I'd suggest you reboot into safe mode (go to Run and type in msconfig), update Norton's virus definitions, then do a full scan. If nothing turns up, you should be fine. In any case, send the zip file to Symantec (http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/submit.html) if you can, or any other a/v firm. They'll be able to tell you what it is, or if it's new. And I'm desperately resisting making a crack to you about using Internet Explorer...

Actually I think blike is interested in either my own personal creation, scWiki, or MediaWiki. The advantage of using scWiki is that he can throw a feature at me and I'll be glad to implement it. And I'm already thinking about making it more "semantic."
-
Alternately, we could nag blike about getting the wiki set up again. We had one, long long ago, and blike decided to do it again, but not much has been done other than talk.

a) No, you can't change your name, and don't register a new account or the admins will get angry. Perhaps PM one to ask if they'll do it for you. b) Only moderators can get custom titles.

Hayabusa, launched by Japan's space agency JAXA, appears to have failed in its mission, and hope is dimming for a successful return. The craft was originally designed to land on an asteroid, fire a pellet into it, and collect the resulting debris to be returned to earth. However, data suggests that it did not manage to fire its pellets, meaning any dust it collected would be in tiny amounts. To make things worse, JAXA is unable to maintain complete control of Hayabusa's orientation, suggesting that most of the gas thrusters have failed or frozen. The space agency managed to orient the craft with its ion engines, but this is only a temporary measure, and the ion engines are very weak. It looks like our first chance to get real samples from an asteroid has been flubbed. http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn8451&feedId=online-news_rss20

DSN is only if you're using ODBC, and if you don't know what that is, don't bother filling that in. You need one MySQL database preferably. Create it with whatever name you'd like in the host's control panel, then fill that in in the phpBB installer.

Not many dedicated ones (3-4 maybe) but anybody should feel free to make a post or two if they see something interesting. -

And might I ask the moderators to check the forum a bit more frequently for threads to be checked? -
Researchers have created a mix of chemicals and medications that will activate the immune system against a wide range of bacteria and viruses. While the drug does not directly target the pathogens themselves, it boosts the immune response against them in the hopes that the immune system will be better than a direct attack by medication. The drug is administered via a nasal spray, and activates the immune system in the respiratory and digestive tracts. So it appears that we may have a new defense against viruses, rather then simply rest and plenty of fluids. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/12/051211221045.htm

D, all of them, unless they provide a source.

According to a survey by Norwegian scientists, killer whales contain the most hazardous man-made chemicals of any other species of animal inhabiting the Arctic. The researchers tested blubber samples and discovered chemicals such as pesticides, flame retardants, and PCBs, attributing the high level to the fact that orcas are on the top of the food chain in the Artic. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4520104.stm

I didn't see anything interesting on Google, but if you have any suggestions, fire away.

I would be very bored. What if George Bush spontaneously combusted?

Very interesting. With acne, diabtes, and infantile colic, I'm not sure I want milk anymore... -

Care to link to one of those studies? I'm kind of intrigued. -

Glad to hear that both of you are willing to do it. If you'd like, you can start making threads now so we can see what sort of things you can do... If this is done, we'll probably have a lot more discussion on SFN and I think new members will be more attracted to it. When a site has interesting articles on its front page, rather than just latest threads, I think they'd be more likely to join and comment on them. Anybody else interested? -
Fortunately, devices are being developed that will blast a car's electronics and shut it down. Unfortunately, there's no sure equivalent for a human.

Okay, sure. Now we just have to find out if anybody is interested. Responses from others are welcome, I'd like to see how the public likes this idea. -

Shouldn't this be in the News forum? Oh well. Sounds like a lot of controversy to me. -

I think we can safely agree that Opera supports more HTML and Firefox more CSS. HTML Firefox: 83% Opera: 88% CSS Firefox: 65% Opera: 62% But that's minor. We can also safely say that Firefox 1.5 has gotten a lot better than 1.0 in standards support, and I haven't had any bugs so far.

Everything should be made simple but not simpler.

Indeed. It's just hard to do the right way, as there's a fine line between them. -
Actually Opera is a bit better, and Safari just passed Acid2. But each release of FF is getting a lot better, especially compared to what IE7 will do compared to IE6...
