  1. Using PCl5 as an example. In PCl3 each 3p orbital is involved in bonding. In PCl5 I'm guessing the 3s electrons which are usually P's lone pair of electrons are snatched by the electronegative Cl atoms. I read that P holds the extra electrons from the 2 extra bonds in its 3d orbital. Does that mean 1 bonding electron resides in the s orbital while the other one resides in the d orbital?
  2. That new one Splice is about genetic engineering.
  3. Thanks a lot! I was getting stressed there cuz I couldn't really go any further without knowing the answer to that first question.
  4. I'm having a bit of trouble understanding basic atomic structure. Do the electrons of 2 different elements have different energy levels? For example beryllium and boron. Are the 1S electrons of Be in its ground state occupying the exact same energy level of the 1S electrons of B in its ground state? Also I assume s and p orbital electrons are at different energy levels but what about the different p orbitals? Do they have 3 different energy levels or are all 6 atoms in the p orbital in the same energy level?
  5. Why does the H line spectrum contain lines that the Na line spectrum doesn't though? Na contains an electron in the exact same energy level that hydrogens electron is located doesn't it?
  6. I read that each line on a line spectra for an element represents an energy level. Hydrogen only has 1 electron which is in the first energy level so why are there so many lines on the H line spectrum?
