Thankfully, that's not true. We still look after the elderly and those with disabilities that mean that their contribution will be negligible or nil, and we do so at considerable cost.

From time to time, lightning melts dirt. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fulgurite Some components of dirt would burn off or decompose, but the leftover material is essentially rock. Rocks melt, and if this wiki page is right then they melt at temperatures of 700 to 1200 C. That's comfortably within the range of a furnace. I did once see a video of some research where a team of vulcanologists anted to study how molten lava flows. The realise it was much easier (and safer) to get rock and melt it in a portable metal casting furnace, than to got and look at a volcano.

I'd have got it quicker than the solution given via that link. While I had my eyes shut, I'd realise that, assuming the test is fair, then it must be symmetrical with respect to interchange of any two candidates. So, my cross must be the same colour as either of the other candidates (and their crosses must also be the same colour as eachother). To be a fair test, all 3 candidates must have the same colour cross. So I only have to blurt out the colour of the first cross I see in order to win.

Which is why you sometimes hear of women being described as the biggest minority in the world. There are a number of groups of people who are generally denied the opportunity to exercise authority- simplistically, they are "persecuted". The fact that other groups suffer similarly to women still doesn't mean you should focus on "what women (or blacks or gays or whatever) can do to avoid getting attacked". So, yes, strictly speaking iNow was careless with his wording when he said this If, on the other hand, he had said "This victim risk mitigation response only happens when assaults on women or members of other persecuted/ pressed groups are involved." he would have been much more nearly perfectly correct. And the fact is that such "sloppy use of language" is commonplace- even in scientific discussion. It's understandable in a a thread about women that he mentioned them alone. So, in fairness to iNow, I think your comment really does reinforce his broader point.

It depends. Has everyone got to grips with the fact that, if the victim does not do those things, the attack is still entirely the attacker's fault, and not even slightly the victims fault? And, as a corollary of that does everyone understand that there is no justification anywhere in the legal process for: Asking about the victim's history Asking what the victim was wearing Asking if the victim had been drinking and so on.

Are you sure? Stephen Miller seems to want to remove power from the courts and hand it to the government. And it seems that in recent years only Obama and Clinton actually got close to reducing government or maintaining spending rather than raising it. https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=https://www.mercatus.org/sites/default/files/Chart1-Spending-Per-Capita-vero.png&imgrefurl=https://www.mercatus.org/publication/rise-capita-federal-spending&h=849&w=1170&tbnid=hrWrrxz1rLmcVM:&tbnh=152&tbnw=211&usg=__yBvla-rlHtDEfNuAOtiLz-gzF9U%3D&vet=10ahUKEwjt_4-X-9TYAhVFWBQKHY8tBO8Q9QEIODAA..i&docid=9yIyxFlk0yBOoM&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjt_4-X-9TYAhVFWBQKHY8tBO8Q9QEIODAA The republicans say they want to do that, but they actually just transfer the money to corporations, rather than people. There's a similar picture in the UK where the Right wing (Conservative) government berate the Left (Labour) for borrowing too much, but in fact the Tories borrowed more in the last parliament than all Labour governments added together; ever. So you need to look at what they actually do- rather than what they say they do.

I already answered that, albeit in more general terms. As far as I can tell, nobody said that. If you think they did, please quote where they did so. I think that everyone, male or female, young or old should be educated in the basics of cybersecurity. I don't see how it's very relevant to the thread. Yes, and , once again, I think that everyone should be told that.

Oh yes they are. https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/revenge-pornography-guidelines-prosecuting-offence-disclosing-private-sexual It is, at least, equally dishonest to say that the opposing argument is not part of the ******* problem. Ignoring that fact doesn't help either And, since that's part of the terms that you signed up to, they are allowed to do that. However the police and courts will still prosecute the thief for theft because, it's really still their fault that they stole.

