  1. I read some explanations and definitions, still do not have it clear. Any simpler wording from any of you, please? (Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy) http://www.cis.rit.edu/htbooks/nmr/inside.htm http://www.scirus.com/srsapp/search?q=%22Chemical+shift%22&ds=jnl&ds=nom&ds=web&g=s&t=all From what I grabbed; when exposing an element to a magnetic field, its resonant frequency changes (shifts) certain frequency. As for Au, it is 1.712690 MHz. For Ag is 4.653623 MHz, ... Now, -That amount of shift corresponds to a fixed reference amount of field, say 7 Tesla. ? -Is the shift less for a lower intensity magnetic field ? -What are the Ag, Au resonant frequencies without the shift because of the field, or at its 'rest' condition ? Higher or lower Hz amount ? -Is there a 'decay time' of the shift after removing the magnetic field or is it instantaneous ? Miguel
  2. Get this one, dismantle it completely; you will have all the parts to make one by putting it together again, for the price of a book to learn how to make one: http://www.rcisland.com/nano4k_b.html Miguel
  3. Search for a video "Perendev motor" Miguel
  4. How does it work? When it does not work? Oily rag, on a corner, no ventilation, hot weather... What if not a rag, but a newspaper, or a soaked piece of wood with transmission fluid instead, or wet with vegetable oil, or not hot, or breezy ? Is there critical key conditions for this? Is it consistently reproducible under controlled conditions? Miguel
  5. Your best option is a compressor from a discarded refrigerator or airconditioner. Usually free, it really sucks ! -As much as you need, and available in many powers- Miguel
  6. Hello all. Many years ago, I used the services of a guy that removed all the glass from my car (except front windshield), and dyed them smoky bronze. His explanation consisted in carefully pouring (not spraying) his 'magic' recipe on the inside surface, kept the glass at an angle to let the excess drip and took a few hours to dry. Yielded an optically clear and smooth, scratch resistant hard finish. No bubbles, no streaks, no voids, highly wetting/bonding It may had an unintended -or intended- bonus of blocking IR. What would you suggest to do such, mixing some automotive clear coat with what dye/ink or something else ? Would proper spraying work well too ? Miguel
  7. Interesting... http://www.flixxy.com/alternative-fuels-research.htm
  8. I have a problem with all this... Two identical balloons, inflated to exactly -the same volume, with the -same shape, and -same roughness, -dropped from the exact same height -at the same time, will not touch ground simoultaneously if one is filled with air and the other with water. No way. Miguel

    cast iron?

A solar energy architecture book I have uses river stones exposed to direct sun all day. "Portable", cheap and with great heat mass. The spaces between a wall of them allows circulation to withdraw the there-heated air into a dwelling. Miguel
  10. Being a science mistery and also fact, I can only guess that has to do with the speed of heat transfer, by temperature gradient dt/ds. The greater the temperature differential per unit of distance from the core of the heated water to the heat absorbing cold surfaces, the greater the 'motion' velocity of heat. But unable to elaborate on this. Pouring the same amount of same water samples -in deformable identical closed containers, -then warming one up; -and then suspending them both in a freezing chamber -with no internal humidity should get rid of the uncertainty about dissolved gases, evaporation, influence of intimacy of contact with freezer walls, and damp air affinity to one of the containers. Hope it has been tried that way... Nope, cannot do it at home to try. ----Also read somewhere that to melt ice from a windshield, cold water works faster than hot. Is that related to the same effect Miguel
  11. Hi all. What is the pressure the ice would exert to a rigid hermetic strong enough container if fully filled with water and exposed to freezing ? Miguel
  12. Thanks. Why do you say "probably" ? Do you imply that if the water pressure is 100 Atm instead of 3 Atm the behavior would be different? Miguel
  13. Hi all. If a lenght of empty (with atmospheric air) aquarium hose is plugged with beads of silicone sealant at the ends; and placed inside a plain household water pipe... When the water pipe is placed in operation, at say 3 Atm water pressure, the hose inside will contract/deform due to the pressure. Would the plugs at the ends tend to burst outwards or inwards or will not be affected at all ? Just want to confirm am not missing something here... Miguel
