  1. " I just think I.Q. is so snobbish, bigoted and subjective!!! It doesn't show the love and passion a person feels for his subject," That's not its job. IQ was designed about a hundred years ago as a (fairly crude) means to find those who were slipping behind in their education so that they might get extra help. It's calculated (in principle) by finding the ratio of chronological age to mental age. It's essentially undefined for adults. Using it for anything other than it's original purpose is silly.
  2. Those of us who don't get sex 33 times a second know that you are not telling the truth
  3. Really? You seriously suggest that- on a science website? What are you on, and can I get some (legally)?
  4. I have signed the OSA and it doesn't stop me publishing stuff about fundamental science. Stop being silly/ paranoid Re "What is the difference between an unmagnetized metal bar and a magnetized one. As far as chemistry and classic physics nothing. " Plain wrong. I'm off to spend Xmas with the family so I won't be posting so much for a while. All the best to everyone here. See you in the new year.
  5. If it does then the equator runs through the bathroom of the house I used to live in because the sink and bath drained with opposite spirals. Is it more credible that 1 some other force is involved or 2 the equator runs through the North of England? If there were no other forces involved and if the bath was big enough then the Coriolis effect would make a difference. There are and it isn't so it doesn't.
  6. OK, this isn't really funny, but... http://www.snopes.com/travel/trap/congress.asp
  7. Do you realise that what you are saying does not make sense? For example "0112358 3456 7 9 9 5 So next step is 43383 yes item and rules over lap ever wonder why multiplication is ( * ):" Explain exactly why the "next step is 43383" and then use the same reasoning to show what the next step is. At the moment you seem to be using a different rule for each digit of pi which is stupid. As I write this it is 10:03 23/12/2013 And that's clearly pi if you ignore the punctuation + spaces. To get the first digit (3) you add 2 the second digit requires adding 1 the 3rd digit, you add 4. for the 4th digit you add (-2) and so on. I can keep doing that with any sequence of digits and, as long as I come up with an arbitrary rule (like "add 3" or add "minus 2")for each digit, I can get them to agree. But it doesn't mean there is anything special about the time and date., it just means I can make up rules. If there is- as you imply- a single rule that converts the digits from pi to the fibonacci series (or the other way round) then you should be able to write those rules down clearly. Then you can use those rules repeatedly and , if you can show it works for the first 500 digits we might be interested. If you can write the rules down clearly then it's possible that someone here will turn them into a computer program and then they can check thousands of digits easily. In the videos you say things like "we put this number in this square" without saying why you do so. There is no explanation of the reasoning there. Tell us why and we will be able to comment on it. Otherwise it looks as if you are deluding yourself into thinking you have found something when, in fact, you are just making up rules as you go along in order to fit the right numbers. You need to explain why you are putting numbers in particular boxes.
  8. Still meaningless drivel.
  9. In conversation, yes. In formal writing I'd have to check but I think He was not as quick a learner as his brother. is better.
  10. OK, for a start, there is a difference between giving information and giving advice. Also, doctors are not the only ones who give medical advice- ask a nurse, dentist, first aider... Even if the OP was seeking medical advice (and I don't think it is) and the reply gave advice (it didn't) then, if the advice were given in good faith then there still wouldn't be a case, even if it turned out to be bad advice. For there to be a case the person would have to deliberately (or recklessly) give bad advice or they would have to misrepresent themselves as a medical practitioner of some sort. Incidentally, much the same can be said of giving legal advice if you are not a lawyer (and I'm not one).
  11. Strange, that's cheating! You should have read to the end first. Like he said "Don’t judge, and don’t deride me before listening till end." where you would have seen this "That is all: a sketch idea." It reminds me of this http://chasemarch.com/2008/04/fake-test-i-pranked-mt-class.html
  12. Rather than saying this at the start "Don’t judge, and don’t deride me before listening till end." and this at the end "That is all: a sketch idea." you could have saved trouble by saying at the outset that you haven't sorted out what you are talking about.
