Thanks. Discharge of black waters to sea is restricted to beyond 3 miles offshores for 'untreated' raw sewage if I remember well, but do not know limits for 'treated' If treated means with dead/no living organisms in it, can be achieved fast and easy. If 'treated' means also without certain chemicals, heavy metals, toxins, am unsure how that 'treatment' is done. The seawater contaminating groundwater as mentioned; cannot be worse than septic sewers contaminating groundwater wells in the same neighborhood. I believe maaaany properties have both in the same or adjacent land tracts. How is that prevented ? Curiosity... Groundwater wells near locations with inland ClNa salt mines yield salty water ?

Good day. If coastal cities/islands implemented parallel water supplies using seawater for mostly toilet supply merging flow to same current sewer systems; what would happen to typical sewage treatment plants ? Can they deal with seawater or needs to be a different treatment ? If this has to be in some chemistry forum, please move.

The guy on the video does the onion chopping almost as well as me, but it is fine, he will get trough the learning curve... Thanks for the suggestions above. The addition of egg, bread crumbs, corn meal... is not what I see at a 'fast food' drooly hamburger. There has to be a trick somewhere. Perhaps mister MacDonald and friends know. Do I open another thread for how to successfully stick grated garlic to frying/fried potatoes ? or add it here ? In USA they do not know what fried potatoes are unless you say french fries... It is skidding off-topic into pancakes +... Will not do it by keyboard nor asking to nor buying one of these --- > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPTcIutsoTg&ab_channel=LiveScience

Hello. I buy some ground meat. Add some salt and pepper, sometimes chopped onions, form the patties. Everything falls apart on the frying pan. More when flipping. If it was a barbecue grill, it would all fall in pieces into the gaps. What is the trick to keep it in one piece ? 😟

Regards. Lenz law shown here ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7tIi71-AjA How to, where to, probe, measure, confirm a voltage presence of the eddy current as in the copper pipe shown above ?

Hello. There is stony and metallic meteorites with all their sub-types and in-between compositions. Could these differences correspond to the crust, mantle, core and in-between portions of exploded/collided celestial bodies ? In other words, do stony meteorites come from geological crusts, iron ones from core fragments ?

In my ignorance, did not know until today, Pluto had already been photographed several years ago. In case someone else has not seen it before, am attaching an image of its surface found on the web : - Widht is 50 miles - Shoreline of Sputnik planum. By the telescopic Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) aboard New Horizons, 14 July 2015. Enjoy.

Hi. Read somewhere that explosions or collisions of stars created much of the minerals that traveled trough space until stroke earth creating the deposits mined today. Is it reasonable to believe all planets and moons that existed then and in the same neighborhood received a similar 'rain of imported' minerals/elements ? Can soil similarities among planets tell they were nearby at that time; and dissimilarities mean they were then far apart ?

Greetings. A couple of sewing needles or pins pressing onto lead solder blobs can provide decent contact to recharge a lithium cell. No mysteries there. If the contraption will be used under sea water after recharged, and some sort of gel covers the contact blobs; discharging and corrosion could be avoided. What product can allow piercing to reach contact and when pins are retracted, be a decent insulating closure ? Am thinking of something like a silicone sealer that never cures, and does not dissolve in water... What would you suggest ? Electrical source-----------------> gel solder blob

English Language - words, meanings and context
Externet replied to Intoscience's topic in The Lounge
There is no institution that regulates, controls or rules the english language. So any effort hits a brick wall of public used to say whatever with nothing to obey. Everyone forgot to say 'gasoline' or 'laboratory' and a thousand more; mail and male pronounced equal; being laziness and lacking care or respect for the language main causes. -
Do not forget "any large" megalithic stone will have to be narrower than your narrow channel in order to fit in it, limiting its 'larginess' to something pole shaped like a broom stick floating in 100 litres of Hg. What is the use of a not really heavy stone stick deserving that elaborated transportation ? 🙄
-
Editing Murphy's law' from above : And never forget 'Murphy's law' : The nearest Hg mine will be a thousand kilometres from your megalythic stones, guarded by enemy armies that will want payment under the table and your first born, and the mine will deplete after 90 litres mined, short of your plans, will take much longer to transport the weight of the mercury so the megalythic moving contract will expire giving you zero income, nobody to buy the mercury or feed your hungry crew and transport donkeys. It is life ! 😩
-
There is a problem with the Give me ? Go mining it yourself. After all the effort and time spent prospecting, mining, refining it and digging, filling your channel, (that is 'if it floats') the megalithic stone will be already hundred of metres away by pushing it on older roller/wheeled methods. With no poisoned workers. And never forget Murphy's law' The nearest Hg mine will be a thousand kilometres from your megalythic stones. Do you know what is a 'narrow' channel filled with 100 litres of mercury ? Is it 10cm x 10cm x 10 metres ? Do you know the volume and weight * of the megalithic stone that by floating it on mercury can be pushed by floating ?. Do you realize that in order to move the megalithic stone 10 metre your channel has to be 20 metres long , to occupy the next 10 metres forward, and to empty the mercury already traveled 10 metres behind ? *If you know after calculating, the weight and size of the megalithic stone that can fit on a 100 litre mercury filled narrow channel it may be around 5cm x 5cm x 5m. Can be moved on a shoulder of one person several kilometres in one day with no mercury channel contraption. Forget about your 'hundred of tonnes' on 100 litres Hg dream.

