Interactive black hole feature at Hubblesite
Forensicmad replied to Martin's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Yes, that is a very good simulation. I quite enjoyed it. Very informative. I suppose one nit-pick is that in the simulation where it shows the death of a star (size of your choice), for the larger ones, it still says "Red Giant". Shouldn't it say "Red Supergiant"? Thats the best i could find I liked the fact that you could play around with it and then click a button to learn quite a lot about what you are looking at. -
Manually creating a hole in the magnetic field?
Forensicmad replied to Forensicmad's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
Sorry, yeah. I mean solar particles and solar wind. Just an idea for my book. -
http://www.newscientistspace.com/home.ns I use this as my homepage. Some articles are subscriber only though unfortunately but not a lot. Still a great source for astronomy news.

I thought i had seen something like the camera you are looking for. Found it: http://www.goldenshop.com.hk/AI-trad/Misc_htm/m_wspycam.htm 45 degree angle, 300ft range, wireless and quite small too so the extra bags might not be necessary

Why would they even want to? If they do that, they are acting even worse than China which is totally dispicable. To ban everyone's free rights to use the internet is to ban everybody to speak - in a literal sense. I mean why? Politics these days - load of crap.

As Homer once said: "What is mind? No matter. What is matter? Never mind. Hee hee hee."

Dinosaurs, more recent than we thought?
Forensicmad replied to starbug1's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
From the 'Flat Earth Society website': "Once again, picture in your mind a round world. Now imagine that there are two people on this world, one at each pole. For the person at the top of the world, (the North Pole), gravity is pulling him down, towards the South Pole. But for the person at the South Pole, shouldn't gravity pull him down as well? What keeps our person at the South Pole from falling completely off the face of the "globe"?" That made me hold my head in shame. Seriously, these people can't really think like that can they? -
What do you mean 'buy bootcamp'? Its a free 83mb download. Just go to http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ to download By the way, after many years of PC experience in my case, when i recently bought my mac mini, it blew my mind away. It truly is a 'beautiful' machine and handles very well. I don't even worry at all about malware or viruses anymore; i was paranoid about them on my PC - just shows how much confidence I have in it. The applications built in are amazing for working use. To be honest, I favour the macbook.

I personally always use 1. Ever since I started typing, which is many years ago, I have always used 1. Only recently did I find that 2 was common practise. I don't think it really matters. My English teacher never cared, nor history. Looking at my Grandad's newly released book, it appears there is only 1 space - that may be due to the justification though. To be honest, I would go with what the publisher says; they know what they are talking about.

Aren't exploding black holes negentropic?
Forensicmad replied to SmallIsPower's topic in Astronomy and Cosmology
I cannot wait until I do my astrophysics course and A-Level physics - i love black holes but I have absolutely no idea what you guys are all on about! I cannot wait! In a few years, i will finally understand. Preserve your knowledge guys/gals, i want to have complicated discussions like this later on. (sorry for this pointless post) -
Exactly, I wouldn't wait around reading what the parachute has to say. As long as it it a parachute and not a knapsack, its good enough for me. If you don't jump you're dead anyway, no need to worry over which one to take. I'd just take the closest one - probably wouldn't have even read them.

First confirmed evidence of alien life
Forensicmad replied to whap2005's topic in Evolution, Morphology and Exobiology
IF they do turn out to be of extra-terrestrial origin, i want to be one of the first people to say: I KNEW IT! -
After a bit of playing around, I made my own latent fingerprint revealing kit. I made a website (DIYforensics) but that got abandoned after I found that the numbers of forensic tests that could be done in your house was very thin. Here is the link to making your own Cyanoacrylate fuming method: http://www.freewebs.com/diyforensics/Cyanoacrylate%20fuming%20method.html'>http://www.freewebs.com/diyforensics/Cyanoacrylate%20fuming%20method.html This is my actual website: http://www.freewebs.com/diyforensics/ Hey, if any of you others know how to do any others, put them here and I can restart that website! Hope yours goes well. Remember, "Warning, the gas produced can irritate eyes and lungs. Do not breath in or look too near the gas when it is not being contained". I learned that from personal experience when I was emptying it - even outside! I found that opening it outside and leaving it works. If anyone does do this experiment, please could you tell me the outcome. Thanks.

Never heard of that Multi-verse theory - interesting. If a new universe is created for EVERY choice, thats got to be quite a few of them out there. I wonder about the universe that was created to face the choice of not bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. If we live in the one where we did, I wonder what the world is like which plays the story of not bombing them. Something to think about.

As a player of BF1942 for the last 3 years, I can safely say it is an amazing game. With all the modifications (i.e. Desert Combat, Forgotten Hope) that you can install on top of it, it will keep you entertained for hours. When I had my old computer which had the most bog standard graphics (Intel Extreme Graphics) and 512mb of RAM, I could still play it. Sure, it was laggy at times but it kept me going. Due to that rubbish computer, that was roughly the only game i could play so while saving, I only played BF1942 and the mods for over a year and to be honest, I never got bored. Battlefield is a great game but I am sure you can get it cheaper than $50. Here you can get BF1942 and all the expansion packs (which not many people play) plus Battlefield Vietnam - another exellent game - That is $26.95 Or you could go for the bog standard BF1942 for $17.82 here Searching Amazon.com is a good bet for getting a good deal. Hey, you could get both the chemicals and the game. Well, thats me done. If I do see you on the battlefield, look out for Proton. If you have any questions about Battlefield, just ask me.

Thanks very much! Aerospace was one of the things I was already skeptical about. Astrophysics certainly looks promising now

Just bumping this. I'm trying to get as much information as possible. If anyone knows any of the answers, please give them.

Thank you very much for all your help! Good luck with your course btw.

Hi, I am deeply interested in space and all the physical workings of it. I am 16 and so thinking to the future. I have had no career advice whatsoever. I am thinking about taking a degree in astrophysics or maybe aerospace. I am wondering which career paths would open up after taking such a degree. Would it be wide or narrow? I have already searched the forum and found another thread like this one but that was all based on information in America and I am over here in England. I was just pondering on some questions which I hope you may have the answer to: 1. What sort of things would you learn on the course? 2. What sort of things would you do on a daily basis as an astrophysicist/aerospace engineer? 3. In your opinion, do you think things would get repetitive over a long period of time? Would it be something I could enjoy for the rest of my working career? 4. (Of course) what is the pay like for such a career? I would be nice to end up in a field I love but it would be even better getting paid well for it. Thanks all. BTW, if you know of any professional astrophysicists in the Milton Keynes or Buckinghamshire area of England, could you also give me that. Thanks.

That is an excellent, beautiful animation. Very informative. And it does pose a very intriguing question; just where did the liquid methane go? Thanks for the video

Wow, maybe the beginning of our existance in a little piece of rock. Or perhaps, it could be a message from an alien civilisation indicating their presence by sending out the building blocks of thier life. (You never know ) Very interesting nonetheless
