If I start a small garden behind my "rented house" and it flourishes into a farm, other than paying my bills and taxes; do I owe anyone anything for my labor and good fortune? Absolutely not! If I want to communicate my bounty, I want it done at my discretion, not a government mandate saying that I must share it equally. And we wonder why there is such a static umbrella over our industries and country today?

"Ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country" (Inaugural speech 1961). What a powerful and prophetic declaration J.F. Kennedy made that day. Can each of us live up to such an expectation? I would hope so, but sincerely doubt it.

That really wasn't a very good explanation. And since this is strictly hypothetical on my part, you needn't believe a word of it. But with the anti energy puzzle not yet solved, I believe it has a lot to do with a cyclic effect on our universe. When we breathe, good air is taken into our lungs and distributed as needed throughout our blood vessels to maintain body function. Bad air is exhaled and the process starts again. When a BB occurs, it's similar to breathing. A new universe rushes out into a void, perhaps taking billions, if not trillions of years to do so? During this time, what had almost instantly become matter; gradually exhausts itself through osmosis to eventually return to the core of the universe as anti energy. It's a continuing process that began moments after the BB and will continue until the last bit of matter has gone through this process and extracted from the continuum. Only then will the next BB occur. "Wild? Crazy"? Perhaps. This ball of yarn can't even be considered hypothetical theory because I can't substantiate one word of it. Just something to think abou? -

Not to be discordant, but my thought is that our universe breathes much as we do. The difference is, where we respire at something like 12 to 20 times a minute, the universe takes a multiple of billions, if not trillions of years to take one breath. Our universe isn't something that will slow to a stop and start falling back into a new BB. It's something that has continuesly happened since the beginning and will continue to do so for many more billions of years. -
I do appreciate your response. Your understanding the situation is probably much bettr than mine. My problem is, I've been here so many years, it's rather difficult putting my feeling and thoughts on the front burner without seeing them come to a boil. From the dust bowl of the 30s to the cesspool of 9/11/01, there is little I haven't done or seen. But, are we running now like Lemmings toward the edge of a cliff that we can't avoid?

You're not stuck in any age group Jackson! Like me, you have concepts that disagree with the overall finds of some great mathematicians that I can barely comprehend, if at all. A physical reality, not math; is the only way I can rationalize something. Take a simple firecracker, or better yet, a nice round cherry bomb and detonate it on a clean, flat surface. You will immediately see a distinct pattern of the explosion. Of cource it will only be in width, height and time. Depth is the dimention you can't see because it dissipates into an atmosphere. When the BB happened, it did so in a pristine continuum of enviormental "nutrality", demanding it be spherically. A more perfect scenario could never have been designed. But, where did the BB come from? It is only a part of the continuing cycle. -
If you have read or seen the news today, you surely saw the article of a young teenager who killed himself after holding his friends and classmates hostage for several hours. How do we equate such tragedy with what is going on in the guerilla warfare arena? This kid was sick and suddently realized that his craziness was more than dismissive. Why? Had he killed even one of these classmates in this fit of depression, forgive me; but sane or insane; or had he even been my own son, I would have demanded swift and total retribution. And should it happen, that would apply doubly to yours truely!

Everything I rationalize about science is an accumulation of other sources. So everything I bring to this thread is a consensus of brilliant minds, not mine. But yes, I too believe there is a central core to our universe. All I can do is give you the data and it is your decision to believe it or not. Our universe is under constant change. Can anyone disagree? Some refer to it as entropy. Others as homology. I can't classify it as either since I have no idea. After reading everything I could possibly absorb these past few months, I believe our universe is an endless cycle, balanced somewhere?, in a continuum that is "absolute". The link will give you many different routes in which to look. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmological_constant -
It's sad commentary however you look at it. If the guy just wants to blow himself up, go right ahead. Yes, such unbridled hostility does upset me. And to kill innocent people in the process just for the sake of killing?, that's beyond my reason. I personally don't have the brain power to understand such barbarity. Innocence, regardles of where ever it is in this world is worth protecting. Like McVeigh, these guys just hate out of a malevolent demenor. Not crazy, just mean.

You're right John, only in the thread title was it used to let everyone know what the discussion was about. Not sure, but I my have used a time or two as part of a reply? Perhaps I should have said: Let's keep the word out of any future conversation? It's really an ugly expression. I really liked your last sentence, it does make a lot of sense.

I agree! This new kid, Mohamud? He should be tried in civilian court and not detained at Gitmo. He is a naturalized American citizen, even though foreign born. There is a distinct difference between him and Khalid. I really don't care if Khalid's trial is posponed indefinitely and he stays in detention forever. http://americaswatchtower.com/2010/11/14/khalid-sheikh-mohammed-to-be-detained-at-gitmo-indefinitely/ http://www.blogrunner.com/snapshot/D/3/7/portlands_christmas_tree_plot_who_is_mohamed_mohamud/ Can you imagine the heart ache of this father having to turn in his own son? A great writer-poet, Sir Walter Scott penned a proverbial verse I'v agreed with my entire life. Oh! What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to decieve. The word "Suicide" should be totally left out of any context. A Jihadi with skills and reason, who can find patsies willing enough to make the sacrifice, "Ain't gonna blow themselves up". Naa! Let's just call them bombers like we did the Weathermen and IRA. It takes a bit of the edge off.

