  1. With downsizing of meals, that I consider as manageable; there is another hurdle I read somewhere long ago : 'The body goes into packing reserve fat when there is less food intake in genetic? prevention of starvation'. Can anyone confirm such 'study' am quite certaint to have read ? Same as : 'The body goes into packing reserve fat when there is abundance of food intake in prevention of future scarcity'. Which collide. All science for belly fat reduction and fine tuning was inexistant thousands of years ago, and suppose obesity was very rare then. And both times of plenty and scarcity for sure existed. There has to be a key to the subject.
  2. Thanks, gentlemen. Seems a consensus that two factors would have to be addressed to keep a lean belly. - Quantity of food -manageable. - Type of food. -Harder in the 21st century with the mind of too many into pleasure, comfort, lazyness. If it is not of great taste, won't be eaten even by hungry ones. Seen people tossing perfectly nutritious food to the garbage can because was wrongly prepared and did not fit their taste buds. A measured portion of the correct food fine tuned to the amount of activity then, could keep a lean belly. That is what I believe hundreds of diet plans promote, and none appears to work to satisfaction. I say none because otherwise, everyone would be into that plan that does not show up yet. Thousands of years ago, our ancestors did have the right recipe, but got lost in time. Sugars turn to fat. Starches turn to fat. Fat turns to stored fat or is it burned right away ? Are proteins the ones that do not turn to fatty tissue ? Is gene manipulation the hope to be leaner and live longer ?
  3. Third commandment... "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" So is he lord, god, or something else ? Does the common daily Oh! my god ! fits right in becoming a mortal sin to say ?
  4. ¿? -- Is it wrong to say... - By nature, animals and we humans store energy in times of bonanza to help ensure survival in times of scarcity and that process is embedded in genetics. It happens when there is abundance of food, bellies grow and life can be sustained longer. - Health professionals and science assures being overweight shortens lives. * How come these are in straight collision paths ? Nature promoting at the same time survival and earlier death ? Is there a gene fault to immediately get rid of stored fat in times food intake becomes plentiful ? *Seems true, you do not see fat people in their seventies and eigthies. Fat ones are already dead by then.
  5. -Please move to 'speculations' if deserved- Can you foresee the magnitude of general public chaos in the U.S.A. if the metric international system was mandated ? Together with the kilogram, Celsius, litre, Newton... No more fluid ounces, tablespoons, miles, bushels, gallons, pounds, Farenheit, horsepower, feet, inches, acres, mils, 2"x4" that are not, BTUs,... On a one-year term to convert ? I just smile when hear ..."half pound hamburger has 16 grams of fat"... Lucky some things are already turned with medicines, imported products, the Volt is already here to stay. What is your perception in the subject ?
  6. What unit of measure was used when the distance from the pole to the equator was being measured to later define the metre ?
  7. Thanks, gentlemen. From Thorlabs, seems this should work similar as the mentioned Newport. About Wratten... Would they work for laser blocking ? About not letting a wavelenght to pass trough... Is it reflected or absorbed into heat by the filter, or there is both types ?
  8. Thanks, StringJunky. The links provided are mostly for passing specific wavelengths/bands, as far as my poor understanding. I bought chinese goggles once and were shit. So I want to learn first the (standing) questions on the original post, and then try good stuff or make my own inspection window that will fully block 350nm to 450nm and let pass 500nm to 800nm, for a laser that is composed of high power violet and low power red merged beams, to be able to aim/see a target with low power red and block high power violet. A little better seems to be picking 6. "2E" at the left column, shows the response, at ----> http://www.newportglass.com/kdkcat.htm
  9. Hi. Is it called the same in the filter industry: 'filter' ; and there is need to specify blocking or passing for a particular wavelength ? Example; am after a filter that will not pass wavelenght of 450nm and lower. Should I say 450nm and lower wavelenght blocking filter, or 450nm and above wavelenght passing filter ? Are Wratten filters waterproof ? If I choose a Wratten #4, does it mean it will be gelatin or should I specify glass ? If glass, does it mean there is a layer on its surface, or the glass material itself is dyed-embedded with the filtering properties ? Are Wratten filters useable, better or worse to make laser blocking protection goggles ? Is it possible to merge in the same beam, a red laser and a violet laser by use of a prism or something ?
  10. Thanks, gentlemen. If I can find clear PET film, would that be suitable ? Random pictures : ----> http://www.builditsolarblog.com/2010/09/nicely-done-pipe-coil-style-solar-pool.html ----> http://media.treehugger.com/assets/images/2012/06/how-make-solar-spa-heater-1.jpg.644x0_q100_crop-smart.jpg ----> http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7x5Njd5SutY/TIuXZFrD3cI/AAAAAAAAANY/T-pzYHgOjqg/s1600/TuscanyPoolHeater1.JPG
  11. Hi. What tough 'clear-to-heat' plastic film permanently exposed to sun, rain, wind (no snow) would you suggest ? Something similar to polyethylene. It is to cover a coil of black HDPE as for a solar water heater, shielding it from cooling winds and letting sun heat pass trough ? A life of 5+ year would be desirable. Greenhouse cover or there is something better ? A coil similar to this attachment, placed on top of a suitable heat insulating polyestyrene foam sheet, and covered by such film instead of glass or polycarbonate sheets.
