  1. I thought that too, but the thread appears to have vanished. Either we're both confused, or it's been physically removed Anyway, back to the subject at hand: Once again, no it isn't. 'Zero' 'Point' 'Energy'.
  2. I missed this first time around. I suspect that your model is, at best, incomplete; an aether implies an absolute frame of reference for the universe, and that went out with Newton, let alone Einstein.
  3. 'Control samples' are the basis of experimental method. When you're doing an experiment, you're basically testing what changing one variable has on a subject. For example, you could be testing how differently coloured light affects the rate of photosynthesis in plants. You do this test (say, shining blue light at a fern) and you get your results. What do they mean? This is where the control comes in. The control sample is one which has all the conditions from the test, except the one your are testing. So, in the example, for the control you have white light, or no light, shining on it (depending on how you want to work the test). It's basically the thing you're testing in it's vanilla state. Without having a control sample, the experiment is meaningless, because you cannot know whether the data you have gathered was a result of the thing you are trying to test, or whether something in the setup of the experiment caused it. With a control sample, you have a base to compare with.
  4. Yes, it makes perfect sense to pay a premium for a product which you will have already! (Mobos come with ATA cables) SATA is faster than (P)ATA, that's the entire point of it. Still not as fast as SCSI though.
  5. Re: O/P. You'd have to have fuel anyway, for course corrections and the like. If you miss in your system, bad things occur. Very quickly. Faraday Cage
  6. Try to work out how many cables it has. If it's only 40, then it will be pre ATA66 (I think the lower standard was 33, but I'm not sure). If it's 80 or more, then it'll be at least ATA66. (Note that the connectors are the same; the additional 40 wires are just grounds for all the existing cables).
  7. Of course, the speed of the cable is irrelevent if it's equal to or greater than the speed of both the motherboard and the IDE components it will be linking.
  8. I agree with everything except: We can't say anything about the relative sizes of subgroups, especially given that we exist in a rarified environment, so any anecdotal evidence is even more useless than it usually is. It is, however, entirely within the realms of possibility that most of the users of BT share those beliefs (not likely, I'll grant you), which makes the quoted point irrelevent.

    Σ2=9600

That formula is for the SUM of a geometric series, not to find any individual term. Using the same notation (a as initial value, r as ratio and n as number of terms), the equation to find the term is ar^n.
  10. Why would this happen? No it wouldn't, for reasons I mentioned earlier.
  11. You do, however, know that others exist. It's quite possible (and, in my experience) fairly likely that people will only know of BitTorrent through Suprnova, and assume that it's both proprietry and unique. There was a guardian column that made just such an assumption a few months back.
  12. It all depends on your interpretation of the word 'for' in the original post. You interpreted it from the point of view of the internet as a whole, rather than of the individual users.
  13. Why do you have to do it without people knowing?
  14. If I don't know of it then, for me, it is not an option.
  15. Ooh, satirical.
  16. That's only cloning if he has already got a super human. Otherwise it's genetic engineering, and given the genome is so complicated, I doubt we're going to see large scale eugenics any time soon. http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=clone Eh? If you're ignoring basic ethics, then a good reason for it is to have a decent control sample for testing drugs or wombic effects on. Of course, if you go by common ethics, there are still a multitude of things you can do. Hell, you could probably do the things I mentioned already ethically. Clone a fellow who had certain problems, see if the clone grows up with them. Would lead a normal life otherwise. On the other hand, they might not. I don't see why this is a counterargument, anyway. What's so bad about disposable humans?
  17. For me, the only place to get milk late at night is the garage across the street. It doesn't matter that there's a 24 hour tesco in luton, if I don't know of it or can't access it.
  18. I know it's not technically illegal, but I (personally) don't think this discussion is appropriate. PM blike or sayonara and get their point of view; I will, of course, abide by their decision. Until then, thread closed.
  19. Why are they in any way inhuman? Furthermore, why do you seem to believe that cloned organ transplants would become common without clinical trials?
  20. It will be ATA33 AT FASTEST, whereas today we're running up to 133 (more usually 100, mind). It will be MUCH slower.
  21. Well, it's fairly clear he has access to another computer, otherwise he wouldn't be able to post here.

    1and1

This better not be a 'lol when people have sex' thing.
  23. It's very difficult to diagnose a computer remotely, and even more difficult to treat it. See if you can get a local computer shop to take a look at it: they can test things you can't (individual components, mostly).
