  1. 50,000 light years is still within our galaxy. The milky way is predicted to be 80,000 to 120,000 light years across and 7,000 light years thick. And we are about 26,000 light years from the galactic center located in one of the outer spiral arms. Obviously we are still here so our galaxy is not destroyed. The only thing that can destroy a galaxy is a collision with another one as far as I know.
  2. You don't seem to be able to grasp the fact evolution moves in very small steps over very long periods of time. Take the early apes we evolved from for example. They evolved the ability to stand upright because of the necessity to travel long distances over the newly formed grasslands that replaced the jungle. But it didnt happen all at once. The apes with the ability to move faster and avoid grassland predators had a much higher chance of survival than the slower ape so their genes get passed on. Over thousands of years small mutations kept building an ever faster ape. And it just so happens that bipedal locomotion is natures prefered method to move very quickly over long distances so here we are today.
  3. If you can't see the resemblance between humans and chimpanzees then you are either blind or in denial. And the modern bible is a load of crap thrown together by certain Roman's who wanted better control over society.
  4. Yes I think its possible if you set one to dial and one to recieve but it would be incredibly slow. The best solution would be to upgrade to ethernet.
  5. You would need a device that is capable of connecting to the GPS satellites, processing this data, then sending it via radiowaves to a tracking computer of some sorts.
  6. Rotation of the newly formed star causes most of the gas and materials in the area to form into a flat disk. Out of this accretion disk planets form. Thus in mature solar systems we get planets that are all on a similar plane.
  7. No. It depends on the composition of the planet. Earth's magnetic field is generated by its solid metallic inner core rotating in the outer liquid core. I have no idea how magnetic fields are generated in stars and gas giants but i'm guessing its a similar process.
  8. What if you were to send a particle going at .9999c in spiraling path around and area of space that was dragged in the direction of the partical. Would that allow for faster than light speed travel?
  9. I dont think you can get regular CD audio (.mp3/.wav/etc.) to separate into 5 channels because it was recorded for only 2 channel stereo. You can get it to play out of all 5 speakers but it wont be true 5.1. Now most DVDs on the otherhand were recorded and encoded to support using all 5 channels seperately.
  10. Fight begins once again for hubbles life. http://www.space.com/news/hubble_wars_050124.html Found this in my email today. https://www.slooh.com/savethehubble/contribute.jsp
  11. Found some links on the show I saw if anyone is interested. http://www.discoverychannelasia.com/timetravel/feature3.shtml http://www.walterzeichner.com/thezfiles/timetravel.html
  12. I was watching TV and came across a show on the science channel that claimed time travel was possible. This guy claimed that by using an array of lasers he could induce a frame dragging effect on the space/time around a device allowing him to send particles back in time. He also claimed that when the device was complete it should be possible to recieve messages from the future. Just wondering if there was any truth to this.
  13. Build a railgun.
  14. Titan would probably lose most of its atmosphere due to its lower mass.

  16. Rarely. Doesnt bother me though.
  17. benzodiazepines
  18. The James Web is infrared only. There is no planned telescope, ground or space based, that will exceed the hubble's capabilities. It is indeed a sad day.
  19. Perpetual motion is not possible. Friction will always exist. Newton's laws will always exist.
  20. Is there any way that I could use the single pole switches?
  21. Ive been working on a project and seem to have run into a problem. Im trying to wire up a DC motor w/ reverse using two spring push button switches and a single DC power source. I need to wire it up so that when one of the switches is pressed the motor will move foward and when the other pressed it will move in reverse. Ive been working on it for a long while and all Ive accomplished is frying some diodes. Could someone with a better understanding of electronics help me out?
  22. Sorry it should have read double plus unique.
  23. Alpha Centauri is very unique in that it is the closest system to our own sun (4.35 ly) and contains two sun like stars in a binary pair. According to this website, http://homepage.sunrise.ch/homepage/schatzer/Alpha-Centauri.html it is possible for planets to exist within 2 AUs of both stars. This distance also allows for planets to exist within both star's habital zone. Do we not currently have the technology to see if there are actually planets orbiting these stars? I always assumed the VLT interferometric array in Chile would be capable of doing the job.
  24. You'd need a distiller and pump for your drinking water.
  25. What is the best chemical for pulling water out of the air and where can I get some in semi-large quantities?
