    Cooling Tips?

Lucky for me I'm not a female and can devote my time to constructive endevors
  2. Yeah, like hydrogen can ignite from an electrical storm several miles away and corodes metal?!

    Cooling Tips?

LOL!! Thanks for the tip (the AC ), that PLUS an awning should do the trick, if the awning doesn't do it
  4. I figured. Those adds are sooooo annoying. And that sharper image founder dude
  5. Not sure if I should make a new thread about this or what so here goes... Is Hydrogen really a viable option? It's more explosive than gas isn't it? Sure, it'd be great...but can it ever be made viable?
  6. Anyone know anthing about the Ionic Breeze from "Sharper Image"? We bought one once and didn't like it for some reason; apparently it cycled the air too slowly. So does it work (or any of Sharper Image products for that matter), or is it just another fad type thing?
  7. Would anyone happen to know what material this is made of? It's a friends and he says it's from a juggling set. I looked online and it looks like they call them "devil sticks" or something. Anyway, I'm trying to make a short star wars fan film with my friend and I think if I could get a longer piece of this material (about a meter; 3 feet) it would make the perfect lightsaber blade. Lucasfilm used carbon tubes but those are out of our price range... Better yet, I think it would be even better if we could find a rubber tube with small enough diameter so that it would fit comfortably. Someone said on another forum that it was fiberglass...but too me it feels more rubbery... Any ideas?

    Cooling Tips?

We have air conditioning, but it doesn't help much...we're hoping the awning will make it easier for the air conditoner to cool my room down. YT2095: Yes, I do keep the blinds closed. But that doesn't do much... It's currently 85 F. (It's 90 F outside ) Hmmm, I think the perfect room temperature would be around 65-70 Are those portable air conditioners any good?

    Cooling Tips?

Hi all: I was wondering if any of you guys knew something about heat transfer and stuff... I've always tried to use summers to work on stuff that I'm interested in...computer stuff; level desgining, 3d ing, etc... But, I haven't been able to work on anything really because my room is sooo freaking hot!!!! Notice the giant window.... I'm thinking the problem is that I get the heat from the morning sun. We're planning on getting an awning to cover the window, but I'm wondering if that will do anything; will that be enough, or are there other things I can do to cool down my room? I guess the developers really didn't care about that...... EDIT: I'm also very drowsy in the morning. Could that have anything to do with heat or is that something else entirely?
  11. Thanks. Speaking of Sharper Image, does that actually work or has it just become a fad?
  12. Indeed, they are complimentary.
  13. Anyone know this guy? He's one of the scientist working on "lifters". I heard somewhere though that his work is suspicious? Can someone verify whether this guy is legitimate? I don't mean to post gossip or something, just wondering...
  14. I really like the idea of magnetic propulsion. I'm not thinking anti-gravity here; just an alternate way to achieve lift. Alternate methods that allow the craft to be self powered; not like those laser craft and such. Thanks rocket man! Good posts everyone.
  15. Well, I was thinking more on the small scale for terrestial travel...ok, so I was inspiried by "343 Guilty Spark" from Halo. So what?
  16. Lately I've been wondering if there's more than two ways to fly... I mean, we've gotten so used to prop/jet propulsion over the last few hundred years or so that I wonder if we've forgotten or never even though of revolutionary methods? I've heard on a couple of tv programs that scientists are finding out that airplanes and boats have a lot in common or something; I guess like lift and boyancy are similar somehow? Anyway, I've been thinking about magnetic propulsion systems. Really creative stuff I think; like electromagnets spinning props that generate lift, or using magnets to somehow ionize the air and create lift that way; basically what flying involves is creating a low pressure above your craft allowing the high pressure below your craft to push you upwards. Traditionally this has been accomplished through immense thrust from prop or jet engines. However, I wonder if there are cheaper, more reliable, more creative solutions to achieving lift. What do you think?

    Sex for Fun

    fascinating thread
  18. Hey, I'm not the microbiologist. That's what this forum is for
  19. Thanks for the responses guys. I'll be planning on living two million years or whenever this technology comes to fruition
  20. Is it possible we will ever come to a point where we can not only decode the genome of other species rapidly, but learn how to program in the language of DNA? Is it possible we will learn how to use DNA sequences to create our own species, their own genome, cellular structure, and organs upward?
  21. Can't cars run on alchohol or something? Or are all these fuels less powerful than gas?
  22. Could methane replace gasoline, or is it like ethanol, where it's slightly less powerful? Or could you combine ethanol and methane? BTW: Thanks for the responses so far. insane_alien: It's a shame we aren't switching then!!!
  23. Hi all: Not sure if this is the right forum, but there wasn't any microbiology subforum so oh well... I was watching this show on the science channel and it was about some scientist on an ocean voyage collecting samples of the microbial life. The samples were sent back and their genes were blasted through a super computer and such. Anyway, I was wondering if perhaps one day if/when we are able to program genes, if it would be possible to create a microbe that secretes some sort of sludge/gas that could be used as fuel, or improving Ethanol production? Is that pure sci-fi or is there any hope for some system like that? Could microbes be the finaly frontier in the search for new energy sources?