  12. Greetings. We and science are stuck with the stupid heritage of 1 day = 24 hours; x 60 = 1440 minutes; x 60 = 86400 seconds. Now translated to Cesium vibrations... Has there been ever an attempt to reform the units, to something like 1 day = 100 'ruoh'; x 100 = 10000 'etunim'; x100 = 1000000 'dnoces' ( just to rename units ) 1 day = 1 million 'dnoces' or 1 Mdnoces (megadnoces) instead; 1 dnoces = 1 microday Or anyhow in the decimal system that would make more sense ? If humans ever populate another planet, will the senseless second be carried there or that own planet rotation as base should be considered ? It would be a total science chaos to choose a different time unit today, yes. Too late for that. Before the first clock was invented centuries ago and someone decided to split its dial in 12 sections, not 10, not 100; how was time told ? Like noon; a while after sunset; a while and a half before sunrise ?
  13. Hi all. Before the second was selected as time unit, before frequencies were measured, there were musical instruments that somehow, musicians brains selected what would a correct tuning of a note was, by ear. Is there some fixed brain perception related to a 'correct' note ? Like if there was no modern Hertz reference ? Is the musical reference scale based in exactly 440.000 Hz (for La / A) or somewhere nearby ? Is that an arbitrary choice ? How was that particular tone chosen ? If by 'magic' we could have a recording of 1000 years ago musicians; would it sound harmonically correct today ? For sure it would had to them. Yes, japanese and others have their own 'crooked' scale by today standard.
  14. When a country supplies aid, like weapons/war equipment... to a troubled country; the cost of such materials is paid to the equipment manufacturers turning the money printing machine on; or the recipient country pays in goods like petroleum ?
  15. Should depend on the IQ of the IQ test preparer/composer/designer.
  16. Off topic, wait until she sees a real typewriter...
  17. Just hit my head against my brick wall. A correctly posted first post, showing good skills of keyboard massaging; picture taking, editing, uploading, composing, attaching... Asking how to remove the insulation on a wire. Kids in these days have a different set of expertise from when we were 11 or so. Impressive. Well, we were kids learnig once too, and someone may have had such opinions from us then. Zeria : complement your experiments with a little reading of electrical theory; and keep going with your curiosity, that the road in front of you is loooong. Visit a friendly old fart and learn/observe handywork from him. Suggest you check youtube for removing insulation on a wire; it may serve your question on a better way.
  18. Thanks. Yes, the equations apply the same; I believe the 'fixed' force of a crossbow is different than an arm. The arm will not transfer maximum nor constant force to the ball for different ball weights, specially the paper/lead extremes. ('Impedance mismatching')
  19. Hi. First confirm that when joining the probes of the multimeter, the OF overflow changes to a near zero reading. If yes, check the alligator clips are secured to its wire and to the item biten, not to its insulation. Minimize the number of jumpers in the test. Those pictured are well known to fail the chinese way. If there is a bad jumper, you can find which with the multimeter.
  20. Those medieval castles with massive stone walls and in general, huge loads on soils, how were their foundations 'calculated', in ages with little tools, expertise, no reinforcing bars, portland cement, soils testing and engineering ? Many still standing, built with handcrafted and selected stones, erected with great efforts. Building sites mostly on solid grounds, but not all of them. Deterioration trough 4-5-6+ centuries show above ground, but, how good are their foundations after time elapsed ? How was that success achieved then ? The names and techniques of the engineers forgotten, the owners are the famous. ----> https://duckduckgo.com/?q=medieval+castle&t=canonical&iax=1&ia=images One at random ----> http://www.topcastles.com/kastelen.php?SubMenu=main&SelCastle=foixs&Language=en
  21. More injuries to the pitcher arm; but less injuries on unintended body impact; right ?
  22. Crazy idea ? Always thought cosmology = astrology = scam = not science.
  23. I do not know what Windows after XP is. Linux too, since 2005.
  24. Thanks. Those equations explain it. I wonder how would a real world baseball game be like using a ~85 gram ball.
  25. Hi. Creating this thread to not distort one related to a baseball and an arm... A crossbow of a given fixed force. An arrow reaches say 100 metres. A lighter arrow of same dimensions/aerodynamics will reach farther ? A heavier arrow of same dimensions/aerodynamics will reach farther ? (not about lethality/penetration on impact) For sure, an untralight arrow made of paper will not reach farther. For sure, a heavy arrow made of lead will not reach farther. How is its weight 'tuned' fox maximum flight distance ?