  13. "He was not as much quick a learner as his brother." Doesn't sound right to me. I'd say "He was not as quick a learner as his brother." or "He was not so quick a learner as his brother." and I'm not sure if either of those is more correct than the other, but I think both would be accepted.
  14. 75 million homes to visit? Have the Americans forgotten about the rest of the world again?
  15. What act or regulation would they be breaking? It might be unwise, and it would certainly be sensible to start any such reply with "I'm not a doctor but..." Anyway, as I see it, this is an engineering question. The diagram(s) here might help. http://medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Chest+drain
  16. "I don't think 0.999... = 1. " You are mistaken. "If 0.999... = 1, then 1 - 0.999... = 0. " And it is, because 1-0.9999... = zero exactly " But, it does not turn out to be 0." Yes it does. You based that idea on a mistake. "it turns out to be infinitesimal." No, it turns out to be zero. ". If 0.999... = 1, it would be 0." And it is, so it is. "Does 0.999 recurring equal one?" Yes. So, it doesn't matter what an infinitesimal is, nor what value it has because 1-0.999... isn't one. Since this whole thread was based on a mistake, (now corrected "I think I might have been wrong on how 0.999... does not equal 1, since 9 * 0.111... = 9 * 1/9 = 1 = 0.999...") can we close the thread to avoid repetition?
  17. Is there a problem with using hydrogen?
  18. Fred, as long as the logic is straight and the ideas tally with observation, not doing the maths isn't a problem; you might even get someone here to do the maths for you. The other requirement is that this new idea is useful. It would need to explain observations which the current ideas don't explain. If you can't do that then the maths is irrelevant. If your idea meets those criteria then post a summary of it here. if not, then don't bother; it will get torn to shreds.
  19. "This has 7 miles of seawater over it, which should provide more than adequate shielding." Until they dissolved and mixed into the water.
  20. Not really. If you have the choice between having food and heating your home it's still poverty, whichever decision you make. And, if you can do those, but not afford medical care or an education for your kids then not only are you in poverty, but you (and they) are likely to be stuck there. There are other issues like " in South America, where the primitive rain-forest would be bulldozed and cleared for usable modern arable and grazing land." Ignoring, for the minute, the morality of killing all the other animals which live there, what about the greenhouse effect?
  21. Do you anticipate that this will serve some purpose?
  22. Turionx, Are you ignoring my point? How can you be sure that you were not told about logic?
  23. Cutting canine teeth and grinding molar teeth are evidence of an omnivorous "design" for humans (whether that's from God or evolution). I grew up in farming country- do you really imagine I don't know what meat is or that I couldn't slaughter animals if I needed to? We are not near the middle of the food chain. For almost all humans, we don't expect to get eaten so we are at the top of that chain. I live in the North of England and quite a lot of the territory here is cold, wet and hilly. It's' difficult to grow anything but grass, and people don't have the stomachs needed to digest grass. So the only way for people to farm here is to get other animals- typically sheep) to eat the grass, then we eat the sheep. If you study sheep you will notice that they spend practically all day eating. Humans, even if there were "better" food would also have to do that if we were scrabbling about for fruit and roots. That would mean that we wouldn't have time for study. Eating meat lets us leave the mundane activity of gathering calories to something else while we do the interesting stuff like culture, science and so on. If our ancestors didn't eat meat, you wouldn't have a computer.
  24. The video makes a number of errors* and, since it doesn't mention <name removed by mod>, it cannot possibly be evidence for the assertion that forms the title of the thread. More importantly, in my opinion, this thread should be locked for a breach of the rules: it slanders Mr <name removed by mod>. * by far the biggest problem is the stupid assumption that things fall sideways. (about 1:15) They don't. They fall down. The other thing they fail to take account of is that a building falling down due to a big fire (or a lot of little ones) will look pretty much like a controlled demolition, simply because, from the point of view of most of the stuff from which the building is made, the effect is the same. The stuff below it is weakened and doesn't hold it up, so it falls down..
  25. It's not a matter of bad English. We understood you well enough. The problem is that you have invented an idea of how the Universe is, without giving any reasons for thinking that the Universe is like that.
