"'s people that train them to be nasty. I've known loads of them and only one or two was a bit grumpy and snappy but that was down to the owner." It is possible to ban some dogs and not possible to ban stupidity. Which should they try to do?

I doubt that you are nearly as sure of that as he is. -
Do meditative people experience flow states easier?
John Cuthber replied to MindfulEnt's topic in General Philosophy
Define "states of flow" -
I was giving him the benefit of the doubt on that one. It could also have been glass or ceramic or whatever, But I'd still bet on steel. It hardly matters.

Black Lives Matter Creating More Division?
John Cuthber replied to ModernArtist25's topic in Politics
"Education will work because if black people finish high school instead of dropping out and if they go to college, they are more likely to find a decent job so they wouldn’t have to resort to robbing or other crimes." They will only get jobs if someone educates the employers. "They will less likely to be arrested and get into altercations with police. " Only if someone teaches the police that not all crooks are black. "A white person being gunned down unarmed is less exciting as a black man being gunned down unarmed." Really? Why? Anyway- it's not difficult to find the stats. And the stats show that the dead guys are seldom white. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/jun/01/the-counted-police-killings-us-database So, you are right- "you can’t really believe everything you see in the media." -
Black Lives Matter Creating More Division?
John Cuthber replied to ModernArtist25's topic in Politics
Just a thought: In a country that has the death penalty for murder and where cops are seen to murder citizens (black or not)is the call for "dead cops" entirely unreasonable? How many have been executed? How many have even been jailed? Also, you seem to have missed a vital aspect of this "they will less likely to resort to robbing and murdering(although blacks make up 13% of population, they commit half of the crime in the US, according to Bureau of Justice report)" There's no way to know what the real ratio of crimes by blacks: crimes by whites is- especially if the police are more likely to investigate ones where a black man is accused. I strongly suspect that black people are disproportionately represented among criminals- but I'd not want to put a figure on it. And in a country that has poor welfare provision and which keeps cutting back on it, the people who struggle to get jobs are going to be forced into criminality to make a living. Is that their fault, or the fault of those who won't consider them for a job because they heard that "most crime is due to blacks"? Or is it the fault of people who told them that? Once you have a situation where some (small) fraction of the police are targeting black people for little other than being black it's difficult to see how much more division you could create. -
".Is that all possible...??" No.
-
No, it doesn't. That's why a lot of people have been making jokes about this thread. IQs were originally intended to help find those who were struggling in their edducation so that they could receive additional help. They are just about fit for that purpose- but probably nothing else. Ever heard of a negative correlation?

So,it got hot enough to get steel to burn. Big deal! Try putting some steel wool in a candle flame. You say you measured the temperature- how? And, even if the figure you cite about 1650C is correct it's not nearly as hot as a typical thermite reaction up to 2500C.

Careers in science outside of being a professor at a University?
John Cuthber replied to Tampitump's topic in The Lounge
Very few scientists go on to become professors or lecturers. Imagine a university science dept. It takes on say a thousand students each year and they end up being scientists (at least by one definition- they studied science at uni). But each year that same department only takes on a few new profs and teachers. So there must be a ratio of about a thousand to a few Scientists to profs. The others must all go on to something else, though that something might not be science. -
Probably. http://newsfeed.time.com/2012/07/16/why-women-finally-have-higher-iqs-than-men/

What do you know about the hydrolysis of sucrose? What do you get, and how much?

I think it's a toss up whether friction or viscosity will kill it. Something will. I don't expect you to understand this (I certainly don't) but it is a proof that your idea will not work. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noether%27s_theorem It's a mathematical proof- there's no way to argue against it. So it is certain that you are wasting your time.

Just out of idle curiosity, who asked you to do that? It's not in the rules so I wonder why you "saw" it there.
-
I think you have troughs, rather than peaks. Something is absorbing light near 790 and 890 nm, rather than emitting near 810 and 910. It could be pretty much anything in tth light-path.

Good point: 16 Ga is fairly thick You could sell it and buy a larger area of thinner sheet + make a bigger tank from that.
-
It's a good deal easier to cut it down 120 by 240 than it is to stretch it.
-
Nope, you buy stuff by the "metric foot" because it generally has to fit into a house that was built in feet + inches. It's not a "lack of commitment" it's a recognition of reality as it stands. On the other hand, if I follow your instructions, here in the UK I get a tank that holds 103 gallons, but if someone across the pond makes the same tank it holds 124 gallons. That makes feet + inches look quite sensible.

Thanks for that, but if you can not tell if something is talking about invisible sweepers or Balkan synagogues, then how can you possibly tell if it's on about black holes or time? Is it a real problem with Arabic that you simply can not tell what it means (I'm not unaware that this happens to a degree with English but it's hardly the same magnitude of problem)?
