  1. Sexual reproduction creates more variance, therefore is an advantage. As organismal complexity increased, so did the reproductive structures. Eventually seperation of sexes became an advantage; the organism carrying the young would stay hidden by it, having less of a chance to be killed. So it was an advantage to seperate.
  2. It's advantageous to have one specialized structure instead of two.
  3. Some (a lot) of people simply don't have that kind of mental ability The saddest thing is, society will become dumber because the cretins tend to breed more :/
  4. Where I got the first 4 is a contest Bacteria would be between Carbon-Based and Plant Life, but who's a carrot?
  5. You have no idea what you're talking about. Period.
  6. So people eating alot of cholesterol and having their arteries thicken is metal poisoning? We've identified the gene for Alzheimer's... so is our own DNA metal that poisons us? Same goes for autism (though polygenic)
  7. wrong wrong wrong wrong There is evidence for dark matter (but not dark energy yet) There's a very simple and logical explanation for multiplanetary systems staying in orbit. There's also evidence for gravitons The sun maintains its shape because of gravity. Try taking a basic astrophysics class, you obviously never have.

    I'm up for it, but you'll have to pay for everything
  10. Don't need to do anything complicated, new smilies can just be uploaded and added through the admin control panel. Send them to blike.

    Don't worry, I have a very wide range of interests, and an actual life too... not varying the routine a little would cause an early burnout, can't let that happen
  15. This forum is all yours.
  16. This is my new favorite thread.
  17. It would take a lot more than just stopping cell suicide, but it's an important step.
  18. My theory is... since telomeres (the caps of DNA that prevents unwinding (aka degrading)) are constantly becoming shorter, when they become very short, apoptosis (cell suicide) is triggered, in turn causing aging. It is my contention that treating cells with viruses programmed to increase telomerase production will inhibit apoptosis without causing tumors, as is associated with extreme cell growth. It's a bit more than a theory, it's already been shown to dramatically increase cell life, and is under review to treat signs of aging. I believe this may be applied to all cells that have shortening telomeres as an apoptosis activator, and in turn slow down the aging process.
  19. Helium is typically found in natural gases, where it composes around 7% of the total volume. It's then isolated and purified. Other sources (atmospheric, uranium ores, etc) are not nearly as abundant.
  20. Or until we can reduce the size of equipment needed for nuclear fusion and develop an extremely safe containment area. ;x
  21. if v = h0 * d, with v in km/sec (h0=km/sec/mpc, d = mpc... using h0 = 75), then in order for v =< c, d>=39,997,232,773 parsecs = 130,375,098,531 light years... the universe isn't 130 billion years old according to most models
  22. The lack of substantial evidence is precisely why I labelled him troll If he'll present the evidence he claims to have, the label will go away... and if he is lying about having legitimate evidence, then all the more reason for the label. User titles are arbitrary, lighten up.
  23. My two favorite calculus things: The integral of ln(x) is x*ln(x) - x integral of uv is uv - intg(v*du)
  24. That's what my post addressed, you wouldn't see that.
