  1. Light is the same speed for all observers. Two beams of light going in the opposite direction wouldn't appear to be twice as fast as light normally does. Very weird stuff :/
  2. The paths aren't shorter, there's just greater gravity acting on you (and no slingshot is needed). Straight lines aren't always the shortest, if space-time is sufficiently warped.
  3. What about it? Some organisms can tolerate it, some can only tolerate a little... it's just the salt (inorganic) that causes osmosis out of cells because of an extreme saline concentration on the outside.
  4. The odds are appr. 1 in 500,000. Higher in FL. The record is held by Roy C. Sullivan, who was struck by lightning 8 times before his death (which was not caused by lightning)

But you make $400k+/year and save peoples lives... and things like astrophysics and cosmology just frustrate me because I know the answers I seek won't even come close to being answered in my lifetime
  6. CNN is reporting on a newly discovered complex system of gravitational highways between planets. Using these would significantly reduce the cost of missions to other planets. The article is a little light on details, so post a comment if you're able to find a more detailed explanation of this.

I just said "certified" to distinguish it from those horribly inaccurate online tests that are always at least 20-30 points higher than they should be Welcome, and congratulations, you're our 50th member.

I apologize for unwanted spam. All spam is done by a cretin called jinx (cosii@aol.com) who has been long banned from this site. But, we can't argue with your position, if someone posts a spam on your site you're welcome to post one here. :/
  10. I'd recomend An Introduction to the Theory of Numbers by Edward Maitland Wright, Godfrey H. Hardy It's very comprehensive and widely considered one of the best books on number theory.
  11. Typically number theory prerequisites are advanced geometry (Euclidean and non-Euclidean), calculus 2, vectors/matricies, and discrete math.
  12. No absolute, proved theory contadricts this.
  13. I'll answer tomorrow, it's too late to think about it
  14. BTW, this is the 100th thread on this site after only 2 weeks up
  15. Linear algebra is included within the range of topics for Modern/Abstract Algebra. Should sufficient interest be shown, we'll create a new subforum for just linear... but since the post count is 0, we'll lump it with those others for now
  16. The fundamental theorem is just saying the area under a curve, from a to b, is equal to the integrals value with b minus a Take f(x) = x F(x) = (1/2)x^2 If we want to find the area under y=x from x=0 to x=1, we take (1/2)1^2 = 1/2 and subtract (1/2)0^2=0 So, the area is 1/2 Look at f(x) as the slope at that point, so you find the 'original' equation. A Riemann sum is an approximation. Some functions cannot be integrated, such as x^x. These must be approximated using end-points and the mid-point to estimate the area. This is usually not an exact value, unlike normal integration.
  17. You need to explain how you arrived at your conclusions, people cannot make an informed decision on their validity without one. Feel free to keep on posting without one, I'll just move it on over to metaphysics (recategorization, not censorship). This thread is closed because of profanity on your part.
  18. Go drink a gallon of everclear (organic/95% alc), and see what happens to your mental abilities
  19. The point of the matter is, I would like you to provide reasoning for your outrageous claims. Can you honestly say, as a [self-proclaimed] scientist that it is appropriate to challenge the foundations of physics and biology, and not provide an explanation?
  20. Galileo, again, HAD EVIDENCE. They wouldn't listen to his evidence. I would be happy to listen to yours, but we go right back to your inability to produce it.
  21. I haven't heard of any organisms, right down to single celled ones, that plutonium doesn't kill. All organisms require a proper balance of organic and inorganic compounds; both are essential.
  22. Of course we can't tolerate all inorganic compounds. We cannot tolerate all organic compounds either. Alcohol is organic (multiple covalently bonded carbon atoms, the definition of organic molecules), it kills all the time. Most naturally occuring poisons are organic also. Calcium is not organic, without calcium you'd have no skeletal structure or nervous system.
  23. Which adds to its lack of scientific quality. And Einstein didn't have extensive evidence contradicting his conclusions.
  24. DMT is your best bet for that. Or a near-death experience.
  25. It's not out of phase, simply too fast for the human eye to see. We see at about 25fps. FOr invisibility to occur, all incident light would simply need to be redirected away so no light bounces back to the source. In sci-fi, this is accomplished by warping space-time, which certainly would work if we could do that.
