  1. heh... heh.. heh heh... heh... Riiiiiiight. You've nailed the problem. That's why we can't see anything. ... ... Admiral, dude, I understand what you're saying only -- DUDE -- I mean.. BUDDY... please... this is not pseudoscience. It's - at best - unfounded picture-for-the-retarded pseudocrap babble. Please don't offend Pseudoscience by even suggesting this has anything to do with it. Pseudoscience is not babble-crap. It's theories and thoughts, but they're BASED on logical theories. Unproofed, but logical. Hilarious as it may be, this stupid thread is far far from even resembling "pseudo", let alone "science". ~moo
  2. do you have any antivirus? try figuring out what the spyware or trojan is called, then you can try downloading a remover from norton (for free by the way). They usually help. By the way, try and find a process that works in the background and might be the naughty worm. And about backups--- with our world, and the way comps are being hacked/cracked and molested so much, I'd suggest doing that regularly - fear of a virus or not ~moo
  3. duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude thanks!! I began to lose faith that anyone knows anything about this ) thanks, I'll check it out now ~moo
  4. Yes but antarctica is a continent, and traces of fossils were found there - fossils that are of animals living in warmer climates. The question is also can anything of this sort happen if the meteor hit earth at all? (even not near the poles)? I'm trying to find links, this is just something I've heard from a few friends and read in a book somewhere. ~moo
  5. Everyone knows the earth is moving around the sun in an oval course, and that it's rotating around itself during that movement. And we all know that it's rotating not in a 0 degree inclination, but something that resembles 23 degrees (if I got it right, correct me if I'm wrong). Not long ago I've heard a theory that states that this inclination couldn't have been simply created as the earth was created from the sun, but was done about 10,000 years ago when a large meteor crashed on earth, relatively close to one of the poles, presumably shifting earth and causing it to rotate with an inclination of 23 degrees. That theory also states that due to this shift the two polar continents - antarctica and arctica - also shifted, freezing actual land that used to be warmer. From what I understood that theory is also supported, at least partially, by some fossils and frozen remains that are found in Antarctica. Those who support this theory also claim that it is possible that a large community of humans lived on earth at that time - a community that was relatively advanced to teh stage of having trade and water-travelling, and that this shift caused by this meteor caused major changes in the landscapes - specially the ones close to sea shore - wiping out all the civilization that lived near the shores (as we all know, the more advanced people) and leaving only those who lived inside mountains or in deep land (like deserts and such) - causing humanity to step back about 1500 years in "technology" and knowledge. Also, there is a story I've heard about the remains of a woman found in south america - the most ancient mummy ever found on earth - that was found wearing leather boots (not like the ones we have today, obviously, but still) and cloths, and around her neck they found stones that don't exist in any other region of the world, only in Africa, which suggested the existance of trade and merchance between Africa and South america -- which is quite shocking. What's more shocking, is the approximation of the mummy's "age" - about 9,000 years ago. Has any of you heard of any of those theories? If yes, I'd appreciate more information, if not, what do you think of it? Do you think it may be true? It sounds like many things support it... I'd love to hear your inputs, ~moo
  6. I'm not sure if this should be here or in chemistry (err.. here sounds more true but I don't know, move it if I'm wrong) - but I have a question: I'm sure that other than the physical affects, people who are DRUNK are affected by their psychological state. It's obvious, that's why "completely-drunk-crazy-woozy-people" are usually acting insane in large groups. What I would like to know is what exactly does alcohol does to the body (I don't mean in the long run) and why are the affects so obvious? And also, why is it that when someone is mixing different types of alcohol (as they say) the effects are larger and faster? Is it affecting the brain? if so, how? Thanks! ~moo
  7. I didn't say they are, I said it's a possibility we may find extra-terrestrial life forms on earth already, and I gave an example of things we don't KNOW. And I'm quite skeptical about the fact they might look like us. I believe that odds are not only are they not even SIMILAR to humans, they also might very well exist in ways we may not comprehend. Like "thought". "intelligence". "sphere". or even something that is so beyond our understanding that we only comprehend PART of it, and translate what it is to something else entirely. ~moo
  8. I agree about what you guys said with changing Mars' atmosphere. It doesn't sound too possible, but I have to say - we cannever know what's in for us at the future. I agree that it would be a MISTAKE to change Mars' atmosphere, at least until we figure out what exactly is the natural balance on mars (and I'm not speaking about what the Marsian Rats have for breakfast..) I do think that colonization in terms of a space station is possible, and I'd dare say that we might even see it in our life time still. We have some of the technology, and we definately have the will.. I think that those things actually will happen = and sooner than most of us think. But I think the Moon will be colonized sooner. Though I wouldn't exactly call it colonization if it's actually a space station with researchers and computers on it... ~moo
  9. In the movie Solaris (again, it sucked, and I wouldn't be surprised that the science in it is flawed as hell) there was a scene where one of the characters wanted to kill herself, and drank a bottle of liquid oxygen (that's what her husband in the movie said, at least). Her face - where she had swallowed it - was completely melted. I just wanted to know if that contains any shred of truth and science in it. Other than that, I just thought about something. When we say breath we don't mean oxygen alone, naturally, there are more substances in the air -- so if we say "it harder to breath when its cold" -- is that because of oxygen or other substances "freezing" in the air? ~moo
