A pre-amp u say ayy. Where would this pre-amp go? on the microphone? on the antena? how does it work exactly? I know its probly not legal but how would i get 5watts transmitting power out of a walkie talkie? would i need something like i mentioned earlier that is connected to the antenna but instead of boosting the receiving waves, it boosts the transmitted waves?

Im thinking about buying a pair of cheap walkie talkies, they have a range of 3km line of sight, they transmit at 0.5 watt and have 40 UHF chanels. For what i want to use them for requires them to transmit 5km over some small hills and tree's. I was looking in some old electronics books i had and i saw there was a radio booster amplifier circuit. This uses a 9v battery, a NPN transistor and a few other bits to amplifiy radio frequencies (from about 80 - 800mhz) and send them to the receiver. Without buying more expensive transievers or CB radio's, what can i do to increase the range? How much power would i need to reach 5km? what would be more effective, using a radio booster amplifier or extending the aerial or both? do most radio's have radio booster amplifiers built into their circuits?

Speaking of power consumption and electrolysis. Is there some sort of equation for working out how much hydrogen and oxygen you get from a certain amount of power?

this is probly the last question i will ask on this thread. How are explosives detonated? You know like a car bomb that is about the size of a cellphone you see in the movies, just before they explode you can hear a buzzing sound that gets higher and higher as if something is charging up and then BANG! Is this the sound of a magneto spinning? What device is used to detonate the bomb?

in the method you replied above, the way i read it, the coil has 3 leads? how do u get a coil with 3 leads? did i read it right or am i just stupid? or did u mean connecting the two leads of the battery to two long bits of wire (for the spark gap), with a coil parrellel in the middle? sorry if my explanation is crap

Yea, on the documentary i saw about it, they wouldnt reveal how they actually made the fuel. This is probly because its not as clean and green as they say it is. It also mentions in the video that his car funs on a mixture of HHO gas and gasoline. Why not run it fully on HHO gas? there is something they're not tellin us in this video.

read http://www.energyoptions.com/tech/browns.html it is called brown gas (HHO), rather that exploding it implodes. It is made by using electricity to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, and then back again. 1 litre of water makes 1860 litres of HHO (dont ask me how that works but thats what it says in the article). I dont think that this is possible, when u recombine hydrogen and oxygen u get water again, not some HHO gas. If you ask me its bull, unless i see it with my own eyes (not through the tv) then i'll believe it, but i reckon its fake

thats some pretty funky stuff there. Ive heard of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, but not HHO gas. I have heard of a guy in newzealand that also made his motorbike run on this type of gas. he puts some water into a box that has 2 electrodes in it, no battery, just 2 electrodes. He leaves the water in that box for about 20 minutes and when he takes it out of the box, it is still liquid, just that its flamible. But that video is really amazing how it is able to heat things so quickly like that. Cool

ok, i have done some experimenting with batteries and coils. I noticed that when a battery is connected directly to a coil with no other components in between it creates a spark when you remove the battery, this is because as the magnetic field collapses, the energy needs somewhere to go so a spark jumps to the closest earthed object. I want to use this principal to create a spark that would jump accross a small gap, and i want the gap to be at the end of a long piece of wire (away from me). I know its not good to connect a battery and a coil directly like that, but all i want is a working spark, i can work on improving it once i have the basic concept. Any ideas?

ok, so im thinking i could just wind my own coil to use in the radio. Does an AM/FM radio have 2 different coils (one for AM and one for FM) because im sure they would be completly different. What about the antenna, would it have to be extended? raised high above the ground? because cb's dont put out anywhere near as much power as a proper AM station.

I have a question for those electic engineers out there. Is it possible to modify a normal anolog AM/FM radio to tune into around 10 - 27 mhz or higher? I think most short wave radio's these days use SSB (single side band) and i know you need special circuits to recieve them. I dont want to get too technical but I have a theory that by modifying the variable capacitor or the coil, i can pick up other frequencies. can someone please tell me if im an idiot for thinking this? also, are most cb radio's/walkie talkies FM or AM?

i live in new zealand, there is a couple of guys around my area that have built their own satellite. It is basically a square box with solar panels and some antennas. Its supposed to relay radio signals to other parts of the world. They are paying a russian company $100,000 to get it up in the sky with a whole lot of other homemade satellites. as far as the materials for building the satellite, it would be quite expensive, it must be able to survive the conditions in space ( vacuum, other radiation and stuff). I read this in a newspaper article, they are launching it next year sometime.

if u like bass so much. maybe you can answer this question. Why is it that to get a loud bassy sound in your car, u need to have large capacitors in the circuit? I have seen some systems that have 1 FARAD capacitors in them.

paint ball thats a good idea. But where i live u need to be 18 to get one. I know about building and constructing but i dont know what to build and construct. has anyone got any new inventions or something to do with science that isnt as boring as watching crystals grow? Something that can be build cheaply, and the materials are easy to get.

Say i had a car ignition coil ( i dont really but i could get one ), how would i connect it to give me just one quick spark. Without making any complex circuit. Something as simple as tapping the ends on a battery or using a charged capacitor. Any ideas?

thanks for the post. A question about your first reply. You said i needed an oscillator. If i had an oscillator, would that give me a repeating spark. If i just wanted one quick spark and thats it, would i need an oscillator? And a sort of off topic question. Say u have a step down transformer 240v down to 12, can that be used in reverse to make it a step up transformer from 12-240? Thankyou verymuch for your reply.

Hey, what i am trying to achieve is a small spark that will go accross a gap of about 1mm using a 12 volt car battery. I have read how car ignition systems work to make a spark, but without going down to the junkyard and buying an ignition coil, i'd like to make one. Can someone please tell me how i can make an ignition coil and how i would wire it to the battery so that it will produce a high enough voltage to cross the spark gap. Or give me a diagram or equation or something?

When you boil water, if you watch it from the very beginning when you apply the heat, you will notice that some very small bubbles appear at the bottem of the beaker (or whatever your boiling it in). The bubbles slowly grow larger and finally when they are too big they pop up to the surface. When the water is boiling vigorously, there is lots of bubbles all coming up from the bottem very quickly. It may sound like a stupid question but i want to know what those bubles are. I know that water is made of hydrogen and oxygen and i know about electrolysis. Is this process similair to electrolysis, splitting water up into hydrogen and oxygen?

I have a question. Why does this ion engine run on Xenon gas? What makes xenon gas so special? Is it possible to run an ion engine on another type of gas?
