Why do batteries have a shelf life, for, say, 6 years? Why can't you let them sit there indefinitely and then use them? Please, don't make it too complicated for me to understand.

I know that cats sleep about 18 hours a day, but my question is: Why do they? Why do they need to?

What is your favorite type of pet? Cat for me, no other animal will sleep with you without hogging the whole bed.

Speaking of which, in WWII, they intended to make a fleet of aircraft carriers out of ice. But anyways, if you were going to dock with ice, you need to keep the ice cold with refrigerant or some sort of sunshade thing. Otherwise it will melt right off in the 250 degrees (fahrenheit) heat from the sun. by the way, it's nice to see glider being more active around here for a while.

It depends. If you are in shadow, then yes, it would work. But if you were in "day" (which is every 90 in Earth orbit) then the sun would melt the ice immediately.

Hold it... won't it's internal battery be entirely junk? Most nowadays only last about 6 years, and in the 70's, I'd expect less.

If you take a look at the member list, you'll notice that out of just over 2000 members, 642 of them have not posted at all, and quite a few haven't logged on since they registered. Then there are loads more with less than 5 posts. It probably is annoying when you register, to have register form tell you that your name is already in use by someone who never posted. So I propose this: Members that have not logged in for six months (or some other length of time), and have 5 (or some other number) or less posts, should be deleted. The terms might be changed, you could warn them, but I think it would help let new members have a name they wanted, not some odd thing as a last resort.

Of course you wouldn't just say, "Oh, you know spanish so you can be a mod," you'd have to make sure they were someone that should.
