  1. That's probably the trouble. That's not nearly concentrated enough to do anything like fill up a balloon unless you use a lot of it.
  2. How concentrated is the hydrogen peroxide you're using?
  3. I recall seeing a picture of this sort of thing, but I don't know how good my memory is or where I saw it. It was pretty neat though -- it was two rows of mirrors aimed at each other and angled so the laser would bounce from one to the other down the line. I think.
  4. You do realize that the video was probably horribly biased, don't you?
  5. Differences in basic senses are not the same as differences between people's interests. Also, psychologists do not normally categorize people in "simplistic" categories. Most will admit that not everyone fits, and every case has to be examined separately. If it was just "you act crazy, so you need Pill X," being a psychiatrist would need no talent.
  6. The point is that they at least do something about the laptops. But they can't ask you to put your shirt through the X-ray, I don't think.
  7. People often walk into airports with laptops. People don't, however, walk in with wires sprouting from their chest. Mind you, they already have procedures in place for laptops, requiring you to turn them on and all that.
  8. Gods don't have to worry about the amount of address space available.
  9. Blimey, FDC Servers needs a new abuse department. Time to install the open proxy checker plugin.
  10. But then we'd have to worry about terrorists armed with Goof-Gas.
  11. Something that ticks loudly.
  12. Usually gray and inconspicuous, indeed. A little dye can always cure that, of course. Modeling clay would be a good description, although it's more malleable than clay (unless the clay's been kneaded a good bit).
  13. I propose an ISO standard defining a bomb to look like a black sphere with a small fuse protruding from the side.
  14. Whoops. I went back and sent the response.
  15. I might point out that Play-Do does uncannily resemble C-4. They feel about the same too. It's just that C-4 is most certainly not non-toxic
  16. You're assuming that a terrorist will follow the stereotypical bomb guidelines and build the bomb into a BlackBerry or something. If something so blatantly obvious as a breadboard and a battery can get through security, why not disguise a bomb as a breadboard and some batteries?
  17. Attached is a picture showing what you should see when the chat comes up. Simply type what you want to say in the box outlined in red and you'll see it appear in the white bit along with other people's responses. There may not be many people talking at any one time -- quite often the chat goes for an hour or two with nothing said. But say something and usually someone will perk up.
  18. If she had gotten through security, I could imagine the new strategy being "make your bomb as blatant as possible so they don't think it's a real bomb."
  19. I don't know either, but it apparently involves a sticky Caps-Lock key.
  20. Well, there's only one evolution category in the system - the script grabbing them out of the DB and putting them out on the category list page is borked, I think. If it's actually true but people think it isn't, we'll debunk the skeptics. Indeed it is, because I had to send an abuse message about Atomikpsycho and I wanted the hosts to be able to see his posts. Members would be great.
  21. Ben, I thought I already signed you up when Snail said you were interested. Anyway, thanks to everyone who's sent an email. I'm surprised I got this much of a response. I'll soon try to get some articles going and real work going on so we can test out our procedures and get moving. It shall be fun.
  22. As insane_alien said, elements on the right of the periodic table have more valence electrons and more protons to help pull the valence electrons in. This makes the elements slightly smaller.
  23. If you say you're a professor at Fred Smith U, we go to their website and see if that professor exists. You'd preferably send from your institution e-mail. insane_alien: the other option is to make your self-description as amusing and interesting as possible. It doesn't have to be a prior essay, just something that shows you can write.
  24. Yes, that's what I intend to do. The name there is one I made up - I'm waiting for experts to populate the list there. Lockheed: received the email. You should get something back soon.
  25. Send an email to the address listed in the links. We'll need your email address anyway, as we're coordinating everything through mailing lists. (Low-tech, but they're good for this purpose.) Our focus will be: Pseudoscientific claims Common science myths Conspiracy theories involving science but not Urban legends Any old conspiracy theory An explanation of a scientific discovery More info here.
