A typical led bulb noted above as $25 can be actually $2.50, tenfold the changeover convenience expressed above. And that price includes importing and markups. Not 100W equivalent, but, from my local store, when they are not in 'sale' at $1.98 each in six pack: The changeover to LED lighting should be harnessed to increase your savings, not filling vendor pockets on over-inflated prices. Then the thing works very well. When the location deserves in my home, I use for two of those inexpensive 60W equivalent instead of one expensive 100 W equivalent with :

Hi all. A piezoelectric disc sensing soundwaves in its surrounding air needs to be protected from corrosive gases in order to avoid deterioration. What type of coating/encapsulation would conduct sound with the least attenuation ? Fluid as grease, soft as silicone, medium as vinyl, hard as epoxy ? With no air gap between the coating and the sensing element ? Thick or thin layer ? Flexible or rigid material ? Rough or smooth surface ? Other considerations ?

It has been soooo long overdue. Today pulled CDs from under the dust and decided to have a 2+ hour loud session with a trio. Grand Funk. About 30 years since last session. Interesting feel being transported to the past.

Silence... obviously no plumbers here... Rethinking; any partial vacuum implemented to the sewer would drain the toilet trap and other traps in the drain pipes. Not a viable way. What if these modern toilets apply full water supply pressure into the jet orifice at the moment of flushing its tank ? That could achieve the fast observed effect. Will search for details. Bring your findings too. Edited... not far from suspicion ----> http://www.flushmate.com/ and jump to 16:40 time stamp ---->

Most convenient and affordable way to cool my cold tub
Externet replied to JCDC85's topic in Engineering
Welcome to SFN. Seems ice into the tub may be a very uncomfortable way. But if not, a plain 'garage' type freezer filled with ice molds should be simple and affordable, nothing industrial. Coiling aluminium pipe inside a domestic 'garage' freezer and pass tap water trough should work to fill the tub. Just purge after every use with compressed air or would clog/freeze/burst. Lid seals can be adapted with sponge. Passing (spilling) tap water trough an ice cubes filled bucket could work. Those chemical freeze bags used in 'coolers' could work and daily refrozen/recycled. -
Thanks Spyman. Missed checking for already posted subjects. Those personal experiences are the ones I sought. Am a light smoker, and did quit a couple of times for periods of a year before. Stupid to have returned. I feel am a compulsive smoker, as it gives me nothing. No 'high', no pleasure, no nothing. Perfectly defined as pure habit. Buying a brand that I dislike works. Smoking only a few puffs and extinguishing it works. Lighting up and only smelling instead of inhaling works. "Works" means diminishing smoking here. Other 'tricks' on that line of techniques is what I am after. Prescription medical nicotine inhalers did not work. Except for the vendor pockets. Hooked to the habit more than to the nicotine. Unsure if others feel alike.

Thanks, fiveworlds. Am familiar with the use of the instrument, done it many times after read/asked about the correct procedure to use and read the results, many years ago. What escaped to have clear is the hydraulic/pneumatic-physics part of it, interacting under skin and the Karotkoff logic. Which is perhaps more of an embarrassment to have unclear. Later got the lazy special pushbutton electronic unit that atrophies our brains by stopping thinking as many modern products are aimed. Push button and read. ------------------------------------ Thanks Prometheus. So such method exists. But medical equipment on post-operatory monitoring does not use such. The pointer of a manometer gauge would display/log the high and low values for blood pressure, if it was tapped to an artery and worn as a watch at the correct height... Perhaps in a few years patients will get implanted a 1/8" NPT tap to screw the manometer in...

Thanks. The advise/prescription was intended for the near and distant future diets, not during a hospital were foods were controlled. Perhaps I missed to detail the explanation.

Please expose/share techniques you know, experienced, heard of as more effective, clever, odd, complex, simple... them all.

Hi. The typical sphygmomanometer has always been elusive for me to comprehend how it works, even with 'good' hydraulics knowledge. The inflating bladder and the presence of pressures in an 'arm' counteract somehow and the result is a valid reading, tossing in the mix the sthetoscope... I think. IF a manometer with the proper scale was hydraulically 'connected' to an artery, as tapping a existing/in-use intravenous needle on the patient arm; would such blood pressure be able to be permanently read/displayed/monitored in real time instead of the seemingly archaic process of pumping-ausculting-deflating periodically ? Would such way show the high and low heartbeat pressures as a gauge pointer moving between high and low ?

