Technology is covered either by engineering or computer science->hardware

That's assuming the lifetime of our species is short; but give us a couple billion more years I'm sure we'll find a way... and that statement is also ruling out interference from another species who had a few billion years head start on us.

If you consider the british to be a different race, you are the racist.

This forum is to discuss the existence and nature of life outside of Earth, including Mars, Europa, asteroids, and beyond; including statistical probability, methods of searching for life, and the potential impact on the scientific community of discovering new forms of life. Please refrain from conspiracy theories concerning UFOs, these will be moved to the pseudoscience forum.

Saddams head should be put on a pike and broadcast on aljazeera with the message "You're next Osama"

Yeah, the malls are full of large old men dressed up in a costume and getting little kids to sit on their lap...

Thanks to everyone for making yesterday the highest amount of posts in a single day in ScienceForums.net history! The previous record was 314, we beat that by 25 posts, and it would have been by more if the site didn't go down for a while. Keep up the postage!!

Those of us who have been around here a while will remember rikky from back in the day around here, and more recently his post about the inertia of buttered toast on a cat.

The entire UK is getting on my nerves.

It's not possible according to my calc2 professor, who is the queen of algebraic rearrangements (99% of the time spent doing problems in class is her going through ways to algebraically manipulate problems, that actual calculus only takes a couple seconds)... that's where I got this problem. If it is possible to come up with a generalized solution, it's certainly not just an simple substitution. (Further evidence for that statement is that none of the CASs out there can solve it for the general case)

It's quite possible to envision doing something using solely images, but humans do that alot less commonly because language was such an advantageous evolutionary development it became the primary means of thinking.

You have no idea how much I hate convergence of infinite series and proofs of it right now. Comprehensive calc2 exam with 1/3rd of it on series in 27 hours :/

Any internationl war crimes tribunal would not be able to seek the death penalty, whereas trial by the US or by the coalition in Iraq including Iraqii members would almost certainly be able to seek it, which is a sentence I suspect would go over quite well with the Iraqii people.

Of course if you sit in a microwave, DNA will be damaged by the heating of your body.

You could catch blikes car in a tank, but mine is too fast.

I doubt he'll be tried in Iraq.

You have failed to point out the advantage of knowing how to waste hours working of dif.eqs over knowing how to use a CAS to solve the problem in a few seconds.
-
No, you're taking it to fullfill the general education requirements for your degree.
-
Learning basic math is entirely different from learning advanced calculus. I support learning basic math (through algebra 2), but in calculus 1 and higher non-math/physics majors should be allowed to use a CAS.

If we were really after oil in Iraq we would have taken in in the Gulf War. The UN required Iraq to produce documents outlining what happened to their chem/bio weapons. They failed to do this. If the UN expects countries to follow their laws, they should try enforcing them once in a while. Oppose the war all you want, but don't be so bold as to accuse the US of violating international law for enforcing the threat of force approved earlier by the UN when the UN was afraid to act.

sayonara joined only a couple weeks after the beginning, and I maintained a lead for a year and a half through higher post count daily average, and I will once again return to the top as soon as exams are over.

But you're ignoring MY point. I already said students in things like math and physics should be required to learn it; but advanced calculus is also required for many biology, chemistry, marine science, psychology, and other students who don't need to know how to do things without a CAS. Students are forced to learn things, it's called general education requirements. You're forced to take (and pass) courses that you have absolutely no interest in. Who's more likely to be hired; the guy who can use a calculator to work out solutions to problems, or the theorotician who can sit there and work out every little detail but cannot grasp the real-world implications of a bunch of numbers and symbols?
