  1. Antimatter + matter = gigantic explosion, not a black hole. And that's just putting it simply.
  2. Simply put, if it's an article on a popular topic, it's most likely correct--there are too many people looking at it for a mistake to be unnoticed for very long. If it's an article that is obscure and very little noticed, it's quite likely that it isn't correct or detailed enough for reference. Simply put, I use it for research, but not for a reference to list on a paper.
  3. Considering this is all that Pentcho posts about, I don't think it's really worth it replying. I haven't seen him reply to any of his own threads yet, and I'm betting his warning level is pretty high already.
  4. Yes, it is. Simply because the closer you get to the sun (as it is the source of all of our light) the more powerful it gets. Although there is no air in space for heat, so most of it is radiant energy (light shining on something and giving it heat). Kind of like staring into a spotlight from two feet away, compared to a mile away. edit: Although this does sound suspiciously like your homework.
  5. You can go either way. And RyanJ, YaBB is actually an older version of SMF, so I wouldn't bother with that. There's also MyBB although it's not quite at 1.0 yet.
  6. You'd have to take that up with New Scientist, not me.
  7. Cat hair. Lots of it. And no, not what you're thinking of.
  8. Well, let's see. Considering I'm on a laptop and sitting on my bed, I guess you could say that the strangest thing here is me.
  9. You'd have to explain what inverted light is, first.
  10. No, he got HIV and hasn't actually developed AIDS yet. (AIDS is the result of HIV)

  12. According to a recent issue of New Scientist, it wasn't actually the plague--the immunity has been around for over a few thousand years. Sorry, had to nitpick. Really, there have been a few cases of people supposedly getting rid of the virus, but in all reality, giving victims the hope that they can shake it (before we do research to see how some were "cured") would be giving them false hope. Let's wait until it's all verified.
  13. I think this should answer your question:
  14. Indeed. I'd reccommend WPA encryption at least, and MAC address filtering so even if they do break the encryption, they can't connect.
  15. Sorry, you lose. According to a survey team in 1996, that's wrong. Mine: The windows on the Apollo lunar landing module were around 1/8 of an inch thick.
  16. What, no more Gir stand-ups?
  17. This topic has been discussed (in English) several times before. And it was conclusively proved not to violate Relativity. Though I can't tell if this person is trying to argue against relativity or agree with it, as the translation is hard to understand.
  18. Thank you. Do you have any suggestions as to anything that should be added to it?
  19. I believe email providers are required to keep copies of old email messages for a certain period of time before they are actually deleted.
  20. Burn the heretic!!!!! Anyways, been using it since 0.9.3. Now using 1.5RC2. Fun.
  21. I'd hate to see how IntegraMOD handles it when you have more people on your site. For comparison, a good vB install would use maybe 10 queries per page. Perhaps disable some of the extra unecessary bits? I'll look at the site and see what I can do. edit: SQL queries: 143. Page generation time: 1.5568s. Now THAT is nuts.
  22. Indeed. My site has kind of gone kaput (lack of interest after I moved) but it managed for a while. I should point out to brokenbin that his site is using an incredible amount of queries per page, most likely due to the fact that IntegraMOD is essentially a bunch of query-using modifications stuck together.
  23. Quit making me curious. Now I'm going to start nagging you about what it really is. Looking at the index, we have far fewer people online than we did at one point in January (though it may be due to an improvement in vB's management of search spiders, reducing the number of duplicates). Looking at the other sites on the server, they're all slow (and it's a VPS) which indicates that something is chewing up the CPU time.
  24. I have a feeling that SFN's servers are getting bogged down with the level of users that we have on at any given time. I've had quite a few "Server is too busy" errors thrown out by vB, and occaisionally I can't get through at all. Knowing that SFN is on a VPS at the moment, I think there are a few possible solutions, the most obvious being "get a dedicated server." Of course, I don't know if blike is willing to shell out that much a month, so the only other possible solution would be to reduce the amount of work the server has to do. Disable a bunch of unnecessary vB features, clean up templates to decrease the disk usage/bandwidth, etc. Hope things clear up soon.
  25. I've registered. I've managed my own site for over a year, so I think you could use my experience. I like the idea.