  10. Well you said it´s unethical to grow fields of clones just for the purpose of organ donations. I agree completely, I just have less faith in humanity -- it's unethical to destroy the rainforests too, and like clones trees take years to grow enough for us to use them to create paper -- and we still do it. I hope we won't do that with clones, but I have to say you cannever know. Specially if instead of FULL clones we'll grow human faces on the ass of a baboon. And Skye, I find that hard to believe - there were rumors, but nothing more.. if there really WERE clones that were stable enough to actually give anything for "harvest" I'd say it wouldn't stop with just a small ad on the paper.... just a suspicion I have.I might be wrong of course. and Admiral -- Point taken. Still .. it's hard enough knowing you go around with someone else's heart / or carnia or anything else for that matter... think about going with his FACE. ~moo
  11. We do have the technology to clone human PARTS like ears and a nose. Why can't we grow a face? Even so, we surely will have it SOON enough. though I doubt that's a good thing. It's one thing having a rat carrying a human ear on its back, can you actually imagine a rat having a human face? eugh. And dave, about your points, I completely agree, but allow me to be perfectly blunt right now on answering: Since when did that ever bother humanity? It takes years and years for a tree to grow thick enough for us to use it for PAPER-making. If we're going to be unethical, here's a perfect way to start. I completely agree, don't get me wrong, I just don't have as much faith in humanity as you do. ~moo
  12. Uhm yeah I'd figure that too but fact is it's much harder to breath when the air is hot... in the summer -- oh wait. That might have something to do with the humidity, now that I think of it... So wait, if I put two people - one in the middle of the desert and one in the middle of antartica - concidering the fact that we put them both relatively at the same "difference" temperature from the "normal" they are used to --- who will have a harder time breathing and who's air atmosphere would cause more body damage? (disregard other atmospherecal damage like the sun, radiation and such.. just air) And another question I've seen in a movie and thought might be a bit stupid, but I might be wrong here: Is liquid oxygen an acid? if I "drink" it (other than the fact I'll die 'cause it'll freaze my internal organs) will it actually scorch and melt my face? Seen in a movie (I think it was Solaris - it sucked - but I just thought I'd ask). And YT: What oyu're saying is that cold makes it harder only because it's COLD? not because of oxygen? but isn't the oxygen more "liquidy" (or however you say it) ? And one last question: Do you guys think it's possible to compress oxygen so that a human can breath a form of liquid that contains "air" materials? that can be used for deep sea explorations because of the enormous atmospherecal pressure.. ~moo
  13. Say, I just thought of it.. if we say oxygen actually freeze at such extreme temperature (I know we won't have such temp on earth, I'm just SAYING) - then shouldn't it be more difficult to breath air when it's cold than it is when it's hot? Relatively speaking... ~moo
  14. How do you get ot a point you have liquid oxygen? And say I want to freaze the oxygen we have in the air.. how low should the temperature get in order to achieve that? ~moo
  15. Uh how different is growing a skin using clones or something (we have THAT technology, or we will pretty soon) and attatching it to a person's face later, to transplanting an "existing" skin? ~moo
  16. If it can, then how cold should it be for it to freaze? I've seen the movie "The Day after Tomorrow" and without destroying the point (actually a nice movie) -- I just thought how cold should it be for the oxygen to freaze... I'd appreciate if you WONT put spoilers in here by the way let people enjoy the movie as it is. ~moo
  17. yes good movie for its time. By the way what I meant was that instead of STEALING an already existing face, why not CREATING a new one. I'm sure that it shouldn't be as big of a problem as it used to be, now that face transplant is actually available. By the way, I can't help but wondering who's going to be the donors... err.. would any of you go with a dead-guy's face? Will it be like those cards you own for "Transplants Approval" in case anything bad happens to you? Augh I can hear the doctors.. "Your son was in a bad fire, his face was completely burned, but don't worry, we just found three potential donor for you that died just a few moments ago in the OR -- gang fight. Care to pick a face?" I know it sounds "funny.." err but that wasn't supposed to.. erhm... well would you take a face off a donor!? ~moo
  18. <picks a daisey> To answer an idiot.... Not to answer an idiot.... to answer and idiot... not to answer... oh hell, what does it matter. It just amuses me that I see ES's BSs through the replies he gets 'cause he's on my ignore list (highly recommended, by the way). Anyone care to continune this debate without letting him destroy yet another good thread? ~moo
  19. Unbelievable. What I can't believe more than this pack of crap is that you guys actually going along with it. ~moo
  20. uh well why the need to steal anything? I'm sure that if this exists, soon we'll be able to just CREATE a face. SPECIALLY with the new gene manipulation tests that goes around and we hear about a lot lately... THAT would be scary. ~moo
  21. Okay, well, you got to the right place. People are not creationists either here-- okay, MOSTLY <to this I will groan> and we listen to exotic new theories. We do appreciate proofs of course though Any examples? Every theory has holes, that's why it's a THEORY but yes, I'm taking. I'd like to hear some more. Can't promise I'll agree, but I will listen ~moo
  22. It was an EXAMPLE! ~moo
  23. dave: I was about to ask the point of this thread, but you just answered it. Okay then. Now I understand. ~moo
  24. Oh My god. Okay, well, I was certain this is a pseudoscience forum, not a goggle-moggle-as-a-brain forum. My bad. You should change the name. Welcome back ES. I've missed you. Here, see a picture to prove it: ~moo
  25. Everything is misused today, that's why we're putting this subject under "Biomedical Ethics"... Ahh heck. If we actually manage to *keep* the ethics on this one, it sounds like it can actually do lots of good for people with severe disfigurements, or people that has been through accidents and such. Obviously it opens up the entire "Bin-Laden can look like sidney crawford" business and people would start getting all paranoid -- but then again, as I've said in the beginning of this post, everything can be misused and taken advantage of. We'll just have to make sure it STAYS ethical, I guess. ~moo