  14. Women astronauts do not wear brassiere up there, do they?
  15. Right... concrete is a conglomerate of different materials; if to be dissolved to that fine particulate, the chemical would have to be capable of equally attacking all of the concrete components, sand grains, variety of stones, pebbles... A plain ball/hammer/crusher mill could take care of the large particles after the chemical attack. Should not be much energy after that stage of the pulverization. Guessing, a couple of horsepower mill (1500 Watts for 15 minutes =~400WH)should be capable of doing it. Specifications in commercial stone mills should give better figures . ->Edited - added : Checked briefly, one of dozens of sites: http://www.break-day.com/2-10.htm?gclid=CO6CzaHS0owCFQQRYwodQn1Ytw Miguel
  16. And what if the concrete block is dissolved by immersion in a suitable chemical ?
  17. Domestic water purifying depends on the contaminants. If bacteria, virus, microorganisms are the ones to get rid of, several steps are convenient, as filtering, boiling, and ultraviolet, being the most important action of all, to discard the filter as soon as possible, immediately after done with the batch. Filters are very dangerous stuff. For minerals, filtering and reverse osmosis should work. For both, i would go with distillation and chlorination. Miguel
  18. The main misconception and misunderstanding of magnetic interaction is caused by the asumption above ...." What happens to the formula, when the distance is Zero?"... The distance is never zero Because the poles are not points in the magnets; the pole are zones within the magnets. And they are inside, never at the ends, usually spaced at ~4/5 of the lenght of the magnet. Attempting to make a void in the zone of the poles, as to reduce the distance, does not work. The poles partially re-locate around the void. Otherwise, the distance between two magnet poles, if somehow became zero, the force of attraction/repulsion would be infinite. Miguel
  19. Seems so far it will have to be as Tater says, ..."baking soda and powdered citric acid"... Ascorbic acid is the same, right ? Miguel
  20. Hi. Is there any reaction or chain of reactions to obtain any alcohol (propanol, isopropyl, metanol, butanol ...) from calcium carbonate ? Miguel
  21. "...The hydroplane moves forward and rises in the water then the rider pushes down again..." Cannot comprehend how a rigid narrow fin can propel anything upwards when pushed downwards, and from observing the motion, the thing rises at the 'upward' stroke, -not as you say- without having flotation. The forward speed has to be the one creating the force pushing up under the wing, as on an airplane. Without forward motion, it just sinks no matter how much jumping on it. Guessing, the downstroke only provides forward speed somehow, and later in the cycle the forward speed pushes the underside of the wing back up. To happen, the angle of the fin should be changing from 'leading edge down' at the beginning of downstroke and changing to 'leading edge up' to lift at the end of the downstroke... That, I can visualize. For that, the 'wing' should be horizontal at about half submersion. Better said still guessing, the first half of the downstroke provides forward motion, the second half starts providing lift. Now the front canard is pivoted, its angle appears to barely change; going 'leading edge up'? when downstroking. There is some key cadence to keep it going, and calibrated elastics. What would be the effect of a wider wing? Perhaps would not synchronize to the natural human cadence (resonate to jumping) of ~1.5Hz ??? What is the energetic calculation to keep a ~60Kg human above surface, plus propel forward at >1m/s, against drag during for a couple of minutes ? That is the sum of vectors up and forward. Still lost in space... Miguel
  22. There is several versions of the contraption; here is one: http://www.instructables.com/id/EW28Z3LF18DW901/ http://www.instructables.com/id/EW28Z3LF18DW901/?ALLSTEPS And youtube shows these: Miguel
  23. Hello. This contraption keeps its flotation and its forward motion from the operator's movement; what mechanical actions and reactions are involved, and how does each element performs ? Miguel
  24. Hi. That is why chargers that plug in to the cigar lighter exist. Use one hooked to the battery observing proper polarity and you are done. Miguel
  25. It works ! Solar cells and Li-ion battery; precise timing source, dividing/counting logic board, stepper driver board and the mechanism. The black aluminium massive base on the mechanism provides a solid, ball bearing mount for the vertical shaft. The worm screw on the motor shaft steps once every minute, changes direction at 06:00 am and at at 06:000pm. The rotating table support for the mirror (shows a tiny mirror on the picture) Needs cosmetics and arranging all the electronics, inside the black base there is room for them. Miguel
