My posts are playing magic tricks.

It's to be expected in Announcements - your posts must be approved before appearing. New threads in News are still moderated as well (I think). Does this occur with Quick Reply or the standard Reply button? If it's Quick Reply, try hitting Ctrl-F5 while on any thread in the forum, so your browser reloads the Javascript used for Quick Reply. It may be the vB update confusing your cache. -
We're required to pay for each and every board, even if it's scienceforums.net/forums/ and scienceforums.net/theologystuff/.

That's ten warning points That would be good, although it still is difficult to keep a religion site highly logical. We'll have to make some sacrifices, but we'll try to retain some of the best from the current forum.
-
It's a tough call, but threads like this will most likely survive if they don't turn nasty on you. Just keep things civil and orderly and we don't mind at all.

No. Three-dimensional holograms with volume, in contrast with two-dimensional ones that just change at different angles.

I'm hoping the connection between SFN and the new site should help it bring in the critical thinkers. Of course, we'll also get "die religion DIE!!!!" sorts of people that way, but we can deal with them.

Do you have access to the error log? If you can show me the last few error messages you've gotten, I can see what might be the problem. and btw, that doesn't sound like an Apache error message.

Using a pre-built software would be your best bet. I don't know if a wiki would be suitable, but look up Joomla! and other such content management systems to see if they can do what you want. If you need to write your own, learn the basic PHP syntax - how the language itself works - and then take a simple PHP script (something fairly uncomplicated that involves users logging in) and dissect it. If you need help knowing what a function does, just dive into the great PHP manual and enter the function's name in the search box in the upper right.

Okay, it looks like I'll have to clarify this. Nothing in these forum rules prevents you from using the word "religion" or making casual discussions of religion. However, if such discussions are off-topic (religion does not really belong in the Chemistry forum, for example) then they will be removed.

I don't think you're going to get any more valid advice out of a forum of people you don't even know. If you want a second opinion, go ask someone qualified to do so, like another trusted psychiatrist. The level of insensitivity in this thread astounds me, and the number of people pretending like they know the solution also astounds me. This isn't something we can diagnose without knowing the full situation.

More on the closure of Philosophy and Religion

abskebabs, that's the plan. -
Future of the Politics Forum
Cap'n Refsmmat replied to Jim's topic in Suggestions, Comments and Support
Politics isn't being removed, and philosophy will probably be back. Religion is fairly easy to distinguish. So, that's not a problem. -
Because we go and sue for millions if our doctor gives us Tylenol instead of aspirin.

The idea of the new site will to be to retain the nice shiny logicalness. And I beg to differ - our current forum was nowhere near scientific, as it ended in insults more often than not. Just remember that the new site will share users and the old posts from the current P&R forum, and so it'll share quite a bit of the old's qualities. Also remember that we are going to (well, hopefully) open a Philosophy forum here on SFN, since that is more relevant to science. -
Don't give up, if you have good reasons, we'll definitely consider them. We'll, of course, be making a few more changes to the index in the coming days, so be sure to check back again soon.

Just for convenience, here's a link. Here's a few of the changes I've made (with much input from everybody in the staff) to the policy: A much-needed rejiggering of the basic rules in Section 2 has been done. Things should be clearer and more comprehensive now, and we now have coverage of several things that we had forgotten about the first time around. Removed several unneeded sections. Cleared out a bunch of fun legalese (although it's still rather complex). Updated the rules to reflect our new warning system. Consolidated many redundant rules and entire sections. Added "Important Links" to the end. Changed some formatting around to make it easier to read. Fixed some spelling errors Updated some links and some dates. That should about cover it. If you have any questions regarding what the new policy says, feel free to ask.

Of course. It's only punished if you vigorously deny/ignore us when we tell you you're strawmanning, and then turn around and do it again.

Strange Lights and Shapes

Frankly, it's probably just a matter of brain development and wacky circuitry that eventually matures. -
I think the original intention was to make it a broad rule for most fallacies, but that seems to have been forgotten... sorry, I drafted the warnings originally

More on the closure of Philosophy and Religion

Rough and tumble is the big problem here. Seven of the last ten post reports we've gotten (before we closed it) have been the Philosophy and Religion forum, and there have been many discussions in there that just go off the deep end. As other staff have said, we wouldn't really mind keeping it if there were enough staff willing to watch the forum carefully. As it is, the forum will be split off... if you have a better solution, do tell. Don't worry, there'll be alternative venues. Politics has little danger of going as it is. It's not as personal and controversial as P&R was, and several staff members are quite willing to moderate it. Do you have an alternative suggestion that would also be fair? The points system is the best we could come up with. -
Tell us - what do you consider "everything you needed"? If there's something we can add, we'll do it. The portal was just a rather clunky system that wasn't very inviting to newcomers. Lack of interest. A few months ago I actually spent the time to go through all the challenges and PM those involved about running their debate, and not one was interested. We no longer have a portal, so there's no real need for it. Feel free to continue posting in the News Forum anyways... we just don't need the editorial process because we don't have to worry about them showing up on the home page. We've noticed too, and trust me, we're just as disappointed. The best thing is to keep giving us more feedback and criticism. We'll only get better if you keep telling us what you think we're doing wrong. I think that was broken in the upgrade. I'll ask dave to look into putting it back.

There's always the new posts page (in the navigation top near the top of every page).