Well, there plainly is, or nobody would make them... In reality, both sorts of connectors are used as the "thing stuck on the wall that's connected to the aerial and which you link to your telly". If you have one of these https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/GU7081.html then you need a different cable from that shown earlier. If you had that sort of cable, but you chose to move the telly to the other side of the room, and the cable wasn't long enough then you would need a cable with a plug at one end, and a socket at the other (like the one in the wiki page). I called it an extension cable for a very dull reason- it performs the same purpose as the other things that are called extension cables eg https://www.maplin.co.uk/c/household-diy/power-cables-supplies/extension-cables-reels https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=usb+extension+lead&tag=googhydr-21&index=aps&hvadid=223921108510&hvpos=1t1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=18137737755658389798&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9046552&hvtargid=kwd-92242925&ref=pd_sl_2ex6mnlbdw_e https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extension-UGREEN-Auxiliary-Headphones-Speakers-Black/dp/B00LM4ON3I/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1515842141&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=headphone+extension+cable&psc=1 They have a plug at one end and a socket at the other. None of this actually helps the OP.

There may be a reason I'm not listening to you. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TV-ARIEL-LEAD-Digital-Freeview-Extension-Aerial-tv-cable-3M-Male-To-Female/322992271109?hash=item4b33d6ef05:g:6bwAAOSwR6JZeOFX If I want to make the cable from my antenna longer what I need is a cable with a socket at one end and a plug at the other. Think about it. Would an "extension cable" with one of these at each end be any use? https://www.screwfix.com/p/white-plug-13a/17967?tc=CT6&ds_rl=1248181&ds_rl=1245250&ds_rl=1249481&gclid=CjwKCAiA1uHSBRBUEiwAkBCtzSVhK7aJHamPiOhGG0JEuO2bjmhBlTwXN4Tci3A-WQuJIaSN4FN04xoCxkQQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CKrcrfvL09gCFYWNGwodU0kA-A How about a cable with the corresponding socket at each end? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ex-Pro-Single-Extension-socket-without-White/dp/B002BZXDF6/ref=pd_lpo_vtph_60_tr_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6TX55SDAFW6AHSFC63Y7 Or would it be more sensible to have a plug at one end, and a socket at the other?
-
Not to me it doesn't. For exactly the reasons you have put forward.
-
I'm waiting to hear from the OP. The pic from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belling-Lee_connector shows a plug + socket: my guess is they are the two ends of an extension lead. And, very roughly, the pins in the middle look like they are about 2.2 and 2.9 mm
-
I'm fairly sure that the pic he provided shows the two ends of an extension lead. It's a plug and a socket. Bingo!

Just a quick question: If lots of attacks take place in dark alleys, and we say that it's the victim's fault for going down that alley, how come nobody mentioned that it's the attacker's fault for being in that alley? Only one person's actions made going down a dark alley into a "risky" choice. What else do phrases like "she was asking for it dressing like that" do?

Today I learned how difficult it is to keep count of the zeroes. 299 792 458 m / s It confuses matters even further when you realise that some folks use the , where others use the . to delineate the decimal point and the thousands separator. In the UK 343 m/s is a bit faster than 300.000 m/s The speeds are about 3E2 and 3E8 m/s. Sound is roughly a million times slower than light

Thanks for that. Am I the only one who thinks this thread would have gone better if the OP had included pictures?

OK, since I'm the one who said it, perhaps I should explain what it means. In an attack there is clearly wrong done to someone. It's the attacker's fault. If you say "but the victim shouldn't have been there/ worn that/ done that" then you are seeking to transfer at least some of the blame to the victim. That's the wrong thing to do because it is never the victim's fault; not even a little bit. The blame lies with the criminal. It's also wrong because, when you transfer blame to the victim you transfer it away from where it properly lies- with the perpetrator. And in doing that you reduce the blame attributed to the attacker. If you are successful enough in that endeavour, you let the rapist off the hook. If that's not what you are trying to do, then don't try to say it was, in any way, down to the victim. If, on the other hand you say that it was, for example, "poor risk management by the victim" then you are transferring the blame to them. That's the point at which I ask if you are seeking to transfer the responsibility for the attacker's actions away from the attacker. In particular I ask if you are seeking to let them off the hook. OK I should have said "let them off the hook, at least in some degree".

Is it just me? -
This is not rocket science. It is the fault of person A then it is not the fault of person B.
-
Are you somehow unable to distinguish between a bus which does not have intent, (and can not be responsible for an incident) and a rapist who does have intent and is therefore to blame for the incident? Since the fault lies with the attacker, it does not, in fact, lie with the victim. Are you trying to let rapists off the hook?

Just a thought; a singer or actor would learn their words. https://www.thepoke.co.uk/2018/01/09/donald-trump-did-john-redwood-trying-sing-american-national-anthem/
