  1. yeh also the heat has to be equally dispersd , a halgoen bulb would be placed in the main part of the unit at the bottom and would burn the toast at the botton and not cook the top ?
  2. yeh but a lot of heat is required to cook toast but i spose if you coiled the wire a lot maybe that would work ?
  3. where do you get these wires from ? but surely when they are heating they release light energy :S ?
  4. yeh but that hot air would blow out of the toater wouldnt it ? It would need to be a sealed unit otherwise you would have hot air blowing out CHeers
  5. yeh , im asuming the thin wires would burn out once enough power is put through it to toas bread . Therefore you would need a lot of wiring and therefore once it glows it wouldnt really be transparent. So yeh some sort of liquid that can be heated enough , the glass wouldnt need to be thick would be toughend glass and heat resistant on the users side. This would need to be really hot fluid!
  6. well it was for another purpose altogether but then i saw the link for the toaster and fancied one of them myself you cant buy them yet and i probably would rather make my own one anyway !
  7. plus once they heat up to a certian point they will give of enough energy that they will glow
  8. no i did not think they did either . I have been looking into these ultra thin cables on google , can they really be thin enough that they are not visible to the nacked eye ! I will carry on looking see if i can find anything Thanks
  9. Front car windscreens have ultra thin wires in them ? I know back windows do have small cables running throught them.
  10. Hello, OK so do you know were you can buy this micro thin sheets of metal to instert inbetween the glass
  11. Hello, I am wondering if anyone has heard of anything that can be used as a heating element , yet is transparent. Like transparent metal for example ? Glass as we all know is a poor conductor of heat ! But there has to be something else Thanks
  12. i have a good borax recipe ! It seems good but it dries up a bit after a while but im asuming this wnt happen as long as its air tight Its a shame i cant figure out the silicone oil one !
  13. surely its PVA and Borax ? 1 tbspn of borax in water then wmix with a PVA glue and water solution ? 1 part water 1 part PVA Thanks Is there a way of doing it with boric acid?
  14. yeh I was thinking aong those lines aswell , It seems when they describe the story they describe it as him " dropping boric acid into silicone oil and discovering it" This must be a lie surely ? They probably will not let anyone know its trade secrets isnt it Thanks
  15. "An undergraduate chemistry experiment is the production of silly putty; this is done by treating a solution of dimethyldichlorosilane in diethyl ether with water (Warning: the reaction of dimethyldichlorosilane with water is violent and generates hydrochloric acid). After washing the ether solution of the silicone oil with aqueous sodium bicarbonate, the solution is dried before the ether is evaporated off. Powdered boric oxide is added to the oil and then heated to form the Silly Putty. The Silly Putty has boron based crosslinks between the polymer chains. These boron crosslinks can break and form only slowly, hence when the silly putty is hit with a hammer or thrown at the floor it shatters or bounces but when the solid is left for a time in a tray it slowly flows. [citation needed]" Yeh i have taken a look at that , clearly that requires other things appart from Boric Acid Powder and Silicone Oil ?
  16. the silicone oil is pure silicone oil , im also stumped ! i have no idea and like i said before there jsu doesnt seem to be anything about it on the net :s Dnt kno why ! If anyone knos then let me know Thanks !
  17. well i put enough water in to virtually dissolve all of the boric acid. Really i need to find out some quanities i need to use , but i cant seem to find anything online Maybe i need to use a lot of silicone oil or not as much silicone oil ? Don't kno
  18. i just have it a go mixing the boric acid powder with water and still no luck ! Im a bit stuck and i cant find anywhere on the net with recipes for silly putty using silicone oil ! Thnks
  19. ye i am using boric acid also i will try your idea of mixing the boric acid with water. Ill do 1 part boric acid 1 part water ? Thanks
  20. hi, does anyone have any ideas ? any help would be great Thanks
  21. Hello, I have finally got hold of some silicone oil and some boric acid powder. I was hoping when i mixed the 2 together i would get a reaction which made silly putty Well it didnt happen , i also tried stiring it over a steady heat but not luck ! I am using 500cst silicone oil and just normal boric acid powder. Could anyone give me some advice or direct me on wereever i am going wrong ? Thanks !
  22. ok then well i will use the same amount of coke. I think coke has 1. summin % so i will use about 2% or 3% . Also tin foil is just pure aluminium isn’t it . I have been looking on the ingredients for coke and i cant see anything else inthe list that would have much of a efffect unless its acting as a catalyst or summin
  23. yeh but once its diluted i shouldnt need the gloves really should i :S ? Cos i aint got ne lol
  24. well i got quite a large bit of chrome that i really need to polish up and i dnt want to spend too much money. So im going to buy some PHOSPHORIC ACID 75% , mix with some water . Could you think of anything i could thicken this with so its easier to apply to the chrome ? Then ill scrub with some tin foil ! Thnx:D
  25. so could just like be the acid with the correct abrasion gained from the foil doing the trick
