I may well do that, now that you suggested it.

I just upgraded through one version of Ubuntu (our operating system). That'd be why SFN was down for several hours today. There's one more version past this that I'll have to upgrade to -- I'll probably do that late tonight when there are less people online. Things do feel a bit better though.
-
That's not the phrase you've been using it. The last time you used the word "incorrectness" on SFN was in October 2007. That's not "just" what you're doing, but you do tend to assume others have motives and agendas that they may well not have.
-
I would personally be rather disturbed if people stopped agreeing with other people when they share viewpoints, and if they stopped disagreeing with people who disagree with them. I am currently, however, most disturbed by the assumptions of motive being used. Perhaps I will make an amendment to the forum rules: "Assume good faith."

I doubt it. If that's still happening (it may have been happening yesterday, but I made a settings change last night that I hope fixed things) I'll have to look through the error logs to find the issue. I had no problem making a post last night. You can change the name (e.g. "Cap'n Refsmmat's Blog of Doom") but not the URL (e.g. "blogs.scienceforums.net/capn"). The time delay is a deterrent to keep spammers from using the blogs and to limit blogs to quality members. I may lower it to under a month sometime. We'll see if there are any problems and work from there.

That point wouldn't be anything interesting, as far as I know. I'm guessing you're right about using average total cost.

That is related. I'm still utterly befuddled by it, though. I may try upgrading the server's operating system, since we're stuck with older versions of the webserver right now... Right, so a few settings changes seem to have sorted things. If you see any errors please tell me so I can look into them.

There are 1000cm3 in one liter, so the density (in an easy form) is 1329g/L. In one liter, 571.6 grams are water, and the remainder is sulfuric acid. Figure out how many moles are in that remainder and divide by the number of liters you have (one) and you have molarity.

Sorry about the slowness and occasional errors you may be experiencing on SFN. Something very strange is happening and I'm still trying to figure it out. Hopefully I'll soon be able to sort out the problem and get things working. (If any of you know why lighttpd may be failing to communicate with PHP over FastCGI, talk to me.)
-
Definitely.

That is, as soon as I make them work again. Whooops. (If you're having trouble posting on your SFN blog, I'm on it.)

Fine with me. There's another thread along similar lines anyway.

Perhaps you missed my point. Stop relying on the dictionary. It defines the common meaning of terms, the meaning used day-to-day by ordinary people. We are concerning ourselves with physics. What the dictionary says is irrelevant. What matters is the commonly accepted definition of these things in physics. And if you're wondering about the definition of time, read up.
-
Sayonara's signature used to contain a counterargument to that, but since it doesn't: "Dictionary.com is not a technical resource." Dictionaries record the common meanings of terms, not the precise definitions given to them by science.

SkepticLance never gave a reason. He just dismissed the 7 sins as a Pope's ravings.

It is this sort of negativity against religion that ruined SFN's philosophy & religion forum. Please try to restrain yourself.

That's sort of an appeal to tradition, although I think I'm bending the definition there. In any case, is it really proof of the "torture" status of anything to say that we called it torture before? Times and definitions change. In other words, McCain's argument is another way of just saying "[insert important figure here] says it's torture!" (Not that I disagree that waterboarding is torture -- I'm being devil's advocate here. Any argument is fair game.)
-
The assume good faith rule applies on SFN, too. If you want this argument to remain civil, please play your part in it as well.

That's what deionization does. The water's already deionized.

So an object that does not move does not experience time? How do you define the reference frame for this motion? If we apply relativity, surely two objects with constant speed could justly claim that each experiences no time because their reference frame can be defined as the viewpoint of either. Time is a fundamental quantity that we can measure through periodic events.
-
I don't know if that's their direct intention, but that's the consequence.
-
We don't have a good working definition of gravity (gravitons? some sort of field? warped space-time? We need more experimentation) and we can measure it accurately.

Indeed. You'll pass out and begin to breathe again. Breathing is a reflex, and it's hard to suppress when you're unconscious.
