  1. Uh-oh. Now Ivan is going to come through and plaster Florida again, according to the Weather Channel.
  2. I hear people every day, complaining about some government thing done years ago. People complain about how we could (I don't think we could) have stopped 9/11, how Iraq was wrong, how another war was wrong, etc. etc. But I have a question for you: Will arguing the correctness of a serious political move or even a military involvement fix the situation? Just saying "Iraq was wrong" is not going to get Iraq fixed. We can't pull out either. So instead of griping about what we should have done, why don't we argue over what we should do to fix it? All of the debates over Iraq and 9/11 really have no point. You can't change the past by whining. You may vote differently, but that won't solve the problem. You need to find a solution to the problem and quit the griping. Don't you agree? Sorry if I sound like a preacher, but it's true!
  3. Another idea: If the person has a specialty in some subject, you have the title say "Physicist" or "Engineer" or whatever. You'd just have a little option thingy for it in User CP. If the person had no specialty, then they'd be "All of the above" or something like that... I don't know what it should be. This way the people could make the title suit what they really are.
  4. There's a thread in the announcements forum about it, so I think you should have seen it. But for now I want to see if Sayo and Blike like it, since they have the power around here.
  5. http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/ptech/09/06/windowsupdate.ap/index.html Ahahahahahahaha.
  6. Actually, the "Old Fart" was only put in because I didn't know what else to say... Maybe "Old Timer"? Or, if they were a good person, could they get a custom title even? (good person, as in not spamming and knowing their stuff). Then, if there's someone who has stayed with the forum for a long time they could get the additional title "Forum Regular", which will be a nice status (something you look up to) and to show the new people who's the "big shots".
  7. Maybe: New, 0 posts Fresh, 30 posts Growing, 100 posts Student, 250 posts 6th Grader, 500 posts Experienced, 750 posts Dedicated, 1000 posts Expert, 1500 posts Veteran, 2500 posts Old Fart, 5000 posts I know, it sounds a bit silly, but instead of us constantly coming up with new ones I think you should try to now improve on all of our previous ones. I agree that the one we have is kind of old and not very fun anymore...
  8. Holy smokes! With that amount of thrust... I wonder what thrust the propellant in Space Shuttle boosters gets at that size... Wait, it's a quarter inch in diameter? How could it burn for 6 seconds if it's that narrow? My model rockets burn for about three seconds at 1/2 an inch wide... so it burns more slowly and gets MORE power?
  9. There is also HyperCam that takes movies, but at a slow frame rate.
  10. These people are doing research, but ignoring the important parts. Think: The lack of wing damage could be caused by the wings coming off of the plane as it hits the ground. Wings with no tail are not airodynamic and will slow down, thus causing less damage. Why do columns in the WTC have to be hit with thermite? Isn't jet fuel a good enough way to melt steel? These planes carry hundreds of TONS of the stuff. It'll burn pretty bad.
  11. Would they even tell us if they did find one? Or would they cover it up until they figure it out?
  12. Everything in the desert is humongously adapted. You don't see some blueberries sitting around in the desert. Same with anything on Mars. You couldn't just have blueberries. They'd have to adapt humoungously and change and such until they are unrecognizable. Oh yes, we DO NOT need 3d glasses, just mount the two views side-by-side!!!
  13. Okay, I'd like to know: Why does it have to be able to expand and contract? Next, it has to be manned. It's not practical to string a humoungous cable to feed sonar data to humans so they can tell whether or not to shoot. Radio doesn't work at depths, except at low frequency and low speed. Too slow for that type of data.
  14. I had a Casio and it just fell apart... apparently they are of low quality. A TI-83 has zillions of functions, more than any plain old scientific calculator.
  15. Yes, that's true. The ship still has momentum, so it'll end up a long way from where you first hit it.
  16. Well, apart from the fact that it's pretty unlikely that a ship would go directly over them, can't you wait until it starts to pass until you blast it?
  17. He's in college. He needs all of the advanced stuff, not just games.
  18. Yes, I DID make that myself. (with a little help from my family)
  19. I myself think that TI-83s are not the most advanced, they are slower, and the more powerful TI-89 or TI-92 sounds suitable for college. TI-83s or 84s are not as advanced, and are more suitable for junior high or high school.
  20. In other words, can't you do your own research? Just to be nice, http://www.physlink.com/Education/AskExperts/ae181.cfm edit: That's funny, Sayo and I had a link to the same site. Different articles though.

  22. The major noise comes from flooding the torpedo tubes with water and then expelling the torpedo with compressed air. I'm sure you could have the tubes flooded beforehand, and have the torpedo shot with springs or something.
  23. Well, relativity has been proven in numerous ways, so I really doubt that it would be wrong. Since the law of conservation of energy has not been proved wrong (I just read an explanation of why it was wrong, but the explanation was flawed hopelessly) and it has also been proved right, I see no reason to believe that either are wrong. In other words, I think that they are right. Dear lord, this might be turning into another one of these stupid arguments. ARGH!
  24. Nobody knows, we only have theories. The mind is just too mysterious.
