What's wrong with political ideas? I personally like them, they've worked pretty well, I even have a few favorites: freedom of speech, freedom of thought, freedom of the press, and other stuff like that. Granted three things (1) businesses want money; (2) businesses use less money if they can do more work with less employees, and (3) it is true that we can make a "plethora" of goods with little human labor, then why hasn't anyone started using technology in this way? Either everyone in the world is stupid , or #3 is simply not true. People get what they need and they don't have to work if they don't want to? You think that pressures from society will make them work? Bull, if this system was up and I knew I would gain nothing by working that I wasn't already getting I'd read and watch TV all day. They have to make people work and control their lives, this is called totalitarianism. Who decides technical issues? Some kind of technological aristocracy. How is that? How is it not a philosophy?

Senate FINALLY Passes Anti-Lynching Legislation
-Demosthenes- replied to budullewraagh's topic in Politics
Okay, that's what I thought the resolution was. So anyway, it is your point that the senate is made up of different people now and is different than the one that existed when the lynchings took place, so they cannont apologize because they are not the same senate, they didn't do anything wrong, right? It seems that they could express their sympathies and apologize that this happened even if they weren't responsible, couldn't they? I'm not saying that it actually does anything for anyone, but couldn't they experess how bad they feel? -

They are apologizing for certain events. You can't apologize for an event, "Dude, I'm sorry that happened to you." Although nice, I still hold that it accomplishes nothing. -

I have to disagree. It's fine for someone to apologize. All I was saying is that I am disapointed that no one did anything at the time, and apologizing doesn't really help. Just because it doesn't help doesn't mean it's not ok, I think it was even good to apoligize. Apologizing is almost like saying "oops, we see now that we could have help" and seems like an admittance of failure (probably why some opposed it). -

Doesn't look like it was banning lynchings, looks like an apology to me. -
oooo...maybe we should all take a break.

As have I, but I can understand the situation.

I meant that there were other things involved, the sunlight doesn't run the plant alone, there is stuff in between. -
They evolved from reptiles, but they are warm blooded, they are a classification of there own: Birds.

This is basically the only part that was really "copied" from the Magna Carta. There weren't really any other ideas taken from the Magna Carta. More ideas came from you British Bill of Rights (1689).
-
ATM, the bill of rights is all that is similar to the Magna Carta. There is nothing of three branches of government, or a bicameral legilsature. The Constitution outlines a government and guarentees rights (in the Bill of Rights). The government outlined is nothing like what was organized in England at the time, and nothing like what the Magna Carta ever talked about. It is true that the preamble and the bill of rights have many similarities. You keep thinking that I have some warped view of U.S. history, but it seems it's you that has a warped view of English history.

Hey, I saw part of the Greatest American thing on Discovery the other day. http://tv.channel.aol.com/greatestamerican They are voting on the top 25 I think now. I don't know where Madison went! Seriously man, the main author of the Constitution?! Who do you think is the greatest American?

I think that what happened discrimination, linching, and slavery are wrong. I think that a lot of people still carry the guilt of this. Maybe we should, or maybe not. Should we walk towards the future, or try to fix the past? -
Senate FINALLY Passes Anti-Lynching Legislation
-Demosthenes- replied to budullewraagh's topic in Politics
I think that we all agree that these were wrong. There is no need to argue that, what some of are trying to say is that congress didn't pass a fedural law against linching, and now that they pass a "oops, sorry" resolution it doesn't make anyone feel any better. -

-Demosthenes- replied to budullewraagh's topic in Politics
I really don't see why it was legal to do it, I know local juries wouldn't convict them, but why didn't someone do something? Seriously someone should have done something then. An apology is nice, heck I apologize it was so horrible, but it will never replace what was not done when something should have been done. -
Eventually something will happen and things will change other energy forms will be found when we need them. I think that a lot of people are just impatient. If it's not a big enough problem that people are changing, then we don't need to worry about it yet. I'm sorry it's boring to look at life that way, but it is very true.

Yeah, my shuffle will completely format if it is plugged into any other computer except the "home" computer. And it charges in the USB port too, so I can't even charge it in another computer. I've noticed that other mp3 players won'yt let you copy songs back off of it either.

When I first saw the thread I though it was a Anti-Lynching Bill, but it seems a resolution of official apology. Another thing, why wasn't linching covered under murder if the person is killed?
