  1. That usually requires an external tool to kill yourself with. We're talking mental suicide -- "look, ma, no hands!"
  2. The book is not the definitive source on relativity, it's a book designed to explain it to people. The definitive source is the series of papers Einstein published on the subject.
  3. No, he means deionized water.
  4. If you are willing to redefine "time" to mean what you want, and not what is accepted, then certainly time dilation may not occur. As far as I know there is no "definition" of what time "is." Time is a fundamental quantity we can measure. Whether it is a fourth dimension or some strange flow is totally irrelevant. We observe that what we measure changes depending on velocity and gravity. That's what matters. We are limited in our understanding of phenomena by how we can measure them. Your question is similar to asking "what is space?" It's extraordinarily difficult to define, but it has certain characteristics we have observed and we can measure.
  5. No it doesn't. And cold things don't experience slower time, either.
  6. The Geneva Conventions apply chiefly to war, not to all prisoners at all times. Torturing a prisoner (but not a POW) isn't against the Conventions, as far as I know.

  8. How's this title fit? and iNow, he nearly became "The Artist Formerly Known as Lockheed," actually...
  9. I know someone who went to one of those, and she says she really enjoyed it. I don't remember which it was though.
  10. I think it's five people. I can tweak that, though.
  11. Nice way to leap to conclusions there.
  12. As for bicycles, it depends on what you eat to get the calories to ride. I recall reading that driving is often more "efficient" than walking if your calories were supplied by steak -- the CO2 emissions from the production of the beef are greater than those from the gasoline in your car. Hence why we need pint-sized cows in everyone's back yards to make things efficient.
  13. [thread]29703[/thread] [thread]29661[/thread] (post #19) I see you're responsible for most of the threads on Godel here on SFN. Clearly you'd be familiar with the past ones, then. Why not look back and see what others have told you before? Now stop posting the same thread over and over. We're getting sick of it.
  14. 30ft isn't very far. You could get away with some surgical tubing in a slingshot arrangement if you wanted to make it simple.
  15. Moved.
  16. How far do you want to be able to launch the egg? You could just build a slingshot deal with some oversized rubber bands...
  17. I haven't been to either, but I know that at most decent bookstores you can find college review books that cover what life is like at hundreds of colleges across the US. I've heard that MIT is a very competitive atmosphere, but I haven't heard anything about Cambridge.
  18. And we do have a tutorial.
  19. Changed. You'll have to log in as Reaper now.
  20. It's not my fault you're not an administrator.
  21. I merged the spam together for your viewing pleasure. Mind the porcupines.
  22. By hand, in [math][/math] tags. You don't need to worry about $$ and \[ sort of things.
  23. I can change it if you tell me what name you'd like.
  24. One must never underestimate the dangers of a porcupine addiction.
  25. I have this Hersheys bar that suddenly sounds like it could use a good microwaving...
