  1. The probability is also dependent on whether my disabling the Calendar module also turns off the birthday display. Hmm.
  2. Yes. However, you're strongly limited in giving negative reputation -- you can give ten positive reputation points in a day, but only one negative one. (I think that's how it's set up. If it isn't, that's what I'm changing it to. I'll see if there's a way to change that. There wasn't last I checked.
  3. You should definitely send a link to this around to everyone in your office: http://blog.xkcd.com/2009/09/02/urinal-protocol-vulnerability/ It was annoying back in the dorms because we had four stalls, not three, so even when there were two open you had to violate the Protocol to pick one. And man, some of those people made strange noises. Side note: my dad works in noise control. For a while now I've been nagging him to design the HushFlush, a silent toilet design that doesn't echo or amplify. He'd make a fortune.
  4. If you have continuing problems with the forum being slow and locking up your computer, I suggest scrolling to the bottom left to the style selector drop-down (it currently says "SFN") and selecting IP.Board Mobile. It's a layout designed for mobile phones that have trouble with loads of graphics and huge pages. If you do try it, a hint: the button in the upper-right (to the right of "Science Forums") is actually a drop-down menu with search and a few other things. If there's anything specific you find clumsy ("the button to do x is hard to find"), let me know. I'll be adjusting, tweaking and redesigning as time goes on.
  5. Click the button by their username for more info about them.
  6. There's a surprising amount of stuff that has to be fixed when you convert forums.

Have a couple problems Capt. I have a problem with keeping contact with the forum. How long time wise do you have before needing to log on again?

"Wow", Man, my question was ugly! I'll try the next one when this is resolved.

I think you get an hour before you have to log in again.

  7. It's strictly limited. You can't change more than twice a year, and I may change that to once a year. I'm not sure, though; I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.
  8. And fundamental particles are point-like and do not expand.
  9. The +/- feature alters your reputation. You just can't leave comments.
  10. You can't attach through Quick Reply, so be sure to hit Add Reply if you intend to attach. Then scroll down just below the post box to Attachments, browse, upload, and so on.
  11. Could you be more specific? The contrast between text and background is nearly the same as it used to be.
  12. Hmm. Could you characterize this slowness? Does it take forever for anything to happen, or does the page start slowly appearing on your screen one line at a time, or is it just unusable for a while as images and other things load? I'll look into what speed improvements could be made, but I'd like to get a handle on where the bottleneck is. Whoops. There was a stuck PHP process using most of our CPU for a while there. Perhaps that was part of it.
  13. So. If you were in charge, what would you change about the new ScienceForums.Net?
  14. Probably some sort of scam or spam.
  15. I'm not sure where the dimmer setting is in IPB. I'll have to look.
  16. Members can optionally change their "display names" -- the name that is shown in threads and so on. (The username they use to login stays the same.) The display name history lets you see what names someone's used in the past.
  17. Just a quick note for future reference: I've renamed General Discussion to The Lounge to reflect its goal on SFN. We'd like The Lounge to be a place for informal chat about your life, your job, and so on, and not just a dumping ground for threads that don't fit elsewhere. So enjoy the new Lounge, and be sure to put the Cheese Nips back in the pantry when you're done.
  18. I'm afraid no such thing exists. You'll have to rely on the search results directing you to the first unread post in the thread, as they're supposed to.
  19. Air conditioners work by extracting heat from the air inside a building and dumping it in the air outside. If you're air-conditioning the outside, where do you put the heat? You can't just make heat vanish.
  20. In the upper right (to the right of "Science Forums") is a small button with what appears to be a quotation mark inside it. Tap that and you'll get a menu with New Content as one of the options.
  21. That's what the buttons are supposed to do. If you want to find every post you've made, ever, or every thread you've made, ever, use the Find My Content link on the left of your profile. Status updates are a sort of social aspect to the forum. You can post anything -- what you're up to, what you're thinking about, whatever -- and other members can comment. It's pointless, really, but it builds the community by letting you converse with other members.
  22. Hmm. Could you take a screenshot of this problem and show me? If there's some text being obscured, I'll have to fix it.
  23. That what you're looking for?
  24. Click the small icon by anyone's name and you'll get a drop-down with their details and useful links. If you'd like an avatar, you can visit the Change Avatar page in your settings. There's some tabs: You can flit between them to get different views - status updates, About, recent topics, and so on. It'll notify you of new replies to that topic. Take a look at the Intro to the New SFN for more details on this.
  25. We need a People for the Ethical Treatment of Gambling Pets organization.
