    Shari'a Law

#8 10 October 2010 - 03:25 AM jimmydasaint Atom: I think Bernard Shaw was an intelligent and articulate man, who had many sensible things to say. However, I believe that what you are trying to do, rigney, is to stir up some Islamophobia and 'test the waters' by posting about Bernard Shaw. If you are old enough, I assume that you would have hated Communism with the same fervour when it was popular to do so. I just want to live and let live. I don't see the need to post in Ethics. What was Shaw's ethical dilemma? Shaws dilemma? None. A great intellectual. But before accusing me of being a hate monger with Islamophobia, I suggest you take a look at the bits below. And your "Live and Let Live"? On another planet, perhaps. Stoning in Iran: This happened less than 20 years ago. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=117_1269394282 Just weeks ago. Taliban execute pregnant woman in Afghanistan after 200 lashes HERAT: The Taliban publicly flogged and then executed a pregnant Afghan widow by emptying three shots into her head for alleged adultery, police said on Monday. Bibi Sanubar, 35, was kept in captivity for three days before she was shot dead in a public trial on Sunday by a local Taliban commander in the Qadis district of the rural western province Badghis. The Taliban accused Sanubar of having an “illicit affair” that left her pregnant. She was first punished with 200 lashes in public before being shot, deputy provincial police chief Ghulam Mohammad Sayeedi told AFP. “She was shot in the head in public while she was still pregnant,” Sayeedi said. The execution is a grim reminder of the Taliban's harsh six-year rule from 1996 to 2001 in Afghanistan. The radical extremists staged public stonings or lashings of those found to have committed adultery or sex outside marriage. The then-Taliban government would also chop off the hands and feet of those accused of theft and robbery. Local Taliban commander Mohammad Yousuf carried out the execution, Sayeedi said, before the woman's body was dumped in an area under government control. The man who allegedly had an affair with Sanubar has not been punished. Head of Badghis provincial council Mohammad Nasir Nazaari confirmed the execution and said the Qadis district is entirely under Taliban control.
  2. Since I am more "right leaning" than left, perhaps someone can tell me why? I am church mouse poor, but proud as a "Nabob". Can anyone tell me why? Is there any truth to the below, or have I missed something? http://apathetic-usa.com/

I honestly didn't mean for it to come off like that. Here's a quote from someone in another forum that probably makes more sense than mine ever would. Quote: ”We are one of very few countries without a national language. If I could go back in time, I would have asked our founding fathers to put it in the Constitution as a requirement of citizenship. We waste too much money to duplicate documents for government and business. We think too lightly of language and its significance. Language is what binds us together and makes us one nation.” — John (Rocklin, CA) Unquote. This would not mandate 'English Only' be spoken. If that were the case, my own dialect would likely prohibit me from getting a drivers license. No!, people of a specific ethnicity are going to speak the language of that area come hell or high water, and as they should. But to be multilingual in our schools and laws? It should not be necessary or allowed. One nation, one people, one government, and one set of rules for all. I've been on Medicare for thirteen years and see both my G.P. and Cardeologist three times yearly, costing me personally, $79.00 each trip. The governments cost? I have no idea. Guess I'm just lucky. And like you, each of them check my weight, pulse, blood pressure, listen to my lungs and ask me how I'm doing? Sure wish one of them could give me an answer rather than a question. And to think, if I could have afforded going to med school instead of the army, "My oh My". Oh! and when you do retire, it cuts deeply into the budget for "scotch", gin, bourbon, vodak and rum. Remy Martin V.S.O.P. is a thing of the past, so I went primarily to scotch.

    Miracles

While the other answers are pretty much reality, I believe you've hit it right on the head Junkman. I say this only because I quit gambling in 1960 because of a miracle. Or perhaps it might even be considered an anti-miracle? Some friends and I were at a race track in New Mexico. "Sunland Park". I had never bet on the horses before and everyone wanted to help me. Declining, I bet 7 races in which every horse I bet on, finished dead last. A couple of them may yet be out there on the track. I never bet again! I ask you, was that a miracle? Oh! one of my friends won $3,000.00 that day, connecting on two races. Something called the "Big Quinella"?

    Miracles

What are miracles? Do such things actually exist? Are they simply prenomena, the act of an alien benefactor, or a benevolent GOD? These questions are ones a person might get caught up in, in their need to reply. But is there a straight forward answer?

I don't believe it could be explained better. If I had absolutely nothing and could find no work at all, I would sweep the sidewalk in front of your store, or the pathway up to your home daily until you noticed, and paid me with at least a sandwich and a bowl of soup. Since Sak's 5th Avenue has never impressed me, I could find a good "hand me down" shop in practically any town or city.
  7. I could sense that you were offended. There was no intent to do so. I'm an American nothing more, or less. After almost sixty years I still speak a vernacular tha most hill folks cant understand. I apologise to your Mom and you if I've disparaged her in any way.

