  1. One I've noticed: I log on to the forums and see there are lots of unread threads. I close the window without reading any. I open SFN back up and everything before the time that I closed the window is now marked read.

    Mars by 2010?

They would need to pay a few billion for that one can of coke to alleviate NASA's financial problems.
  3. Two questions: 1) PM's are the place to arange a match, right? 2) Will there be any sort of ratings system instated so I can know who's good and who's more like me?
  4. Ineteresting, but I've found that the mindless work assigned in school takes too much time to be able to do the above. When you skip the work and go learn something on your own, you get in trouble. When you do the work, you learn less.
  5. Something I found quickly. Be back if I find anything else.
  6. Is this to suggest that those with answers add more than those with questions?
  7. That list plus Bush. He's still an option right?
  8. Let me know if this is too off topic to continue: How is it that so many common terms (inteligence, life, science...) are disagreed upon in their definition? Shouldn't there be a universal definition for those? But no two people can seem to agree. Surely there must have been a definition to the word when it started, but somehow got lost. Or is it just that as our knowledge expands, the old definitions are useless? But then is that to say we will never have a solid definition for these words again?
  9. Not if you were going for humor that wasn't a bad choice.
  10. I'm now starting calc thanks to dave's online tutorial and will be getting more in depth this year at school.
  11. The more outlandish, the more apt people are to try and find out what it is.
  12. Think how complicated particle accelerators must be to men fighting with sticks and stones.

    Living forever

I think mooey was getting at this, but being immortal wouldn't just mean living like we do today but forever. Most of what we do today is based on the fact that we don't live forever. So lifestyles would change a lot. Procrastination would be huge, for one. Why do today what you can put off for the next thousand years.
  14. I liked it best when clicking the big SFN logo on the top took me back to the forum index rather than the home page, but that's more of an oppinion than problem.
  15. Calling me behind the times seems a bit ironic.

    Car Stuff

Good answers. Glad I don't have to wonder every time I sit at the light down the road from my house. Thanks guys.
  17. You can read just about anything, but the issue is having to stop and think it out. I don't really mind, but it can get inconvenient when you're reading a properly worded post and then have to transition into internet slang, especially when you're not used to the latter.

    Car Stuff

I thought of brakes also, but the difference is that there is the action of pushing the brake pedel and that probably triggers something to disconnect the axel until you take your foot off the brake. But we know that when you don't have your foot on either pedel the axel is connected, because the car normaly moves. So why the care doesn't move is still a mystery.
  19. So nothing can ever come after the bar and still be considered correct? Saying something like "[math].\overline{9}8[/math] is the closest you can come to 1" is nonsense?
  20. Not easily. Exactly what do you want to know and what do you currently know? From there myself and other members could probably give a crash course. To learn stuff well, though, you're going to have to sit down with someone who knows it and just talk for a while.
  21. I'm a bit confused by #5 on the list: Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation. Is a book about punctuation really selling well?
  22. You are right, but that's not AI. AI would be YOU creating something that has the ability to MAKE ITSELF more inteligent than you. (Substituted caps for italics just because you did).

    Car Stuff

Just something I was thinking about: First, the car's an automatic. Don't know if that matters or not. Second, like all cars, it moves forward (albeit slow) when in drive and you're not touching either the gas or brake pedels. Third, this is assumably because the engine is turning and thus the axel and wheels turn. Fouth, when on a hill of certain incline, the car doesn't move either forward or backwards despite it being in drive and niether the gas or brake pedels are being touched. So, if the engine is turning the axel on the level ground, how does it not turn it on the incline? The engine has to be turning something. It can't know when it's sitting on a hill and then stop turning. But then again, what is it turning because the wheels aren't moving forward or backwards? Or are the gears slipping? If that's so, is that bad for the car?
  24. Please do adress why it's not correct notation. I can't guarentee I'll understand what you're saying, but now I'm interested.
