...Could you back that up, please? I don't see chimps taking land from other animals unless they need more. And they sure as heck don't eat too many bananas, do they? They leave plenty for us. And the only animals making use (greedy use, at that) of the planet's resources is...what, humans, isn't it? I don't see 'fat' whales, they're all pretty close to the same size because they all eat what they need (pregnant ones not included). And did wolves ever kill off all the other animals in an area because they wanted to expand their territory? No, but humans did. The majority of animals that kill other animals kill the old, weak, and sick ones. So how is THAT greedy, if we humans only eat the healthiest of the bunch? And I don't see any animals walking around giving paper certificates to take what they want, so they obviously don't steal anything since it's not stealing if its free. And yet, animals don't wipe each other out, like we do. Were we not on this planet, there wouldn't be any extinctions (aside from mass-extinctions). So where do you decide that "everything that lives on this planet" is greedy? And don't get me started on plants, because those are things living on this planet, too.

...No one complains when there are just two birthdays, so why bring it up when there's only one? It's statistically odd, yes, and it'd be even more odd if we didn't have any birthdays at all, but easily possible.

There is a human instinct for greed. We all have it, to varying extents. However, I used to think that if money was something no one had ever heard of, a concept like this could work. But humans don't work without incentives- most who do voluteer work are trying to get into a good college. If you were to take all of those people who were actually volunteers, you might be able to work this out. Or, if you were having people do work that will, in the end, protect them or allow them to get more food, clothes, etc, then you could probably even get a bunch of the less greedy to agree to this. Or, if you just have a robot workforce and make no one work, you could get everyone to . The truth is, though, that even if you have a society that didn't know currency ever existed, they'll still come up with it. Obviously it's happened before, and it wouldn't take much to make it happen again.

Ah, who cares? The ISS can take micrometeorites travelling hundreds of times faster, it can take a simple homemade rocket that weighs, I don't know... 20 kg, at orbital velocity

Very good point, Sayo.

What is energy: subatomic particle or abstract concept?

[random bad joke]Hence the reason we say "ERRRRRGGG!" when we try to pick up something heavy. [drum thing that's always done after a joke][/random bad joke] -
HK is a team in my state... Haddam-Killingworth. Maybe he's just not sure which LOL. Hong Kong is much more likely, though.

Quite useful, thank you. I'll look into it. Even so, yes, I am still open to ideas

Yes, but once they learned the definitions and some science, they would no longer be laypersons.

I have a science teacher who's offered to help me out with airplane stuff since he know's that what I want to do. He's said we'll look into aerodynamics courses and the like at nearby colleges, maybe look for some nearby wind tunnels or something for some sort of internship. That's cool of him. He told me to think about projects I could do and so I've been thinking. There're a couple of possibilities I'd really like to look into, but would probably be too complex or too expensive (or both) for me to really manage. I was considering making a model (as in R/C, since I have a controller that could manage that right now) but that seems expensive and quite possibly a bit too complex for me. Another concept I thought up with my dad's help was to look into making a miniature wind tunnel. That's probably more manageable in both aspects, but there are a couple problems. I'm pretty sure that scale speed winds will have the same affect on a wing if it's scale sized (and weighted). For instance, 18 mph winds would have the same affect on a 10lb, 100 inch wing that 180 mph winds would have on a 100lb, 1000 inch wing (just throwing numbers out, correct me if that seems wrong though.) The problem is getting scale weights. Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has any other ideas, or if anyone knew anything about the two projects I mentioned that could help me out- like price estimates and just how hard it would probably be. Once again, thanks for any help I may get, since you guys at SFN have never let me down before.

The reason I don't like Banshees nearly as much is because (I believe) Possession kills off the Banshee. Dark Archons, on the other hand, just needed to wait for more mana. And you're right that Science Vessels are the scourge of Protoss- when I started really thinking about strategy, I realized that Science Vessels are probably some of the best Terran Units (assuming you're not against Zerg). EMP, Irradiate, and Defensive Matrix are all extremely useful if you're willing to micromanage a bit. But my favorite trick is to get a bunch of Arbiters and Recall a huge force .

Dark Archon is correct. Much more useful than the Banshee in WCIII.

