Dinosaur extinction was probably by Sun particles
John Cuthber replied to lbiarge's topic in Speculations
Did you not read the bit about the timing being wrong, or did you not understand it? -
I'd Just like to let you guys know
John Cuthber replied to Popcorn Sutton's topic in Psychiatry and Psychology
"Serotonin acts as a vasoconstrictor and when you limit it's reuptake guess what therefore happens? Well, you have to guess because they won't tell you. No doctor in their right mind would say that the antidepressant they are giving you might cause blood vessels to constrict and therefore cause a stroke. Their employers don't like those kinds of lawsuits. No drug company would dare publish that linkage. They would, at best, lower the maximum dosage." Or, you could search the web and find out that people have checked the effect of prozac (one of the best known SSRIs and find that it lowers blood pressure. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9934937 Why on earth did you think you would need to guess? -

There are records of many pole reversals, but few extinctions. So, pole reversals don't cause extinctions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal Also, the timings are wrong. -

Are there any uptake inhibitors that are available for prescription, but have not been subject to a trial? If not then your post seems meaningless. -
Life in Earth is by Moon and 3 articles more over Moon and Earth
John Cuthber replied to lbiarge's topic in Speculations
Well, thanks for clearing that up. I thought that the lack of life on Venus was something to do with a surface temperature that would melt lead and an atmosphere full of sulphuric acid. But now you have explained that it's because it has no moon. I agree that tides probably helped but... -
"there are hypotheses about the topic, but the problem is that, for my purposes, these theories are completely vacuous." If the established theories don't tally with your topic, is it those theories that have a problem, or your purposes? "I hate to say something that sounds so obviously absurd" Then don't. "It kind of seems like language utilizes more than just neural networks." As far as I know, mine doesn't.

Synthesis of Potassium Perchlorate
John Cuthber replied to sonlightcity's topic in Inorganic Chemistry
"I've been doing a lot of research recently on the synthesis of chlorates and perchlorates (specifically potassium)." Why? "because they've used incorrect grammer." LOL -
I realise that it's gibberish and that someone just made it up. But this is the religion forum, so that's OK.

"But besides being unscientific it could be exploited by unscrupulous individuals (and perhaps has been) who couple such thinking with the idea that certain individuals (or members of some minority group in the community) spread or are a source of "negative energy"." It has.

Seriously, how come Stonehenge still lines up with the sun at the Solstice?
-
Because it's one of the things that religions are known to do- even today.
-
I did. Since the Bible is a made up fairy story, you can't actually use it as evidence.
-
For a start, learn some maths. 26 degrees is about 1800 miles, but that's hardly the point. If the poles + equator had moved that much then, just for a start, your satellite dish would be pointing in the wrong direction. Seriously, how come Stonehenge still lines up with the sun at the Solstice? How come Sundials still face the sun, just like they did when they were installed?

I still think it's a bit late for them to go to the doctor's.

I used to know the answer...

I guess the classification could have been a lot worse. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celestial_Emporium_of_Benevolent_Knowledge's_Taxonomy But I still think the "We don't eat shellfish- only heathens do that" was designed to separate "us" from "them" Circumcision anyone?

Joeman It seems you have spent 30 years looking at this idea. I will see that 30 years and raise you 4000 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge Still taking bets?

The source of morality for theists and atheists
John Cuthber replied to ewmon's topic in General Philosophy
"What do we repeatedly hear from a[nti]theists here? * Christians want to stone children to death! * Christians want to burn gays alive! * Christians want to enslave people! * Christians want to murder witches!" Nope, we don't hear that do we? It's a stawman and, as such a breach of the rules. It's also an insult and so it's another breach of the rules. . What you hear from the atheists is that most Christians don't want to do those things. So they don't. But they do want to claim that they get their moral guidance from a book which says they should. Which is absurd. What we are saying is that Christians don't follow the teachings of the Bible, but they claim that they do. In many cases, they have been misled. They think that the Old testament was "replaced" by the new one. They ignore the fact that such an interpretation means that God must have got it wrong for 2000 years or so, and they ignore the fact that the teachings of Christ (i.e. Christianity) include "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law" i.e. that OT still stands. All those silly things about stoning people to death are still part of Christianity- because Christ said so. Most Christians ignore them (thankfully). In doing so they do not follow the teachings of Christ. So they are not really Christians. It's not a matter of "they are closet wannabe child murderers" It's a matter of they are misguided, dishonest or hypocrites, -

Did Gods and aliens really ever walk the Earth?
John Cuthber replied to seriously disabled's topic in Religion
Seriously Disabled just made the X files look like a relatively credible source. Re. "Ancient aliens, as we envision them based on endless physical evidence found across the planet," nope, there still isn't any such evidence. -
What defines religion (split from correlation w/poverty)
John Cuthber replied to immortal's topic in Religion
Saying it again doesn't make it true. You said you had proof, but your "proof" contradicts itself. Do you actually have evidence? (Once again, I remind you that an appeal to authority won't do: nor will an experiment which relies on equipment which you claim does not really exist) -
Did Gods and aliens really ever walk the Earth?
John Cuthber replied to seriously disabled's topic in Religion
Actually, we don't. And citing a bit of known fiction doesn't improve your argument any better than the ad hom does.
