This will only work if they are exactly positioned over the circle though. Dimshadow has supplied the correct method.

Yeah. My post was in response to YT's method.

Same problem with this as measuring the diameter. You may have three lines starting at accurate points around the circle but how will you ensure your lines are exactly perpendicular to the tangent of the circle? A better way would be to use the same method but mark 6 points (60 degrees apart) and connect opposing point. That way you'll be sure that your start and end points are accuractely marked. Personally I would fold the paper in half carefully with a sharp crease so that the two semicircles exactly match, open it up and then do the same again with the circle rotated (doesn't matter how far as long as you get two lines). Where the lines cross is the centre. Repeat this several times to be sure of accuracy. If the circle is drawn on a none circular piece of paper (hasn't been cut out) just make sure the circumference is drawn nice and thick and hold it up to the light as you fold. Hopefully this satisfies the criteria for both accuracy and simplicity that's being debated. Edit: You can even use the straight edge and compasses to score the folds to get extra brownie points for using the suggested equipment

Measuring the diameter and dividing by two won't be very accurate. You need to be sure that the line crosses exactly through the centre of the circle. The summary of the question asked how to locate the centre or a circle of unknown radius as well as how to find the radius. Even if you had the radius already it's still gonna be hit and miss measuring to the exact center of the circle. Do you reckon any of your customers appreciated this extra effort?

I have been invited by a colleague at work to join. Thanks for the offer anyway. If I get any Invites I'll post here if anybody wants em.

I don't think Tim's got the mental strength to become a champion. You can see his ability draining away when the game gets tough. His tennis is good enough but his mental attitude just can't cut it.

You could just install Linux and not run the GUI at startup. Then you'd get all the fun of shell scripting plus the bonus of a decent OS.

Not really. There's plently of shell stuff and config files in any Linux distro to keep you busy. DOS is not the way forwards. Regardless of what people believe and say DOS is NOT the underlying structure of Windows. It is dead. It lies next to Latin, Dodo's and MC Hammer's music. It's handy sometimes for troubleshooting Windows because there is a handy little emulator built in but that's about the extent of it.

Just my 2 cents really.

Most of the forums with custom titles and such like tend to be game or clan based. This forum attracts those who are interested in more cerebral pursuits and I feel that it may turn those members away.

Who's the Computer Science Forum mod?

Cheers. -
This is a very sensible and useful forum and I think it would be dangerous to start allowing custom titles and such like. Keep it simple so that people focus on the content rather than titles, signature images and all that guff.

Just wondering really 'cos I've not spotted 'em yet.

You can't give people access to items and then stop them saving/downloading them. If you don't want things downloaded then don't put them on the net. If you do want them downloaded but only by certain people than password protect the directories as Dave said. -

Opera's kinda been left behind because of the whole adverts thing. I think Moz/Firefox is the one to stick with.

Stress can affect hormone production so essentially stress will indirectly have an effect. -
I studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bristol and spent most of the first year in the Maths Department. It's not my cup of tea but Bristol excels at maths so I knew I was learning worthwhile stuff. However, this doesn't change the fact that I would rather have my teeth replaced by a blind dentist every day for the rest of my life than attend those maths lectures again!

Thank you very much Lance. Much appreciated.

Cool. Thanks.

I think one would have to deduce the units from the rest of the example or question. Otherwise it's completely useless and probably why it's dropped out of favour.

Hmm, the age old color/colour debate. Well here's something that you might not like if you don't like U's. The american dictionary recognises the word COLOUR. Definition is here http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=colour&x=18&y=8 (note it says CHIEFLY British so it is an American word). Whereas the Oxford English dictionary does not recognise the word COLOR. The Cambridge dictionary does come up with a result but only to say that it's a US word - http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=15017&dict=CALD So, to technically be correct on an international forum the word COLOUR should be chosen over COLOR as it is recognised both by the English and the American dictionaries as a native word.
