  1. No, I'd just ask him to halve everybody's postcount.
  2. Excuse me while I grab Sayonara and ask him to edit postcounts.
  3. That "hot piece of metal" looks suspiciously like a chunk of orange plastic or fabric to me.
  4. As you may have already known, we've formed a news team over a month ago to get traffic through the news forum. And, I'm happy to announce that I'm looking for more members on the news team! The job would require only two things: 1, that you can write well, and 2, that you have good sources to find science news. If you can do both of these, and you have enough time to write just two or three articles a week, then send me a private message and a sample write-up (using the format of articles currently posted in the news forum) and I'll get you into the news team. Thanks!
  5. Please, rather than derailing this thread with your own new theory, try to stick with what we already know. The Thing is trying to ask about entangement, not your personal theory of it.
  6. I'll take a look at it, as I know some about the Big Bang and such.
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnosis
  8. That's exactly what I intend to do. I'll be looking for good references as well as TalkOrigins (which provides its own references as well).
  9. Okay, good. I've stuck in a section for an introduction so we can make this all nice and professional, as well as a few references. If we linked to this as a reference in arguments enough, it would show up in Google, I presume.
  10. I've stuck it in a subpage for you and I'll start looking through it, providing references, etc.
  11. A new bifocal lense prototype can change its focus automatically with a simple electric charge, leading to the hopes that bifocal users won't have to strain their eyes with the cumbersome dual-lense glasses anymore. Current bifocals combine two lenses into one piece of plastic, so that when users look down they look into a lense that lets them read and see close-up. However, this combination of lenses can cause diziness or headaches. The new prototype can change to close or far vision with the flick of a switch, and scientists are hoping to make it even fully automatic as well. http://physicsweb.org/articles/news/10/4/2/1
  12. A new study of nine supermassive black holes has found that they are actually "green" - because of their efficiency. Black holes typically emit energy in the form of jets of matter travelling at near the speed of light away from the core. In fact, this matter has more energy than the X-rays and light emitted from the black hole as well (as the jets emit X-rays due to their speed). The jets create cavities in the gas surrounding the black hole, and an estimate of the energy needed to create these cavities was combined with an estimate of the fuel available to the black hole to reach the conclusion that black holes are incredibly fuel efficient - "if a car was as fuel-efficient as these black holes, it could theoretically travel over a billion miles on a gallon of gas," said Christopher Reynolds from the University of Maryland. http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2006-04/cxc-ncf042406.php
  13. Feel free to use a page on WiSci (your user page perhaps) to make a draft of this so we can all revise it. I'll look over it as well and probably add a few things.
  14. I've had it happen to one of my domains before. It's just a simple trick, so they probably look randomly through a whois database and pick domains.
  15. I couldn't do anything to it to make it better. I just slept it off, really.
  16. I'm guessing that either they're spoofing the email address to make it look like it came from you, or you've got something on your server you shouldn't. Ask your host to check the logs from your account to see if you've actually been sending spam.
  17. I've had that problem once before with a wrist brace, and I can say that if it doesn't go away in another day (as mine did) then you should see a doctor. Mine went away in a good day, but it was rather irritating in that time.
  18. Right, back to the question. Will evolution ever become widely accepted among the public?
  19. Evolution is part of the scientific framework, and so is the big bang theory. Hence, creationists throw them together. Does the video provide this evidence? Or references? An atmosphere of C02, nitrogen and water vapor can produce amino acids (see here). Frankly, the probability things don't work. And this: http://talkorigins.org/indexcc/CB/CB010_2.html Nobody said the first cells were as complex as bacteria: http://talkorigins.org/indexcc/CB/CB010_2.html Yet. Although we do have a nice collection of transitional fossils. I'll have to listen to this one. Humans and chimpanzees are about 98% identical in DNA. We are similar to many other species (simply because we share a lot of things, like skin/hair/eyes/etc. in common) in terms of DNA, but none as much as apes.
  20. The actual indexing is done on the server. All the client does is gather up URLs and their content. Only the server can decide what the content is, and what searches it will show up in.
  21. Even if what you are saying is correct (I can't find references), one example does not make the whole theory wrong. a) Sometimes does not invalidate all carbon dating results. Many readings have been validated with others sources, such as other objects found in the same location and such. b) Expain to me how tree ring dating is faulty. a) Irreducible complexity is an argument from incredulity - "I can't imagine any way thing x could have evolved, so it couldn't have happened. b) A reducibly complex mousetrap.
  22. That doesn't make his particular points any less valid. I will watch the video as soon as I can and see what I think.
  23. "Scientific evidence"? Please take a look at the TalkOrigins link for an index of creationist claims and why they're wrong, and then reconsider. I note, for example, that one of their chapters includes "The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics" in its title, which I presume means it's trying to convince you that the big bang violates the second law of thermodynamics. But, that is simply a misunderstanding of thermodynamics. http://talkorigins.org/indexcc/CF/CF001.html I sincerely doubt that video brings up any topics that have not been previously discussed here, but I will wait until I can grab some headphones to pass serious judgement.
  24. Right, I don't have headphones so I can't listen to it, but I suggest you go to http://talkorigins.org/indexcc/ to cleanse yourself of creationist thoughts.