You're right, I'm just an old hot head; but I'm rational enough to not want an "innocent person" punished. Thank goodness our legal system doesn't work that way. The suspected "brains" behind the 9-1-1 murders has been in jail now for several years. And even though our system is flawed, it is still likely the best one out there; and this guy will get justice.
-
So is suicide bombings. And this kid has had the propensity for being one these past four or five years.
-
Psychological sound, but much different when it comes to a practical application. The United States, Russia, China, and several other countries have the capability of eradicating this entire planet. Modern weaponry only means that many deaths can happen even in a simple dispute between neighbors. Suicide-bombings are more or less an impromptu thing with no one knowing when or where it will happen, other than the perpetrator. Cowards with asperations smile and stab you in the back. People with an agenda, whether right or wrong; suck up almost in the same manner. Be careful. Your friends are few!

Rarely do I find myself at a loss for words Moontanman, but I am totally awash in this blitzkrieg you've laid on me. Since I can't think of answers quickly enough or subtle to the point of making sense, I'll have to read this over a few times before replying. Tell me Cuthber, what in the world does run-of-the-mill criminals and terrorism have in common? Man, that's like washing the white and colored clothes together and using bleach only as a disinfect. Everything eventually becomes a dull shade of gray. Is that what our justice system is becoming, just a dull shade of gray? Spare me! Pioneer, you say; Liberals tend to embrace the philosophy of Christ, because it reflects wisdom? What "liberal" today can postulate such wise decision making?
-
That would be the humanitarian thing to do I suppose. But an acquaintance of mine gave me another solution I like even better. Let's say this guy fails to explode and we catch him. As you say, don't kill him, but give him life behind bars to contemplate his failure. Now the best part is; he gets a shower of "pigs blood" every morning for the rest of his natural life. Of course, he would then get a descent bath that same morning with soap and water before dining on his pork breakfast. I believe others espousing such martyrdom would quickly find another profession. And the 77 virgins? I don't believe they would think much in him in his afterlife. Even the one resembling Roseanne Barr.

Wish I could get back to an in between perspective, but you young guys are to sharp for me. I can only suppose my problem is that I'm neither a progressive or rightist. How the hell could I be so wrong? Someone out there has to have an answer. Most of what I know comes off the internet. There must be at least another million folks who know more about the subject than I do. Here's a thing on Tim McVeigh that may be of some help. The one blow his is longevity after conviction.. http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/08/if_timothy_mcveigh_had_been_a.html http://savannahnow.com/troy-davis/2010-08-24/judge-troy-davis-not-innocent-macphail-murder

I'm afraid you've totally lost me. But "Murder" in any capacity is diabolical, and you can't get away from that. Battlefield killings are murderous and heinous, but "not murder"; unless you kill a combatent once he has surrendered. Right now we live in a very precarious and confused world. Those we are in opposition to today don't seem to, or want to understand the rules.
-
A persn who meekly relinquishes their freedom while professing to be honorable and just, is neither.
-
What actually works now? That slap on the wrist? Are you saying then, the guy buying 'the hit" will go out and do the murder himself because the sentence will likely be only half as bad? I can't but that. Killing someone, you might legitimize to some extent. But out and out murder, it's diabolical, regardless of the reason.
-
Are you poking fun Mr. S? Yes, the bomber that gets it done can't be tried for anything, except in absentia. This guys job was to get it done and he failed! I think we should help him out and "perhaps" hang the Feds who duped him. No! But Jihad needs a God of some sort to perpetuate such religious fanaticism. That's the only reason it was used.
-
It's not revenge but simple justice. What say we give this guy another chance or two and he "eventually makes" it happen. What then, we lock him up for good?
-
Many of you may think something like this is my favorite kind of topic. But I assure you, there's nothing farther from the truth. I would much rather be talking about an Ice Cream Social, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas, New Years Eve, A Wedding, Birthday Party. Anything other than madness such as this. Can it be stopped? I doubt it. But it could be reined in to some degree if we tried. Tim McVeigh lived years and months too long after his horrific deed in Oklahoma. Another madman, who committed the Ft. Hood massacre will likely be around far longer than he should, for his "Unholy Deed". The Hinkley kid who gunned down Presisent Reagan? His life should have ended a couple weeks after the paper chase was completed. This Somali lad? Tomorrow, he should go away quietly and for good! Not locked up for a few years at our expense and turned loose. The list goes on and on. Years ago it was literally preached that: "The Pen was mightier than the Worrd". Yes, it was mightier then and remains so today with one exception. We have now come to realize it as nothing more than a big fat lie. The entire world also understands it as nothing more. We have simply learned to live with this lie. The day will come though when even the Do Gooders and Nay Sayers cry out: "ENOUGH"! Cute kid, but then so was McVeigh, Hinlkey, Son of Sam, etc. To me though, thought, plot and the act of committal are the same as if the actual deed had been carried out. Insanity, Schizophrenia? Does it really matter? We don't lock up bad or crazy horses and mad dogs do we? We shoot them, right?! http://www.voanews.com/english/news/Somali-Born-Teen-Plots-Car-Bombing-in-US-Northwest-110902949.html

Pardon me, I should have said "link". Like this one, there are many hypotheticals; but fact?
-
Trying to grasp a single meaning from the many scientific experiments today leaves me at a total loss. Look at the link below and tell me, is it for real? I personally hope so! Scientifically, hypotheticals abound in many sciences and most are considered gospel. If not scientific, they means nothing. Look and this and think of it as a possible road to discovery. The heading as presented, I'll wait for an honest and civil question?