A post coronary operation patient in recovering stage connected to a intravenous bag was advised to minimize as possible the ingestion of salty food. Does administering ClNa solution conflicts with the 'prescription' ? Or should the solution had been potassium chloride. ? Is it intra-venous or intra-arterial or does not matter ?

Hi. Noticed in some non-residential buildings, that toilets drain the waste brutally fast. Is there any vacuum implementation of some kind in modern/specialized sewer plumbing like in hospitals, hotels... ?

"short" is a common improper wording for electrical fault. The diagnostic tools that provide factory programmed codes readout are very commonly misinterpreted, and that is what takes the sharp electronics expert (not a computer expert) to diagnose. A code like P0303 for 'cylinder 3 misfire detected' usually causes the 'mechanic' to replace the #3 spark plug, in a guess. As the problem stays, then goes to replace a O2 sensor, then the other... Problem can be from many other things, as head gasket coolant leak, corona discharge in a high voltage wire, sticky valve, a bad connector in many places, a rat bitten wire, wet contacts, poor grounding... Takes a lot more diagnostics than trial and error blindly replacing parts from an error code displayed. Murphy's law states that if you focus in the 10 most common failures, the first vehicle to repair will present failure # 174, and intermittent. The trust in oil change places does not work well when they remove the oil pan steel plug with a pneumatic pistol instead of a plain wrench -because it is easier-. Its button set in 'in' instead of 'out' on your new BMW with an aluminium threaded oil pan.

I would replace 5) with brakes servicing on the list. Engines usually go to 'machinists' I always wanted to put an unique noises finding/repair shop. By running the vehicle on dynamometer-like bumpy cylinders without the dynamometer Will be in my next life... To repair electronics, you need a very sharp smart electronics experienced technician, not a mechanic, as cars have not been built anymore, for about 20 years. They are computers with wheels. Mine has seven on board.

Sorry, left out 'household utilities' metering.

What is the typical operation limits of AC power meters ? Do they register -say 10 mA ? Water meters are unresponsive to a drip, drip, drip... Vanes do not turn at very low flow. Is there a typical minimum ? What does wear imply in them, -say ten years.

How would you prevent implosion of electret microphone ?
Externet replied to Externet's topic in Engineering
Wise assumption, John. For the slow and tiny atmospheric gradients. I wonder if rising 4 atmospheres in ~ten seconds will rupture the foil. The construction is gasketed and tightly crimped. Sometimes, the pcb-to-crimp is sealed with some adhesive for water tightness. Will perforate one to compare before-and-after performance. -
An electret microphone has air between the capacitive foils. To operate it in a pressurized 4 atmosphere air chamber, would have to be vented to prevent imploding. Could perforating a tiny, tiny 0.1mm hole in the electret foil cause concernible degradation on its performance ? Or, side venting the housing voids ? Or, ... ? The right column "Recent Status Updates"
Externet replied to Externet's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
Thanks. So I will translate/read "Recent Status Updates" as ---> "What is on your mind?". OK. And is there a place for real "member status updates" ? Those are not changes on the user 'titles' , or moderators that stop being such, right ? Titles (leptons, atoms...) are not used anymore, correct ? -
Western writing is from left to right, and using the right hand is more efficient or 'proper' Do languages written from right to left mean to a certain extent, that the eastern people is mostly left-handed ? Or pushed to be left -handed ? When my daughter started using pencils in preschool, she tended to be left handed. Which I pushed and encouraged to use the right hand. And worked since. Later learned my parents did the same to me.

Resided in San Francisco, California for many years and at a certain point, I was in the rare position to choose were in the whole U.S. to move for retirement. Fleeing from the 24-7 overcrowded crawling five lane freeways, banks, supermarket lines, forest of parking meters and other factors from 'Ripoffornia' state; decided to pick a location that was a surprise to many by method of decision; aiming to - No or least earthquakes, - No or least tornadoes, - No or least hurricanes, - No or least floods, - No or least forest fires, - No or least weather extremes. - No isolation from 'civilization' - No immersion in a big city. - Reasonable cost of living. - No or least gangs, crooks, crime. ----> Where would you choose to buy your home and reside from the above guidelines together ? And, would you add some other considerations to the list ?
