YaDinghus : Am lost if you are suggesting pressurizing the cabin affects / "equalizes" the percentage of O2... Does it ? Once over the Andes as passenger, had a altimetre on hand and cabin pressure was under 1 Atm, perhaps equivalent to 3000 feet. But cannot remember precisely. Another ocassion also over the Andes, as 'copilot' , pilot and I put oxygen masks at certain 18,000ft? altitude. StringJunky : That is the point. Been in 13 hour flights (London to San Francisco) like 6 times with no recognizable sympthoms of partial anoxia.
-
Thanks. OK, the air brought in by engines is of poor 7% oxygen content, plus the recirculated is also depleted of O2 by occupants; so 7% is still enough oxygen at 30,000+ feet altitude instead of 21% for passengers to not experience anoxia as for engines to combust ? I have to assume the physical inactivity of passengers is what makes a difference to alpinists in feeling effects in flights of many, many hours duration. Does the ISS gets 'refills' from shuttles or is all the oxygen fully recycled ?
-
How does it work ? What equipment is on board jetliners to provide enough oxygen for the occupants ? Pressurizing cabins is one thing, but where does the amount of oxygen consumed comes from ? Never seen at ground support equipment, any oxygen filling operation. There may be oxygen cylinders for the masks that drop from overhead on emergencies, but that has to be unrelated.

Thanks, gentlemen. Will give it a try. [The microwave oven option is because it has an exhausting fan to evacuate moisture out; conventional ovens usually not.]
-
Heating these common sachets in an oven for a given amount of time is supposed to make them hygroscopic again, is that right? What if in a microwave oven ? Would it equally work or has to be some specific 'material/formulation' ? An educated guess would work, as I have no means to confirm its hygroscopy after the 'treatment' Or, which household product can be used instead, it is to prevent condensation in a 0.25 litre sealed canister with electronics that will be exposed to cold. Edit: If any moderator can correct the spelling in the title; thanks.

Thanks. Perhaps searching images as "the first deciphered three words of the title" + "old map" in German would yield something with better resolution. How is it exactly written in German in order to search ? Can only see 'Orient' , 'land', 'ligen', 'gegen', 'Indie', ' binder?' , 'Hispanien' Edited: found it! And the translation is...?

Thanks. Just shot a laser to a new, blank, recordable disc and the reflection is not a single beam... Suppose there is some formatting pits or tracks or something

A compact disc has pits on its surface to represent the data bits. Is the optical surface of a CD smooth as a mirror when new and blank, before anything is recorded/'burned' ? Am after a small, light, thin, durable mirror if I can cut off from a new CD

Hi. Perhaps fits the knowledge of someone; am not sure if it is German, latin, or... What does the title say ? I do not have a larger image.

My difficulty with the language will never end...
Externet replied to Externet's topic in The Lounge
My ignorance tells me it should be actually three feet, not legs. That is why I went for -3pod- or -three pod- or -triple pod- instead of -triangled pod- Being 'try', should be written trypod. Sorry, obviously am not the one who will fix this language. -
Today went to buy a tripod. Store clerks had difficulty understanding me. Is tripod pronounced like 'trip'... or like 'try'... ? I went for trip as in triple...

With the English language being reversed, would make more sense to call them trailer tractor. (traction for a trailer). Some buses are also articulated but not tractors, with their engines and propulsion at the back, being 'pushers' instead...

The best drill bits I have used are these; and am NOT related to the vendors at all. Just worth suggesting this kind. Publicly disclosing a new product on the internet...
Externet replied to Externet's topic in Engineering
Thanks. Will try Espacenet. Immediately jumps to mind that terms entered and results in that site will be captured by someone. Paranoia... Years ago; I sent the documents of a product development to myself on plain mail and kept the sealed envelope unopened at reception. The time stamp from the postal carrier was proof of existing design then, but without disclosure. And no first-to-file. -
Well, I called ebay and asked to record my conversation and be forwarded to management, asking that the chinese laser protection goggles they sell should have a certificate of compliance before someone gets hurt by believing they work. As John Cuthber explained above. Suppose I could call Amazon too, and... I used the opportunity to also ask to eliminate "Brand New" as item condition in their listings and respect the English language. "New" is not a brand, should say just "New" and set slang aside. Will see if they act...

To block a given laser wavelength, proper goggles are to be used. Is the color of the lenses an indication of their performance ? Seen identical color chinese cheap goggles differing in wavelength specifications from one vendor to another, like they have no remote clue they are to be selling safety. Is there any true relation with the color of a filter and its blocking of a particular wavelength ? From a chinese vendor:

Publicly disclosing a new product on the internet...
Externet replied to Externet's topic in Engineering
It is too good to waste. Well, I recognize that is also the opinion of anyone who comes up with a product, anyway. Alternative as I see in my inexperience to deal with a situation like this would be just build and sell the product. Perhaps a big corporation will buy the factory some day. But chances are it would be just copied... -

I know that part well, last time could not fight against 3M pockets... And in the middle of everything, my patent lawyer died.
