  1. You may be able to check on how many points you have left by visiting your own profile or through the UCP; I'm not really sure how it works.
  2. It's mostly the email servers. Once the email is uploaded to your email service provider, their servers simply zip it off as fast as possible (and that's usually very fast) to its destination.
  3. Something like this, you mean? [math]\vec{A_x} = (A_x)\hat{i}[/math] (Google rocks.)
  4. If it was possible, this guy would be short a million bucks.
  5. Start by learning about this.
  6. Practically every large bookstore I've been to has a computers section with multitudes of books on A+ certification. Just look through the stacks and find one that looks good.
  7. Check that your Windows CD can boot another computer. It may be scratched or it may be corrupt.
  8. That would be your best bet, but it would also overwrite GRUB (and I don't know if it respects existing partitions). Check for some installing-Windows-with-Linux tutorials on Google.
  9. Okay... so if I understand you correctly, the setup is similar to a kite-surfer: the upper wing pulls the lower wing along via a cable, but the lower wing is the one supporting the weight (floating in the kite-surfer example). The question is, would it be feasible to do for commercial flights? You'd be limited to regions with sufficient windspeeds, speed itself would be unreliable (meaning schedules would go nuts) and you'd probably have to have a backup mechanism aboard in case the wind died, increasing complexity further.
  10. And how would one achieve a 600mph airspeed with this? Surely the wing located in the lower-airspeed layer would impose a significant drag on the whole contraption and prevent it from reaching any significant speed.
  11. How could they be as fast as a jet airliner? I've never heard of the jet stream going 600mph...
  12. Booting to a CD shouldn't depend on GRUB. It's a BIOS setting. You'll need to go into BIOS config as the computer boots (usually F2 or F8... just hit it rapidly before GRUB comes up) and change the ordering so that CDs are booted to before the hard drive. Then you can try the Windows recovery CD.
  13. I believe the original intent of the word was "real property," going by that definition of it.
  14. The Air Force does not fly off of aircraft carriers. The Navy has its own air wing.
  15. That was removed intentionally.
  16. umm... you have 28 of them, you'll have to be more specific if you want us to help you out.
  17. I love online dating services.
  18. It was not solely for the colonists. First of all, it was more of a territorial dispute. Second, it wasn't even limited to America - the war was fought all over Europe, and was considered the "first world war" by some. Much of that tax money was going straight back to pay for conflicts in Europe, not America. The state assemblies were not represented in British parliament, so the colonists were actually only represented at a state level; the higher levels of government could do whatever they pleased without the colonists' input. It was rather "free," relatively speaking. Anyways, I'll split this if we think there can be more discussion about the American Revolution.
  19. But you can't get out of sync with the Planck time, because there's no time shorter than it to be off by.
  20. We discuss many non-science issues here as well. Many of our members would not be here without the Politics section, and that's not strictly a science. We could loosen up the definition of theology to fit our purposes as well Of course, a poll would be a good idea. If anybody has any other good name ideas, I'd be glad to hear them.
  21. VPNs can be encrypted over what is called a "secure tunnel." Ask for more details about this "secure tunnel." It could be a setup where all tunnel traffic is encrypted with SSL (the most common encrypted setup) or one of several other choices, or it could be plaintext. Even if it is encrypted, however, encryption will not prevent others from being able to access the network. They will not be able to access data being sent over it, but if they can access your computers, that's worthless. This can be negated if you use a secure setup in which computers can only be accessed by authorized users, even from within the network. If they can connect but can't get into any of the computers, it's no big deal. This, of course, depends on you keeping up-to-date with security patches, and still is not good as solid WPA protection.
  22. I think "theology" works for me: the·ol·o·gy 1. The study of the nature of God and religious truth; rational inquiry into religious questions.
  23. Invisible wireless tunnels - does he mean a Virtual Private Network (VPN)? If so, and the VPN uses some sort of encrypted tunneling (like SSL), you should be fine.
  24. I'd like to see how one could get "out of sync" and manage to get into another dimension. As I understand it, there isn't even any "sync" to be in. The universe does not have a refresh rate, unless it's just a simulation in an alien computer.
  25. I'd rather we go for three days, stick with that a few times, and then just permaban the guy. After all, after 625 days you won't even remember what he did wrong the last time...
