  1. I'd like to say best of luck to the rest of the new moderators, and those of you who forget to send me a congratulations note better watch out...
  2. When the universe was much, much smaller, and much, much denser, random movements of molecules (which always are occurring) caused some segments to be a bit more dense then others. Once the universe expanded, that effect grew, and the universe became "clumpy" as gravity pulled these areas together even more.
  3. I suppose it depends on how you sneeze (if you supress it or blast the pictures off of the wall). If it works out, I'll be breaking out the black pepper.
  4. You generally shouldn't trust movies to be fact, although it could happen. Universities typically have financial aid programs that help you pay for tuition. Those should help, although you'll still need to find a decent job while in college. If you're interested in science, then it's possible that you could be a lab assistant or something like that to earn money and experience. And I must say, your English is very good. You just need confidence that you can manage more advanced topics. Trust me, I never thought I could understand quantum mechanics, but with a bit of thought and time, I can grasp it. All you need is to try.
  5. That's not exactly a cell from scratch. That's a cell made out of already-created complex ingredients. Like an Instant Cell--Just Add Lipids.
  6. Really I'm not sure what we can do to spark interest again. We could possibly use WiSci as a repository for things like articles on Intelligent Design (to refer to when debating an IDiot) and evolution, etc. That would attract more interest, as it would relate to the forum.
  7. Simple question. Would you buy a hybrid car (assuming you had the money) or would you stick with a conventional one? Take into consideration any factor you wish.
  8. Realistic possibility? None. Adding a neurotransmitter wouldn't let you manipulate objects from a distance--not much at all could, except an incredibly powerful magnetic field. Same sort of thing goes for the rest of it.
  9. The problem with the balloon idea is that the exhaust nozzle (the part of the balloon you blow into) likes to flap around, and so the balloon would end up going round and round the string just as much as it would going along it.
  10. Typically Flash memory will have around 100,000 write cycles (meaning each bit can be written to 100,000 times -- not the whole thing, but each bit). There are clever ways to get around this, however, as the Flash controller can detect if an area is getting "worn out" and mark that area as unusable, and therefore keeping data intact.
  11. Yep, the news team now has 200 as I pointed out the problem to dave and he thought it was due to the news team's usergroup being messed up, so he just set it to 200. Enjoy the special feeling
  12. Aren't nanites out of Star Trek?
  13. That's exactly what MattC was talking about in the first post, except as an operating system option rather than built-in.
  14. The entire point of having different domains for different countries is so that those people can use their own languages on their sites, and distinguish where they are. It's a nice system, as the local governments get to control the domain, so for example you could have something.gov.fr for the French government, etc. It makes distinctions about what belongs to what. And herme3, you did prove DoctorMO's point quite well.
  15. Not really. It didn't break lightspeed, as the universe isn't a tangible thing. It can expand faster than the speed of light without breaking any laws.
  16. Is it not possible that everybody feels something completely different, but was conditioned to feel that as "happiness" anyways? The feeling could be positive for everybody.
  17. How do you know that happiness feels the same to everyone? You haven't experienced it from all of their viewpoints, have you?
  18. Click on the New Posts button near the top of the page.
  19. Stop right there. The government is a group of people in a social contract wit the rest of the people -- "we'll protect you from crime and terrorists if you pay us taxes." Even if there is another entity that has more influence, they are not the government; the government has an unspoken contract with the people to (hopefully) protect them and make them safe.
  20. You'd need to know the size of the wind turbine for one. You could look up a few statistics on different wind turbines, and figure out a decent formula from there.
  21. Homestead offers few features for high cost. There are many other reliable webhosts that offer many more features for lower prices. herme3, that was a site I got off of Google, not something I recommended.
  22. Ten points for Transdecimal.
  23. It's just like you taking a spot on a piece of fabric and stretching the fabric so that the spot moves relative to the rest of the fabric.
