  1. I think the wachowski brothers made a great trilogy. Just 3 films ffs.. they are films, you watch them.. they end. Whats all the bashing for? Its a story, I havent seen another story the same. It had great special effects that showed ( to me ) how far weve come in terms of effects. The Neo Vs Many Smiths fight in Reloaded was genius in terms of computer abilities to date. People can argue " yeah you could tell in bits it wasnt him and just computer graphics ffs" but thats just ignorance. Its a special effect, some people created those effects, all that time and thought into creating an amazing display of graphic animation.
  2. i keep getting 110,544 for the 49 version ( one to win a tenner ) if its 49 balls and you need 3 i work it like this; You need 1 number so thats 1/49 in getting that. Then you need another so thats 1/48 ( as youve already got 1 number ) then another, so thats 1/47. 49 x 48 x 47 = 110,544 where do you get 134 from?
  3. theres an article in NewScientist about this topic this week, how sex is so common in living creatures. It goes onto say how a good idea would be that genes are more easily carried down the "family tree". In asexual reproduction its essentially 1 set of genes being passed on. And even a fabolous set of genes 10 thousand years ago would hardly be likely to be up to scratch today. If they are mixed however, with "survival of the fittest" occuring.. the product will be healthier young. Constantly changing enviroments give sexual species an advantage.. being able to choose the partner that they think will help their young cope in X or Y environment best.
  4. you said that like you were introducing yourself on university challenge Dave
  5. In the middle of a book on the life of Paul Erdös, an eccentric mathmatician who loved numbers from an age of 4 till his death in 1996 at the age of 83. Great read about a great mathmatician even if he was mad as cheese. Its got me learning about maths again.. first time since school Books entitled "The man who loved only numbers" by Paul Hoffman

    Hi

i have monday and tuesday off so i made the most of it
  7. its the process of the states solid > liquid > gas > plasma depending on how much energy the particles have determines their state. A why for water retention? at a guess i would say because it will allow the body to go longer without water, that or in the case of females.. water will be available for the child while its in her body.

    Hi

Just this evening registered here and thought id say hello. Im Emmon from Lincolnshire in the Uk, a 20 year old metal worker and graphic designer. Been interested in science since school as it always interested me the idea that if i knew the ins and outs.. laws and building blocks of as much as i could... that i could really resourceful. That as soon as ive got the knowledge im going to be able to apply it everywhere i want. I went to college ( studying computers ) after school but left after a year. I found i learnt best when i could learn what i wanted, when i wanted. Didnt fit that well into the classroom "schedule" of progressively learning more about x subject for 3 months, then switching etc. So now i work full time and read in my spare time. Its usually on Physics but not so much the speculated and still uncomfirmed theories. I like the visible facts that make sense to me. ( good old Feynman ) Hope to be of use /wave
  9. Every Religion is born to (in some way) calm peoples fear of death. Be it an afterlife, reincarnation, heaven etc. No-ones ever going to be able to stand up and say that religions are false and gods and higher plains dont exist because its irrelevant. With all the wars created from clashes in belives i think people are missing the point thats its not the case believing in X or Y religion is good, but that you believe full stop.
  10. In our distant past, when we lived and hunted in groups, every member of the group had a decent night's sleep. To ensure this happenned we all needed to go to sleep at the same time as each other. Yawning is a subconscious signal to others that we are tired and want to go to sleep and so they must do so too. Also, I think it equalises the pressure in the head.
  11. Plasma consists of a colection of free moving electrons and ions ( atoms that have lost electrons ). Constant energy is needed to strip electrons from atoms to make the plasma otherwise it will "recombine" into a gas. Ordinary solids, liquids, and gases are both electricaaly neutral and/or too cool or dense to be in a plasma state. Water retention is exactly what it sounds like.. Retained water. Water kept in the body. Oh.. and women dont like it
  12. There is a soft palate at the rear of your throat. If these tissues flutter and come into contact with each other during sleep.. you snore I know there are treatments for snoring which involves either removal of some of the tissue, or spraying it with a chemical that causes the tissue to stiffen. Everyone has different sizes / shapes of these tissues which is why there is not some "universal snore sound" P.S Hi everyone
