from"?, How long will it last, and where will it go? Does not cease to be a riddle for everyone.

Does GOD exist, or simply a metaphor denouncing believers in him; as ignorant? Neither a mathematician, scientist or professing a religion, I grope daily for a better understanding of our universe. Do I get soluble answers? "Rarely". I read through this Christian literature thing about an hour or so ago and thought it was quite interesting, yet not overpowering or provocative. I will likely have my a-- handed to me for presenting it to the forum before the day is over, but it is something that should be considered. Many brilliant people on this program are not faith orientated, but knowledgable in scientific fields because of their education. Me?, I just jump at the chance to offer something different. It's lengthy, but if you'd like to, give it a read and discuss it. http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c038.html

How can a thing, the universe for instance; expand for "15 minutes or 15 billion" years and not start with some sort of center and dimension, regardless of its size? I simply can't imagine the origin of anything having neither.

It's tough trying to figure out who's right or wrong, especially when most of us are biased. But it would be fantastic, regardless of how one believes or disbelieves if we could work it out along Satchmo's idea of fairness.

Pardon me!. I sense that you are extremely sensitive to blase statements in any accord. There was nothing more defining in that elocution than saying, a "Santa Claus". Thor, Zeus or Ptolemy.
-
I simply love the way you do it "Michael-half dozen" or so. It's amazing how we put our faith in the unknow, even when it is pontificated by others without a clue, and only in theory at best. I wonder if a GOD could fit in there?

I'm not disagreeing with you just for the sake of doing so. But suppose the guy has an IQ of +150? Does it reall matter? Naa! People write books, essays and papers to get their word out. I disagree with half of what I read and see. Even of the other half, I am very skeptical. When these guys preach doom and gloom as Elmer Gantry did, I have to laugh. And when I read some of the latest hypotheses, I still have to laugh.
-
Doesn't work quite like that Mr. T. The guy with a sign standing on the corner may have an IQ just above snail. You? You are an intellectual with remarkable skills and power. Someone other than he may have written the sign because of his inadequacy. Feel blessed, not angry. The playing field? Even scooped to basement level, is of our own choosing.

DH, Evidently you are a great advocate of the Mr. Ed Show. You know, the "Horses A--" on MSNBC? Visceral hatred is hard to comprehend, coming from such a learned person. And he calls FOX NEWS folks a bunch of nut cases? C'mon! And really coach, you aren't showing me much, if you; (WE Scientists and Engineers") latch on to Bill's jargon? I'd love to have his money! Wouldn't you?

We know that zealots have been around presumably since Cain slew Abel. There are some things I personally feel very strong about myself. Gun control is one of them. You could make it a criminal offense with a sentence of life in prison for owning a gun, and people would still have them. As the old saying goes, "Guns don't kill people", people kill people. A ruthless person regardless of their reasononing, is going to fulfill their deed if at all possible. Sane, insane or simply mentally unbalanced; the results are the same. Sadly, we now have six families with an emptiness forever etched into their lives. And the perp, what about him? I'm sure he must have a family. At least a mother and father. How will society deal with him? Unless he's a blithering idiot, he will likely get the death sentence. But when? What will be the cost of prosecuting him? How long will we keep him locked up before he succumbs to a religion and society becomes the condemned?

Even if after two or three years of analysis and still finding the Higgs Boson to be a mystery; this LHC program isn't a failure. Much new knowledge will come from such research. JTFs are constantly needed, if only to spur the best minds in the world to focus on bigger and better things. I actually wish him luck!

When we can differeantiate the effects of something being dropping on earth as compared to being dropped on a "pulsar", perhaps better answers will be coming.

I remedially spoke with GOD this morning about the conflict we seem have in trying to understand his universe. He simply chuckled!

"Sure" GPS is Daaa? And there's nothin' wrong with having a different slant on things, but sadly; this guy is a basket case.

Don't!. Go into Medicine, Politics or the Clergy. But, if you insist on rocketry, go liquid. "Red fuming nitric acid" and UDMH. For short ranges under fifty miles and controllable, you can't beat it. Be careful of the (Unsymmetrical Dimethyl Hydrazine) though, it can be cancerous. Otherwise, have a nice big bang!
