  1. No, it doesn't. It blocks popups.
  2. Opera has a built-in popup blocker. I meant banner ads.
  3. Yes, I know... burn the heretic... but I have valid reasons. I've downloaded Opera 8.51 (the one with no ads in it!) and it looks rather nice. The UI, while it took me a bit of tweaking to get it to look right, is rather nice, and it's fast. Very fast, especially when you take into account these benchmark tests. Also, it uses around half of the memory that Firefox does, which is a good improvement when I have a few programs running. The only thing I'm missing so far is adblocking capabilities. I know there's filter.ini, but that doesn't collapse the ads so there isn't a big white space. But I figure I'll do blike a favor and take a look at the google ads for a while. Now, I'd like to hear your comments on each, if you have any. I'm not going to bother reading if you say things like "Firefox is open source" as that doesn't matter to me, or "Firefox is portable to other OSes" because I don't use other operating systems. May the best browser win.
  4. I see. In any case, Dover did the right thing in my opinion. I'd vote for them if there were no other good nominees.
  5. There are a few health risks involved with eating another human (mainly if you eat their brain) but I think the main reason is that whenever "advanced" cultures find one that is far behind them, and cannibalistic, they link the lack of cultural advancement with the cannibalism. If suddenly a massive society with advanced technology and cannibalistic tendencies was discovered, it would suddenly be a lot more appealing.
  6. Dover isn't exactly a person, however.
  7. This is originally what Wikipedia was going to be--the "sandbox" for a real encyclopedia. But then they decided it was good enough on its own, and got rid of the "real" encyclopedia project.
  8. The link doesn't go anywhere, just a 404 page.
  9. Actually, nothing is appearing. Can a moderator go over there and approve things? I've quit posting there because of this.
  10. Everybody on this site tends to be condescending towards people who present logical fallacies as arguments. If, and only if. But I don't.
  11. No, wait a moment. And I don't care if the person pays for the extra gas, as there's a finite amount of fuel on this planet and no amount of money will fix that. And I don't wakeboard, either.
  12. There you go. Nobody said it shouldn't be allowed--it's just that in 25 years, we'd all like to still have fossil fuels. Using too much of them means we'll have less time with them around. Now you're actually getting somewhere by providing a real argument. NASCAR, I suppose, being entertainment, is different than a necessity (driving to work). Although you do bring up a good point; I think NASCAR is kind of dumb myself. But many people will say that it's not as fun riding a 125cc dirt bike or whatever, because you can't go as fast. Not that I think this is fine (it's rather silly in my opinion) but they have an excuse. And kite surfing is dependent on the wind, so there's a valid reason to do wakeboarding with a motor. Science isn't all about equations, you're mistaking it with physics. Even if that was a joke, calling people anal isn't recommended if you want to stay here very long. It requires evidence that isn't refuted.
  13. No. It's just we prefer that you don't use a load of logical fallacies and made-up situations. I think the real criticism of SUV drivers is not because they're wasting fuel, but because they're using a lot more fuel then they really have to. They could have just used a Prius--but there are no hybrid 4-wheelers and NASCARs.
  14. Exactly, ecoli. Tully, you never counter-attacked it. You strawmanned by attacking an argument that we never presented.
  15. You're strawmanning again. (Creating a position that you can easily attack, rather than attacking the position that we're providing)
  16. I'd bet liquid nitrogen would be great for schools to clean gum off of their desks with. Freeze the gum solid and chip it off.
  17. I read one book at a time, and usually I spend several hours at a time reading it. Of course, I'm a very fast reader (400+ words per minute at regular pace) so I finish them quite quickly.
  18. If you had actually read posts in this thread, and not strawmanned when attempting to refute them, you probably would have understood this better. The fact is, people protest SUVs because they are wasteful. People buy a huge gas-guzzling car so they can go to the grocery and buy milk, when they could get away with a Prius. Aircraft, when full, are the equivalent of that Prius. For each passenger, they consume a reasonable amount of fuel (I don't know how much, so don't ask me) rather than guzzling fuel like an SUV. If you loaded an SUV like the VWs that clowns use, stuffing them with 14 people, it would be "environmentally friendly" because it takes the place of 14 SUVs and saves just that much gas.
  19. Indeed. Haxdoor is a backdoor virus, meaning if you think it's still there, unplug that computer immediately or you risk even more problems.
  20. You're still strawmanning.
  21. I went into Safe Mode, which allowed me to do a virus scan without the virus being active to disable Norton. Try that to see if Norton/Symantec finds any files related to it during that scan.
  22. Some viruses are very clever about not being detected. I had one that would freeze any spyware or a/v program the instant that program got to it while scanning. Took me a while to figure out, but fortunately it didn't do any damage.
  23. Hrm. I have a feeling that those who currently have animated avatars were "grandfathered in" because they had uploaded them long ago, and some configuration setting has been changed (accidentally or purposefully) to prevent animated avatars now.
  24. I would nag about including images in signatures as well, but dave makes a valid point about them (disrupts the visual flow of the thread when you have big images in the way) but I think 50 extra letters would be fine. I've also been irritated by the fact that BBCode is counted as a character.
  25. If the file is being used by another process (I presume you're trying to delete your current installation so you can reinstall Zone Alarm), then it's still deletable. Try this. And I think it's likely that Internet Explorer accidentally allowed the virus in, but I'll quit nagging about that.