About 4 seconds average for me. 7 times in 28 seconds.

On top of what drz said, planets are constantly affected (in very small ways) by other gravitational forces- in many cases moons, but even the occasional comet or asteroid can affect the planet. As such, these gravitational forces act as the equivalent of friction in space- the planet is being pulled in all sorts of weird directions by these forces. I've heard (never really bothered to truly look into it, because it makes logical sense when you think about it) that the length of Earth's day has been getting consistenly shorter thanks to the moon slowing down its rotation. And, if this is completely wrong, ignore me I'm no physicist yet.

College Applications- What gets the Goods?
Rasori replied to MolecularMan14's topic in Science Education
Err... *gets all defensive-like* stuff!!!! Dunno why I always do stuff like that... But don't feel sad- I've yet to tell my FAMILY. MY FAMILY, for crying out loud (yes, I do know what it's about, just don't want to share lol) As for working in school, I can work for my mom, my dad, or this nifty discount store down the street (the owner knows my family). -
Hence why I prefer dogs

I'm shooting for MIT. Right now I'm trying to keep my grades up. I'm writing a book too I don't think there's much I can do through school that's anything at all related to Aeronautical Engineering, but if I were to get a job *coughstupidchildlaborlawscough* then I could always do stuff oustide of school with my spare money... -
Erm... Where exactly do you hold these unexpectedly abundant quantities... and what do you do with them when you're done examining them?

You can mind-control with WC III (Banshee in UD), but it costs too much money. I remember having overkill money in SC, but WC is much tougher on the resources... Night Elves are cool, especially thanks to the hide ability and the moonwells, but I got used to the advantage of UD being able to get buildings up the quickest (or, more buildings up in a given time period, though the buildings take just as long).
-
Protoss were in SC. I presume that most SC and WC players would agree with me that Protoss and Undead are both quite good, and nearly even. I prefer Protoss merely because SC allowed 200 food (er, PSI) per tech tree as opposed to WC's 100. Of course, Protoss and Undead are nearly even because the both have the same great advantage: summoning buildings

...."But that's just me..." You sound like my health teacher All that makes sense, but I never had sense, so it's news to me Thank you for your advice, and I'll be sure to keep it all in mind. Let's see if I can actually get something accomplished during this writing session Edit: one of the smilies didn't work.

Now, I'm not certain this is the right forum (don't you love reading that line first thing?) but physiology seems to cover it reasonably well. This Saturday I'm planning a full day (8 hours, at least) of writing (a book). I have caffeinated beverages (avoiding sugar, but caffeine is helpful for me, so diet sodas) on my list as it is. I know that that's not the best thing for me, but it'll keep me awake. My question is what kinds of foods should I eat the day before/day of to keep my mind in tip-top condition throughout the day. While I'm at it, I might as well ask what types of activities I should do, as well. I'm sure typing 8 hours straight is not the best treatment for the mind (or fingers), so breaks are necessary. And I tend listen to music, so does anyone have a recommendation as to what'll stimulate creativity? I tend to listen to a mix of... wordless music. Can't really all be called classical, so let's leave it as wordless. Words tend to get me thinking along with the song, so try to avoid that if possible. Thanks for your input, because if I know the good people at SFN then this is going to be responded to

....Soon enough, all the military secrets of the Superpowers will be able to fit under a fingernail. How much does that traitor get paid?

I agree with Mobius. And most games that are built around bloodshed and violence can still teach a thing or two. Hmm... video games to literacy rates. I don't think so, because gaming is something that requires the eyes in many forms. Most times it requires reading words somewhere or another. I will say one thing that I don't think was mentioned: I think video games DO affect aliteracy rates. Most gamers are able to, but don't, read.

...Personally, I don't trust floppys. They lose their configuration info too often. I used to use them for some text documents because one of my computers doesn't have a CD-RW Drive, but now I have a portable hard drive, so there's no need. But someday people will probably have empty towers placed amongst their office, home, and anywhere else they go to often, so all they have to do is pop in a disk and they've got their usual configuration all loaded up. Helps for the not-so-computer-saavy people, since they get used to their setup at work and then have no clue how to run the computer at home Yeah... pointless post.