I've gotta be careful Jackson. I'm very easily led into situations that I should definitely steer clear of because of my ignorance. I had no intent of getting on anyones case, especially the Scotch Lad. The thing simply got out of hand. There is no nationality in this world that I detest or hate. People? Some people, I just don't like; probably no more than they like me. I simply have a problem trying to placate a situation that our government should never have let happen in the first place. Thanks for the push, and I'm just sorry that some folks don't understand my reasoning.
  9. You should have perhaps listened more closely to iNow's video of "Sir or Madam" above? Had nothing to do with Islam. But your statement, "I just want to live and let live": would be a fantastic thing Jimmy, if the world actually functioned like that. And Ethics and Morals? They are like two halves of a pecan occupying the same shell.
  10. I just talk too damn much and tromp on toes before I think.
  11. I've been told of the process many times and understand it not to be the falling that breaks your neck, but the sudden stop at the end of the rope, and the quick jerk! But then, even a second to think about eternity is total tragedy in a teens life? Much too long.
  12. We may never become the closest of friend because of my past comments, but your short reply says it all.
  13. While reading the morning news, I came across this article. I'll not comment on the issue because I'm very reactive and would rather have the reasoning of others, than mine. The old connect was pulled, below is a new one. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2010-03-31/life-and-death-at-suicide-high/
  14. Sir George Bernard Shaw in 'The Genuine Islam,' Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936. "If any religion had the chance of ruling over England, nay Europe within the next hundred years, it could be Islam." "I have always held the religion of Muhammad in high estimation because of its wonderful vitality. It is the only religion which appears to me to possess that assimilating capacity to the changing phase of existence which can make itself appeal to every age. I have studied him - the wonderful man and in my opinion far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity." "I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness: I have prophesied about the faith of Muhammad that it would be acceptable to the Europe of tomorrow as it is beginning to be acceptable to the Europe of today."

  16. Was just yanking your chain a bit guy. Hey, a little 'wee' on your cuff isn't a bad thing if it's done with levity, know what I mean? As far as E.T.s,? There may be a universe full of them. Couldn't even speculate? Or maybe even just around the corner in the next solar system from ours, who knows? I just don't believe it's "Soylent Green" time either. If they are smart enough to get here and wanted to use us for that, we'd be gone by now. Anyway, they wouldn't have to come sneaking around, but Just open up the speakers and yell, "WE"RE" here, and start herding us in. It's religious nut cases like those below that trouble me. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/05/AR2010100505911.html
  17. Do you suppose those sightings of UFOs might be somewhat like the "Miracle of Fatima" where those kids saw the miracle happen, yet no one would believed them? Sort of makes you wonder?
  18. Wish I could give you something conclusive Jim, but I just cant. And I'm sorry that all popular western media seems to convey a bit, to a lot of propaganda, which it does!. But rest assured, westerners are not the only ones addicted to such skulduggary? If you have a government, you have deception. Google up Owen Bennett Jones, whom I believe is Enlish. He has a good understanding of casualties in Iraq from the beginning of the conflict 'til the present time. The meaning of ethics? what else could you call this post? And I believe the term is: Quote Mining,
  19. I wonder what happened there? It's been said that four or five of these alien bodies were flown in from Rozwell, Texas to Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, back in the late forties. A lot of folks swear to have seen them and honestly, I worked with a guy who would take an oath that he had seen them also. Could it be something like GOD? A lot of people see and talk to him, but no one actually believes it other than the nuts themselves. Ah well, who knows?

You are absolutely right! No one can, nor should they remotely think that President Obama or his immediate predecessor are entirely to blame for the mess this country is in today. There are a lot of faces in that crowd and many other politicians who's feet would cover that "Charter" even if it were the size of a dozen football fields. And that applies to both sides of the aisle. How did Jesus put it: Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Wish I could refute your well intended argument, but I can't. I'm neither a politician, an economist or wealthy. But I wouldn't mind giving up 20% of what I have, if everyone else would do the same, including those having what they consider, "nothing". But as I said earlier, it's easy to commit everything to a cause, if you have nothing to give. But a person with wealth doesn't necessarily feel as you or I might, and I can't blame them. Why work a lifetime to accomplish something, and simply have to give it away?

    The Forgotten Man

This post may well belong in the political forum. But personally, I think it's a shame that politicians and not builders and workers have put us in the position that we are today. Why are we having to spend ten to twelve trillion dollars over the next few years to balance our national debt? Why is such a debt there anyway? Where did it come from? And how is it going to be paid? Why such expenses? Honestly, I believe our country has become politically and "morally" bankrupt.
  23. I'm probably as controversial or more so than anyone I've met on this forum. Perhaps I have a death wish to be thrown off? Not sure? Question is, why such disagreement and controversy? All of us have our druthers! Me?, I would much rather be rich than poor. A lot more healthy as opposed to being ill. A lot smarter? Well! The internet logon below will give you something to think about for the rest of your life. I honestly don't believe Jon was painting anything to disparage our present day leader, but morally; something politicians have been destroying for years. So, when history judges us, what will they think of our successes? It's easy for a man who has absolutely nothing, to give away all that he has. It's a different thing for a person who has worked a lifetime to obtain comfort of some degree, only to be expected, or even demanded to give it all away. You be the judge? http://therealbarackobama.wordpress.com/2010/09/12/jon-mcnaughton-the-forgotten-man/

Sorry you feel that way Amigo!. So, being from Kentucky; you assume to know my type? I think our present government is doing you a disservice by leaving you out in the hinterland when they need you so desperately. I'm only kidding! You're angry at something I said. When you reach my age I'll have probably been gone from here fifty years or so. I hope then you can look back and correct some of our mistakes. Majana! Yes!, I'm troubled. A nuclear operator?, "A Nuclear operator"? Would you run something involving that synopsis by me one more time? Please, I'm intrigued.

Thanks for that bit of edification since I need it from time to time. Hopefully I don't give you the impression of trying to be overly educated, which I'm not. We'd both know that to be BS. I'm a Hill Blly, nothing more, nothing less; and proud of it. Your Mom and I could probably share the same glove. But at ten years old, I see no reason why English should have been so hard for her to learn? I have had and have friends, who stole away from oppression back in the fifties and didn't speak a word of English when they came to this country. School, perseverence, and just plain, "I"m gonna do it" made them good citizens.
