  1. Oh come on Pangloss, I want to add you to the graph. By the way, the red lines are between people who have taken the test twice and achieved different scores (dave and faf thus far).

  7. I have the HeNe. It makes the pretty orange. Lasers equal fun. Now I need optics; For one of my tubes is stray. Lab in disarray.
  8. Yes, they use depleted uranium because it is extremely dense (its used shielding for more radioactive elements). However, uranium is overrated as far as being radioactive goes. I doubt its going to effect anything under a few feet of sand.

    Tesla Coil

What is your max spark length so far? Do you know what the output of your MOT stack is? I'm Assuming you have it arranged for 8kv but have you measured the current output?
  10. If your adept in the dumpster diving arts then you can also find a decent motor and a multimeter. A motor is the same thing as a generator; if you turn it by hand it will output electrical power. With a multimeter you can measure the voltage then the current and assume that the voltage will be constant. Then just multiply the current in amps by the [assumed] constant voltage. Of course the voltage will vary with the current but I don't think your teacher would notice/care. The motor used for turning the table in microwaves works very good for this. You can very easily light a neon build with it. It can also deliver quit a hefty shock into unsuspecting victims. Converting cheeseburgers into electrical power...mmmm.

    Tesla Coil

I think you may have missed one of the forum rules. Anybody who posts at 4hv AND sfh about the same tesla coil must submit at least one(1) MOT to Lance. (It is also quite a nice coil but forum rules must be upheld)
  13. Is the book pretty good? Is it worth reading after I have already seen both movies?

    Wind creating heat

This has nothing to to with moving air. The former is caused by water evaporating and absorbing heat. The latter is caused by the CO2 rapidly expanding and absorbing heat.
  15. Try looking at the meter outside your house that says how much power your'e using, then take a hand crank generator and see how close you can get.
  16. You didnt see any of them die at all. They used it as a fertilizer for their weird red plant type thing.
  17. The microbes killed them. The little bit at the end says something about how as soon as they breathed our air and ate our food they were doomed. The birds showed that the alien shields were only effective against steel. Why was it in french??
  18. Have you even seen a roach? How the hell would you go about pouring black powder on one and proceding to light it. I am not sure you have thought this plan all the way through.

I like pulp too, it's like drinking an orange. I'll second every one.
  21. You make me laugh. A rather strange occurrence happened recently. A few days ago I listed a set of elements for sale on ebay. Two of the samples in the set were a small piece of gallium as well as indium. So a few days ago I line them all up on a piece of paper to photograph them and I put the gallium and indium next to each other. I then leave the elements and upload the picture and forget about the elements until they sell this morning. So I go to package the elements and where the two pieces of indium and gallium were a few days ago is now a single puddle of molten metal. I was quite perplexed by this and concluded that the table must have been bumped making the solid gallium and indium touch which created an alloy that is liquid at room temperature. The molten alloy then speeded the mixture of the metals. Yes I realize its a bit sketchy; any other ideas?
  22. Blue. I thought it was gallium arsenide though.
  23. Phi only tells half truths. He emailed ME with a request for the pictures of me in women's underwear prancing around a tesla coil. What can I say; he offered money.