Mister guardian, who is "you" ? Me or all of us ? Because I have not done anything to deserve your attitude that I will regret something. And what has to be done to avoid regretting whatever you mean ?

The process I suggest is to place the speedometer in front of a fan for a couple of days. No heat, no cold, no chemicals, no wiping. With any hole to access a illumination light bulb opened, and come back with results.

Good day. Cut a strip of thin iron sheet (a coffee can after surgery by scissors) Say 25mm x 100mm x 0.5mm. Cover sharp edges with some vinyl-electrical tape. Wind maaany turns of fine wire coil from left towards right and keep winding back towards the starting point. Both coil ends are at the same side. That is sort of a Rogowski coil, with a flexible metal core. -I think- Now wrap the bendable strip coil thing onto an AC current carrying wire as the lower sketch. Will the winding present some voltage proportional to the big wire current ? -Ignore the decorative print at lower right-

They should have pretty good access to equipment for tracking ufos, right ? Hope they release more videos from the ISS and past missions. Together with the military and their sophisticated tracking and imaging satellites by radar and optics... If an UFO shows up at a certain location, can it be followed until reaches its destination with all that equipment hanging in orbits ? Would it make sense if they ever say "we lost its position" ? 🤥 Unsure if links did not stick or is it against rules to add video links here. Hi. Find this video very pretty. If there was an 'educational videos' section, it would fit well. Move to 'Experiments' or leave it here; but enjoy it ! ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AXupc7oE-g

Thank you. I read about that before. Hard drive transplants may be possible only to same brand/family compfusers... The Windows drives I tested were operating internally on that laptop years ago. They do not now with a USB adapter cable. How does this work then ? : Check the description at ---> https://www.ebay.com/itm/394048404931?chn=ps&var=662588638948&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1oPLEpymjQLWDqbY7bjZz-g51&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=662588638948_394048404931&targetid=1599090334937&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9014268&poi=&campaignid=15275224983&mkgroupid=131097072938&rlsatarget=pla-1599090334937&abcId=9300697&merchantid=6296724&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyL2jqK-U-AIVNcmUCR3MOgIeEAQYBSABEgIHdPD_BwE Buying a drive that has never been in 'that' laptop before, sold with windows activated to be installed on any PC ? Is that a new or Win10 only thinghy ? Is there some missing fine print like The receiving PC must have had before a Win10 OS ?

Thanks. Operating from USB stick is not to consider. Has to be hard/SS drives. Tried old Win98 and WinXP and Win7 hard drives and none booted. Blue screens and freezing. Which puts me to think if there is any truth in such 'special' cable that allows booting. The only unusual UASP thinghy found is ---> https://www.startech.com/en-us/hdd/usb3s2sat3cb And wide prices range ---> https://www.ebay.com/itm/192930959131?chn=ps&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A12tKQdbHGQw-hRezvKfEcKA64&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&itemid=192930959131&targetid=1599090335937&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=9014268&poi=&campaignid=15275224983&mkgroupid=131097072938&rlsatarget=pla-1599090335937&abcId=9300697&merchantid=113476667&gclid=EAIaIQobChMImdCb_ueS-AIVh6XICh3l1QTcEAQYAiABEgKo8fD_BwE Perhaps do not know what terminology to search for...

Thanks. Pulled my own cable out of the spider webs, changed bios to boot from USB; plugged another Linux drive disabling the internal and booted just fine. Submitting this post with it. Yes, only 2.5" drives are in the game. Next to try in a few minutes is a Windows OS drive. Will see... I do not know how to identify which of the 3 ports is USB 1, 2,3...🤔
