I suppose this is the best area for the question - Does anyone know how to construct a latch from 2 normally open switches? Not homework - just a brain teaser i can't solve!

Diff between Computer Technology and Computer Science
bluesmudge replied to weknowthewor's topic in Computer Science
Thats just ignorance. Like saying a tomato isn't a fruit just because of someone else's general ignorance. At Oxford Brookes University, If i want to gain a degree in computer science (mine is in computer systems) I can take modules in anything with the word computer in it. Computer Science is a broad term and incorporates every aspect of computing, programming, hardware, mathematics etc etc Computer technology is not something I've ever heard of before as a subject in its own right, sounds to me like it could be explained as a sub category of computer science. It would seem to me the definitions change depending where you go to learn it. . . . which is why you need to choose your institution wisely.... but personally i like the way my uni deals with it, which is basically a umbrella term. -
SFN Logo FX causing problems...
bluesmudge replied to ParanoiA's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
funny how you have the only two computers out of everyone in this thread to have the problem. Any similarities in the machines? Graphics Refresh problem? -
^^^ as above, you'll need to start from scratch

can we subscribe to your newsletter?
-
you should be able too . . . though its better to upgrade it as the prescott burns hot - - - thats if the new CPU actually works on the mobo . . . i think we should start placing bets as to whether it will or not . . . look into a bios upgrade, see if anyone else has done one!
-
cheers i'll look into it

Serivce Pack2 - I have Norton Anti Virus 2005 - which i've turned off and its still being blocked - I like the protection of firewall and NAV - experience is its not great by itself.
-
if the board only supports Willamette or Nothwood - i can pretty much guarentee your prescott one you linked above won't work - I myself brought a prescott and there was generally only support from newer mobos - plus i think it was some sort of new direction from intel so they're a little different to some other P4's Oh and you'll need to get a good fan - mine operates generally at around 70-80 deg C - which is stupidly hot. Don't go too cheap on the mobo - think about the future expansions you may want to undertake - oh and you'll probably want some faster ram for it.

The XP firewall has started to block FTP for no reason - no changes have been made to the exception and as soon as its turned of FTP works - Have googled seemed as if a few people have had the problem - though no solid solution - any ideas? Yes - the FTP client is in the exceptions Yes - I've tried adding the ports to exceptions Yes - I know XP firewall is crap - I've used Zone alarm and that does the same thing - plus it messes up alot of the other stuff i use

its not certain to work - the correct pin amount isn't everything - Your best bet would have been to find a processor compatibility list for your Motherboard. You may find it will need a bios upgrade before it works. and from experience whacking in a high power processor and expecting it to move alot faster doesn't always work - a computer only moves as fast as the slowest component. Memory speed is the best thing to upgrade first - put in the highest speed ram - if you're on an IDE Hard Drive upgrade to SATA (if mobo supports) Of course check the mobo bus speed as well all data travels along it so if its slow it'll only bottle-neck.

plus people will hate IE no matter what you do to it - theres no competition FF will always win
-
If FF had been released with the vista style interface it wouldn't fit in with the rest of XP - which is all they need to care about untill vista is released. If they adopted the Vista standard it would look as unatural to its environment as IE7 does . . . as pretty as you may think it is it doesn't match your current XP environment. The one thing that makes FF absolutely brilliant appart from its security, tabbed browsing, useability etc etc is the fact its not made by people who like IE which is fine by me.

Getting a T-flash memory card out of the SD adaptor.
bluesmudge replied to husmusen's topic in Computer Science
I have the opposite problem my mini SD pops out of the SD adapter too easily - maybe they put a lock on it? Can't really help without seeing it! -
You should have seen the state of the english language before the Normans, Romans, Norwegian, etc etc etc invaded . . . we'd be missing many words. Eg. all words accosiated with law come from the french as do works like Pork and Beef instead of just saying Pig and Cow The language has been moulded over the centuries by invaders / changing trends and attitutes. In short you can spell Yacht how ever you like - Just expect to be screened for dyslexia. to confirm above Yacht is from the Dutch

Seriously?! Its a massive operation getting that thing to walk forward let alone manage different terrains and immidiately correct itself after a massive kick off course - which it doesn't get any warning of.! Animals at least can see whats ahead, this think probably has to judge its terrain every time it moves its front foot. When its pushed it probably has to judge its angle of decent and place its foot at the correct distace away from its body, this thing in short is genius! and if we can't find a scientific use? well think of the great fun drunk students of the future will have tipping over robotic cows!

You'll have to explain that one Not in a contest, unless said contest is held in your bedroom . . . and not down the pub

http://www.modaco.com , http://www.ubuntuforums.org . . . tis about it

it seems to have problems standing still though

ah right, well as long as it doesn't make a difference if i cheat with a connector im not too worried

Anyone know any reason not to use a 20 - 24-pin ATX power cable converter? Why they need an extra four pins I have no idea, but i'll be damned it i'm replaceing my PSU for my new Motherboard! Oh and whilst I'm here why would a motherboard have a memory compatibility list - not just the specifics like ddr / ddr2 etc etc but brand names and model numbers. I thought as long as its the right type brands etc appart from quality were interchangeable
-
probably possible but generally mp3's don't have seperately identified layers voice, backing etc so what programs can do is slightly limited and not always successful heres one site google threw up http://www.make-your-own-karaoke.com (looks trustworthy but its nothing to do with me!) or just google http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=removing+voice+from+mp3 But doesn't it raise copyright issues?

well it is now but im sure it wasn't yesterday . . .will see if it happens again
