  1. "I remember seeing an illustration of a vacuum tube. It had a battery/ power supply connected to the VT. The VT conducted electricity and then sent signals throughout the computer." I think your memory may be letting you down. The only VT I ever saw in a computer was the CRT screen.
  2. IIRC the mho is a bit out of fashion, having been replaced by Siemens. The conductance would be measured in mho per metre. The variations with temperature and salinity look plausible. I'm not really in a position to check.
  3. No. Seawater presents about 0.25 ohm .metres It's ohms times metres not ohms divided by metres.
  4. No it isn't.
  5. Who said anything about equality? Most of the major religions are stuffed full of hate, but secularism only throws it up occasionally. There's the run-of-the-mill contempt that many politicians have for people but even that's not the same thing.
  6. Most religions seem to think it does. We re not going to help the next generation by teaching hatred in the way that religion does.(It's not the only one but it still does it)
  7. It's not exactly new "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on." Winston Churchilll
  8. It's like swimming in treacle, but here goes. That page defines "wisdom". There are several definitions. None of them is anything close to the same meaning as "contentment" So, it's clear that, for you to say is nonsense- you are just redefining words to try to defend your bizarre point of view. However, even if you do conflate wisdom and contentment, you are still barking up the wrong tree. Because your original claim was " I DO believe the bible to contains wisdom that seems to elude secularism. ... bible, was never intended to be taken literally, it's a collection of stories and parables designed to teach other people how to be content; " and that makes no sense because people don't need to be taught to be content and you have yet to get anywhere close to showing what this " wisdom that seems to elude secularism." might be. (Not to mention the absurdity of teaching people to be content by hating each other and, in some cases, themselves because, for example of their sexuality.) So, once again What's the wisdom (or even contentment) that eludes secular people?
  9. Wrong way round. If one person finds contentment without religion that's enough to show that you don't need religion to be content- which gainsays the original absurd claim. Did you even read the page you cited? It doesn't say contentment = wisdom. Only your weird redefinition says that.
  10. If you have to start redefining words to make your point, you should probably accept that you have no valid point to make. However, if you can show what wisdom or contentment is contained in the Bible(s) but which isn't to be found in the secular world, that would be interesting. That would be relevant if the original claim has been that "some small number of people need religion to be content"; it wasn't.
  11. People will read what you said - here's a reminder of your hypothesis- and don't forget that it's a verbatim quote- " I DO believe the bible to contains wisdom that seems to elude secularism." and, re my post asking "What wisdom is available in religion, but not science?" You said " None at all, I've never suggested otherwise." They will then make their own judgements. Yes you can; because they scream at you. There's a difference between the idea that "contentment is innate" and "contentment needs to be learned". Where do you learn it from? Clearly Dimreeper's suggestion that you learn it from the Bible(s) is absurd.
  12. Imagine building a model house out of lego bricks. The take it apart and look at all the bricks. Where did the "house" go? "house" isn't a property of the bricks, but of their arrangement and interactions. "Life" isn't a property of the atoms, but of their arrangement and interaction. So, yes, afterlife is theoretically possible- but unimaginably unlikely.
  13. He never seemed to me to be acting as anything but a buffoon, yet you elected him...
  14. It would need to tell the difference between "shot near elephant" and "shot directed at elephant"- which would be tricky.
  15. At the risk of being absurdly off topic, your hypothesis was " I DO believe the bible to contains wisdom that seems to elude secularism. ... bible, was never intended to be taken literally, it's a collection of stories and parables designed to teach other people how to be content; " which is plainly absurd as discussed. In respect of my question which was Your reply seems, frankly, dishonest.
  16. Fundamentally, if people are too stupid to leave the window open a bit, they are not going to understand the advantage of having a fan or two; so they won't buy it. Baffles will struggle a bit at 70 MPH.
  17. You were- at length. You failed. http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/104032-does-almighy-god-view-all-people-in-the-same-light/page-6
  18. If you make a bag that's narrower than its height it will fall over easily. If you make one that's wider then its height it will be stable. However, imagine making a bag by fixing a handle to the middle of the top of a pizza box. If you think it's a workable idea- try it. Then get some sort of rucksack.
  19. You say I'm ignoring the fact that blood is everywhere. Well, I know that it is. And I know that doesn't matter. Not least because the pH of blood is different in different places- as I already pointed out. I'm not the one ignoring the fact that all the bits of the body are interrelated. You are. You are ignoring the fact that the lungs and kidneys are part of the body and can control blood pH. You say ""Extremely high or low pH values generally result in complete loss of activity for most enzymes. pH is also a factor in the stability of enzymes. As with activity, for each enzyme there is also a region of pH optimal stability."" Well, that's true- and it's the reason why the body puts some effort into maintaining that ideal pH. "You should know this. I don't know how many times I said this in my messages. One has to change back the pH of blood to its original value or range of values." Plain wrong. You just don't let it change (meaningfully) in the first place. So, yes, you have said it many times. It's still wrong. And this " And in chronic diseases it is possible by following a well-adjusted vegan diet." is just stupid. Vegans die of chronic diseases. "This is not far away from the statement, that the pH is extremely important, not to say the most important measure in order to understand why the body works fine or not. And I believe you cannot deny that the pH's are interrelated or can you? " Well, there's a reasonable argument that maintaining oxygen, glucose and osmolality are comparably important. That's exactly why the body does a damned good job of keeping them constant. You are arguing against yourself.
  20. How do you know? Could it be because someone did an experiment where they measured it before and after cooking? I wonder how people learn to do experiments like that. Incidentally this is about the only thing where G Bush and I agree.
  21. You already tried that one. You were unable to explain: That it "teaches contentment" by teaching hatred which makes no sense. and That contentment (as displayed by a sleeping baby) doesn't need to be taught.
  22. I wish I lived somewhere where religion was "nothing to do with" me; but I don't.
  23. And that's what Dimreeper does. It is rather like trying to play chess with a pigeon — it knocks the pieces over, craps on the board, and flies back to its flock to claim victory. Same as here http://www.scienceforums.net/topic/104032-does-almighy-god-view-all-people-in-the-same-light/page-2
